Homemade Soft Pretzels
One of the main reasons that I go to baseball games is for the food. Overpriced beer in plastic cups, greasy hot dogs and cotton candy make up for any shortcomings in a long, drawn-out game. My favorite snack is a soft pretzel, served hot and smothered in mustard. Since Dodger Stadium is too far of a drive for a fancy piece of bread, I decided to make my own yesterday (using this recipe) on what was a particularly gray, dreary afternoon. The process took far more time than I expected, but they were entirely worth the wait (especially the few that I decided to make with cinnamon and sugar).

Oh wow, those look pretty intense to make! But judging from the photos, they turned out very delicious-looking. You reminded me that I haven’t had a pretzel in SO LONG.
The photos look great, perhaps rather difficult to make for me- an absolute klutz in the kitchen.
Delicious though.

You’re really an inspiration with all this cooking. Perhaps one day I’ll try out a recipe. I’m afraid I might hurt myself in the kitchen though!

Hey, if you have to deal with yeast dough, you might as well end up with adorable, salty, pull-apart pretzels, right? I’ve made loaves of bread before, but these sound way more fun.
It looks delicious!

oh boy, those look delicious! i remember making big soft pretzels once when i was a kid, and i think it’s time to try it again! every time i pass one of those auntie anne’s pretzel stands at the mall, i get THE most intense craving for a soft pretzel. surely they’re healthier when you make them at home, right?

Now THIS I’ve got to try. I adore soft pretzels!
i love soft pretzels too–i generally get them at the mall and dip ‘em in cheese sauce!!!
http://www.cupcakesomg.blogspot.com
These look scrumptious! You get huge props from me Emily! I was a big homemade bread baker (before toddler:) and I know how tedious pretzels can be with the boiling water added to the process. I’ve ended up with hard as a rock little knots on several occassions! But it’s so worth it when they come out soft and pretty~like these:) I just may dust off my baking books~Thanks for the inspiration!

Yum yum yum! I made a calorie filled mushroom sandwich yesterday and this looks like the perfect dessert!
Your photos look like they are straight out of a magazine. You make baking seem so romantic. xo.
Pretzels remind me of my trips I make to the mall. Yours look quite delicious and make me wish I could reach through my monitor and eat one!
You’re honestly the cutest thing ever. I am so not into baseball either (football is my sport, thank you), but enjoy going for the experience, and that includes the food and beer. Please tell me you had a soft pretzel when you were in New York?! If not, I’m going to have to find a way to send you one!
These loo delicious!!! Definately going to try this!
These remind me of the 8th grade when Aunty Anne’s was the only thing in our mall food court! lol – I love soft pretzels! Thanks for reminding me that i NEED one

Looks so good, I haven’t had a soft pretzel in so long. You should seriously look into publishing a recipe book if you haven’t already, it would be the most fashionable cook book kicking around.

wow these are so picture perfect! look straight out of a magazine! yum, will have to try this one day! maybe work them into our catering menu for the wedding next year they seem to fit in with the theme!

totally adorable! how fun to have a homemade pretzel-you don’t see those very often!

That’s so cool! I want to try making my own pretzels.

Beautiful. And such pretty pictures, even of the dough!
PS digging the dark nail polish. My favorite shade in the whole world is Siberian Nights by OPI, which is a deep onyx-purple. But I read in Cosmo that dark (well, black, but Siberian Nights is pretty dark) polish during the summer looks “dirty, and not in a good way.” Ugh! Doesn’t mean I’ll stop wearing it!
I love soft pretzels so I am definitely going to try this recipe out!
http://www.fashionsnag.com
MMMmmmm those look delicious! I can’t wait til I have a kitchen of my own and can make fun things like these!
Looks amazing. I want to know who ends up eating all these yummy foods you make???
Mmm…my mouth is watering just looking at this! Btw, have you tried the almond crunch flavor at Wetzel Pretzel? It’s my favorite:P
You must be reading the Whatever Martha blog!

Mmm! Delicious! I *heart* soft pretzels but never thought of making my own! Will have to try that when I get some down time. I bet they taste 100x’s better than the Dodger stadium ones!

ooo – I am a soft pretzel addict. I really love them, the salty goodness dunked in mustard or cream cheese. I’ve got the craving now, lol.
I have to agree with you. I’m not a huge baseball fan at ALL, but when my Company offers me their seats I will certainly go and have a few beers and enjoy the stadium food and friends.

This is a great snack! I also love soft prezels…and though they took a long time to make I bet it was so rewarding
Oh my god, you are killing me! Soft pretzels are my favorite game food as well. Although I definitely eat the dodger dogs, as suspect as they might be. And yay for you braving the yeasted bread dough!
I have a friend who LOVES soft pretzels. I’m sending this to her in because they look delish and in hopes that she’ll make them and share (i’m not much of a cook myself)!!
Those pretzels look so tasty, I’m going to have to try out that recipe. Is there anything special needed (butter?) for the cinnamon and sugar pretzels? I’m not a mustard fan.
I’m curious to see if these will be better than NYC street pretzels… those have always been my favorite!

These look AMAZING. Will definitely be trying this recipe out!xx
So I made these pretzels tonight and they turned out great except for one thing…the bottoms taste very baking soda-ish. Did yours? Could you suggest something that would fix that? But otherwise they were awesome! Thanks for the recipe!
These look too delectable for words. Soft pretzels are a favorite treat of mine; I can’t wait to make these! On another note, I finally tried making your Fleur de Sel Caramels and, after three attempts, they turned out perfectly!
