Homemade Twix Bars

November 3rd, 2010

One of the main, if not most obvious, reasons why I love Halloween is the influx of candy.  For the month of October, everywhere you go there are bowls filled with sugary treats that serve as a constant reminder of my favorite holiday.   I had a Twix for the first time in what must have been years and to my surprise, I was really disappointed.  I found the chocolate to be bland and the caramel mediocre, so I decided to make a batch myself (recipe here).  It was almost like making three desserts in one (between the shortbread, the caramel and the chocolate), but the killer combination proved to be just as good as I had hoped.

I am so glad I’m not alone. I had stayed away from candy bars for so long due to trying to workout/lose weight/get healthy that when I finally ate some for the holiday (read: whole bad of fun sized snickers – for shame) I was truly not as thrilled as I thought I would be. This would be a fun treat and not one I’d make that often. Thank you for sharing! ox

Great idea! I was thinking about if there were recipes for homemade Twix when I was eating a few of the real thing around Halloween. Love seeing homemade recipes for stuff you can buy from the store!

  • emily

don’t mean to be a bummer here, but this recipe, like all her others, are not orginal. Emily always links to other websites, and is merely baking/cooking up something based on someone else’s recipe. It would be less confusing, and more honest, if she said something like, “I got this recipe off of xxx website and baked it up myself, and it was so yummy,” instead of implying that the recipes are her own creation. Just a thought.

I tried the recipe out today, and it just went totally wrong. Have been waiting for 3 hours now and the caramel is still liquid :/ Don’t know what went wrong. Do you know what could cause this?

That’s just to bad. It looked soooo goooood.. And the caramel tastes good.

This is such a great idea! Twix are my boyfriend’s favorite candy, so I’ll have to try the homemade version for him.

  • http://www.styleactivist.blogspot.com Erika

This looks deeeeelish. I have never been a big fan of Twix, just because like you said, they seem to taste bland. But these seriously look decadent. I love anything homemade :)
