Cupcakes and Cashmere

Le Stripe

February 5th, 2009

Ever since I read about how to dress like a French woman on Joanna’s blog, I’ve been accumulating striped shirts like it’s nobody’s business.  The nautical vibe of stripes transports me to a warmer frame of mind instantaneously, which is perfect since it’s supposed to rain for the next four days straight.  I’m already envisioning lots of movies, board games and take-out this weekend.

Where are you, and why is it warm enough to be wearing a skirt?! So jealous!

This outfit is amazing. I actually just bought a headband like that and can’t for the life of me figure out how to get it to stay like that on my head without my hair seriously poofing up on all sides! Any suggestions?

This look is absolute perfection…and the little lady-like bag is such a nice touch. I am also a stripe-fanatic. It just always feels so fresh and put-together, even if you are disheveled!

    I love this outfit.

The skirt is to die for and I adore those sandals! Great job.

I stare blankley at my closet full of stripes that I have accumulated over the years trying to figure out how to French-ify the pieces I already own. [I think I need a skirt like this].

Fabulous, fabulous look. I help people ‘manage wardrobes’ and I try to teach people to love stripes. It’s hard for some. But, your pics are a perfect example of why they SHOULD! The navy + yellow is so great.

    Åh I love the headband!

I have this H&M tee and I wear it all the time with skirts just like you have here… It quickly makes a look so french chic!

You are a pretty girl but s’il vous plait, c’est PAS magnifique. Lose the headband (its tacky), bag, watch and do something about the hair. This looks like you are trying to hard.

I love stripes!! H&M has really been a great spot. Though even Target has a few looks I love. But I am more obsessed with the purse. Where did you find it??

Lovely look, nautical… oui, French … non :)

I guess I’m the only one who isn’t enamoured with this look – for the life of me I just can’t see a french woman in this outfit, as it strikes me as too ‘cutesy’, and lacks a certain elegance. ‘Cute’ is the last word I think any of us would use to describe what a french woman looks like. The headband reminds me of Olivia Newton-John in Xanadu – in a bad way. I must say I agree with the comment ‘from france’ . . .

ohh, stripped shirts are fabulous and indeed so French:) I love the way how you combine it with this white skirt and the headband!xx

maybe los angeles, mais french…pas du tout. stripes, when the sun shines but headband…
i’ve not seen a headband here in paris. heuresement.
en plus, french women carry rather large bags.
    par contre, t’es mignonne.
    allez, ciao.

  • http://www.google.com I’m not French

I feel as though some readers are taking your homage (see, I speak French as well) too literally. I mean, it’s not like you’re wearing a beret, snacking on a baguette and chain smoking. That would be horribly cliche and stereotypical. I know the French are rightfully proud of their culture and style, but I think Emily knows she’s not French, which you can tell by her shaved legs.
