Irresistible Movies

March 6th, 2013

irresistible movies

Last night I settled in to start a new TV series (House of Cards) that all of my friends have been raving about. But after realizing that Garden State was also on, I ditched my initial plans and watched the last 47 minutes of the movie. It reminded me of a tweet that Kelly wrote last week – about those movies to which you can’t say no. No matter how many times you’ve seen them (or in the case of Garden State, actually own), you simply can’t resist the urge to watch them when on TV. I had so much fun thinking about her question that I wanted to pose the same one here:

Which movies make your list?

Here are mine, in no particular order:

1. Love Actually
2. The Departed
3. Good Will Hunting
4. I Love You, Man
5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
6. La Bamba
7. When Harry Met Sally
8. Jaws
9. Dumb and Dumber
10. Romeo and Juliet

yes to the first three (good will hunting is my number one, forever). and so refreshing to see another lady with the departed on her list. goodness that movie is good. i’d also have to include old school, steel magnolias and the godfather.

What a great question! I was pleasantly surprised to find The Departed and Forgetting Sarah Marshall on your list. Embarrassingly enough, FSM is my favorite movie of all time. I would also add Shakespeare in Love, The Devil Wears Prada and It’s Complicated.

I’m a little confused as to why some of my comments were “awaiting approval” and then never showed up in the previous post. Ah well.

Anywho. Any comedy from the 80s for me, really. And Election. Tracy Flick was my onscreen mentor for a while.

My daughter ust turned one and is starting to get into movies, just a little, so I find myself becoming re-obsessed with anything Disney. Particularly Disney princesses. I mean, not that I ever didn’t love them, but at least I have a good excuse for singing those songs all day long now. ;)

  • Atalie Simpson

    Obsessed with your list!!!
Here are mine. Super random mix of movies but they are my absolute favorites.
Also I LOVED house of cards. Sucks for HBO not picking it up before netflix! It was very addicting, and I can’t wait till the next season. We somehow managed to make the series last for 2 weeks, which was a miracle in my house. You should try out downton abbey too! start season one and watch the first three episodes before you decide you don’t like it. It gets so good after episode three!

    1) Bridesmaids
    2) Love Actually
    3) When Harry Met Sally
    4) The Holiday
    5) UP
    6) I Love You, Man

Before I answer this, I think it’s awesome that Garden State is on your list being that it’s obviously SUCH an amazing movie dealing with life, loss, love, etc, but the supporting actor is, well, Jerz. And I’m not sure how much time you’ve spent there, but Zach Braff captures it so well, it’s scary.

Anyway, in addition to some of yours, here are mine:

    Good Will Hunting
    Lost in Translation
    Love Actually
    Pretty Woman
    The Big Chill
    Meet Joe Black

I don’t know why but the ONE movie that I can watch and never get tired of is: The Holiday….particularly in the winter time. I love the fashion, characters, actors who play them and the soundtrack is so dreamy (ahem, and Jude Law).

P.S. Pretty Women, Steel Magnolias, Pride and Prejudice are all high on my list of movies I can’t say “no” to.
