I Left My Heart In San Francisco
January 7th, 2010
It’s been one week since we returned from our trip to San Francisco and I still haven’t quite adjusted to life in L.A. It’s hard to complain when it’s 75° and sunny, but there’s something to be said about the charm of a smaller city. I loved ducking into quaint boutiques and cozy bakeries that lined the streets of San Francisco and the cohesiveness of all the separate neighborhoods. Here are a few of the photographs that I keep pulling up as a reminder of our lovely time spent up north.
A bakery that had warm baguettes and an impressive selection of fresh pastries.
Sweet, colored lanterns that hung from the trees.
A candy store in Hayes Valley that served cupcakes that were almost too pretty to eat.
You certainly can’t beat the fresh ingredients at China Town.

Even though I had to go to San Francisco for work, it was a week in pure heaven. I can’t wait to go back.
those cupcakes look so picture ready
I LOVE San Francisco! I love visiting, it’s so beautiful and the city is amazing. I need to plan a trip back there soon. That’s the perk of living in Southern California.
Your pictures look great!
I’m a San Fran native and love how you caught the essence of the city in those snapshots. Now off to find those cupcakes…
I grew up in the Bay Area, too and try to get back whenever I can. I do love me some LA, though! And we’re so close…
Omigosh, i blogged about san fran in november after my trip and I felt the same way, I was sooo sad to leave….i’ve never fallen so in love with a city. Here are some of my pics from the trip

You were lucky enough to grow up there. I miss it every day, since I moved away so young!

I live in SF where is this bakery?La Boulange? I may have to head over there on my lunch hour and snag one…great way to capture the beauty of this city. I must admit that although I live in SF I am so a SoCal girl missing that warm weather!! Oh and whenever you come back please hit up my favorite restaurant in the city…Burma Superstar!!
I heart Union street! I was up there one year on Valentine’s day and they had red balloons tied to every parking meter for about three blocks – too cute.
San Fran is the best place ever, in the whole USA.
I can guarantee once (if, once, whatever
my books get published, that’s the first place I am moving to – if I had to leave Vancouver, which on days like today, I think about!
Going there in April too see my favourite band. Very excited
Great pics, I’ve missed reading you.

ok so that cupcake pic just did me in : -/ Why? I don’t like butter cream and that looks like the other icing that I like (the white ones).
Tell me you had one?

For me, this place will always be my favorite place in the world. No matter how much I travel, nowhere is quite as amazing for me. The beauty, the laid back people, the diversity, the walking. I love it!
I love San Francisco. My fav city I’ve ever been too! I lived in Novato for a year and went down to SF as much as possible.
I LOVE SAN FRAN!! great pics.

Greatest city in the USA! Love it here!
Beautiful! My boyfriend and I were there a couple months ago and I loved it. It’s hard NOT to leave a little piece of your heart in such a charming and unique city!
Those cupcakes are unreal! Literally! Amazing!
Love the lanterns & will forever love the small town feel with cozy bakeries and trendy boutiques!!
Those cupcakes are too cute to eat! I love the white ones with the red topping. They look almost fake they are so perfect.
Those cupcakes truly are too pretty to eat!!
Could that be La Boulange bakery? I could sit in there all day..and that candy store is Miette! They have the BESTEST hazelnut macarons there! Mmm.
Hi Emily,
I am from Brazil and I spent 40 days in San Francisco last year…I love my country but San Francisco made me change my idea about living here for the rest of my life…I could spend all the days of my life there…it’s more than amazing, cozy and charming.
Cheers,
Candi
Those cupcakes are so sweet. We’re obsessed with cupcakes in Georgetown. I’ve never been to San Francisco but hope to plan a trip there soon. Your pics make me want to visit even more!
Some day I will make it to San Fran! In the meantime, I’ll live vicariously through your photos.
Those cupcakes look delish! I’ve got to devote more time to eating cupcakes.
I love SF and can definitely relate to not quite being able to adjust back to LA after a visit with my family, it always takes about a month to get back into the groove.

I have such a love/hate relationship w/SF. Hard to not love, but when I was there for 2 months working it POURED rain every day! And it was like hurricane rain, I went through tons of umbrellas.
I could definitely go for one of those croissants right about now…
SF has the best neighborhood restaurants and food anywhere in the US hands down… that’s from a foodie that lived there for over a decade and now lives in NY!
what you’re saying is exactly how I feel whenever I leave Chicago. i love your photographs, it’s great to see your blog featuring photos of everyday things in such a lovely way.
Ohmigod those cupcakes look AMAZING!! I can only imagine how good they would taste! Not helping my give up crap resolution for 2010!
Beautiful pictures. The baked goods look delicious!
Ahhhh, those CUPCAKES! they look incredible…. *sigh*

Great photos! You captured my City well. I’m glad you were able to explore and not limit yourself to the more touristy spots.
My husband and I lived in the Bay Area for about 5 months…we had to return to the midwest because he got a promotion (which is amazing, and I’m grateful!). We’ve been back in Indiana since August, and we’re closer to family now, but I have to admit that I’ve literally SHED TEARS over how much I miss SF…it’s my favorite city in the world! Can’t wait to get back for a vacation…a large chunk of my heart is definitely still there…and always will be!
Those looks yummy
Such lovely images. I adore California- spent some time there this summer and fell head over heels. I LOVE LA, but will definitely make some time of SF on my next visit.
