Late Night Gelato

gelato1.jpg

There’s no neighborhood bar where I live, but what we lack in cheap drinks and dirty floors, we make up for with excellent gelato.  Al Gelato is home to some of the best desserts L.A. has to offer including gargantuan pies, Italian cookies and authentic gelato.  Served in a simple metal bowl (complete with a little doily), I always leave questioning why I don’t own an entire set of ice cream dishes at home.

I went also yesterday eve for a really good gelato, but here in Milan, where I visit my boyfriend. We usually go this place called “Crazy Ice” because there you can find completely stupid tastes like basilica, beer, tomato to laugh about and amazingly good tastes to enjoy :)

Chocolate ice cream is my ultimate weakness.

8 abbiebabble { 10.02.09 at 3:58 am }

9 Couture Cookie { 10.02.09 at 4:16 am }

I was like, oh my god, I could never eat that myself… then I saw the two spoons! We have an excellent sundae spot around the corner here as well, although I usually prefer going out for vino instead.

13 Sal { 10.02.09 at 6:01 am }

I would be TWICE my current size if such a place were within walking distance of my house. Yum.

14 Vivian { 10.02.09 at 6:05 am }

Emily, you always manage to make me crave all kinds of foods, even at 7am. Yum.

19 Annie Empiric { 10.02.09 at 6:59 am }

We took a post dinner outing there ourselves this week. A fave. Delish! (Right now I’m hooked on a raspberry and chocolate sorbet situation. mmmm)

20 Kwil { 10.02.09 at 7:04 am }

That looks heavenly… !

21 Rebekah Coleman-Brahler { 10.02.09 at 7:17 am }

Oh boy! Gelato is my weakness, too. I recently had an ice cream sandwich made with anise pizzelles (each with a generous schmear of Nutella!) and strawberry gelato. Hands down one of the best desserts I’ve ever eaten. I’m craving it all the time now!

22 Amanda Nicole { 10.02.09 at 7:36 am }

That looks sooo good. There’s a great gelato place near my apartment as well, and I love it :)

23 Jacqueline { 10.02.09 at 7:38 am }

I’ve always wanted a complete set of ice cream dishes myself. They’re just so soda fountain inspired and adorable. :)

25 cathi { 10.02.09 at 7:43 am }

I am going to have to try that out this weekend, that looks fabulous! thanks for sharing!!

26 Kristin { 10.02.09 at 7:49 am }

The little doily is such a cute little addition to the ice cream. I think that is super cute. We have some places like that here in Florida, but nothing extra special from them.

27 Lexie { 10.02.09 at 8:21 am }

I think maybe just one or two ice cream cup/saucers would work? I agree though, it does add charm to the already delicious gelato!

28 Jessica (Brown Eyed Aesthetic) { 10.02.09 at 8:47 am }

I just had a banana split yesterday! With pumpkin cheesecake, praline pecan, and NY cheesecake–yum. And yes, sundae dishes at home make dessert taste that much better.

29 cupcake.trash { 10.02.09 at 8:49 am }

your top has great sleeves. and your dessert looks nummy!

34 Rachel (Heart of Light) { 10.02.09 at 11:10 am }

45 The Lil Bee { 10.02.09 at 6:41 pm }

Such a pretty presentation! I cannot see gelato without automatically reminiscing about Italy, where we had gelato at least once a day, if not twice. It’s amazing how you come back from Italy without gaining an ounce (in fact, we lost weight!)… somehow that doesn’t quite translate with the gelato here!

46 fashionblogger { 10.03.09 at 2:45 am }

Life in LA must be amazing then. One of the things I love about Italy is that you can stroll through town at midnight and it’ll be full of people eating ice-cream, chatting or just relaxing after a hot day. And it’s another windy and rainy day in England…

47 rachel { 10.03.09 at 3:11 am }

i love the retro feel of the place…the gelato looks so insanely good!

48 Beata Primana { 10.03.09 at 4:17 am }

59 Katie { 10.04.09 at 12:04 pm }

That does look gorgeous, but I have a question, what is gelato?! Is it just American ice cream? Please excuse me and my British confusion…

60 Mod Bohemian { 10.04.09 at 5:29 pm }

oh that looks so good!!! Our favorite neighborhood place is a little turkish cafe that serves homemade baklava and turkish coffee.

61 Chloe { 10.04.09 at 5:53 pm }

Wow, i have to go find this place now…have you ever tried Bulgarini’s gelato in N. Pasadena? The flavors are so fresh and delightful. The guy is from Rome and makes authentic tasting gelato!
