How To: Messy Bun

March 3rd, 2010

I’ve been wearing my hair in some sort of messy updo for most of my life.  While it’s certainly a simple way to battle a bad hair day, I’ve surprisingly received numerous requests to see just how it’s done.   It helps to have hair that hasn’t been washed for at least a day and the best thing is that it doesn’t have to look too perfect.

  1. WOW! this is a great look , very cute to wear out

  2. How’s your hair cut???? I’m just dying to know, seriously. I’m kinda in a constant fight with my hair, since i cut bangs ad dyed it. Now I’ve cut it shorter to eliminate de damaged tips and I’m waiting for it to grow, so I can finally find some peace with my head. So, it would be really helpful if you told me.
    Thanks a lot, you’re a such a princess!!!
    kisses

  3. it’s really fantastic, love it!

  4. I LOVE the messy bun! I’m 43 and have had long hair ‘most’ of my life but probably had medium long layers most of the time. For the past couple of yrs I’ve let it be longer than ever before and can’t believe the complements I’ve started receiving since I’ve started using my flat iron to smooth and straighten all my frizz and waves. I am finding it is easier to look ‘fashionable’ in almost anything I wear now! Who knew??? Anyway, the only drawback is that my buns and pony tails are a bit more challenging now with all this extra length – my messy buns are not as easy to play with – I used to have shorter strands to make stick up as I pulled them out of the bun, now they all want to drag down so low and just pull the bun down to my neck, giving me more of an ‘old fashioned’ look from the front (not good at my age). I will try your method. My method was more of a twist up in the back and hold in place with a banana clip (which isn’t good for blogging because I like to lean my head back on my pillow) – so lately I twist it up and clip it in place with a flat barrette and let the rest of the hair flop over.

I just found your blog through Beso – Elaine sent me there. I’m now following (or subscribing I guess it is when you’re not with blogger). I am going to enjoy digging deeper into your tips as I spent way too much time working on my interior design blog (website) and my husband says I need to have another interest other than home decor, gardening and home improvement!
