Homemade Shamrock Shake

March 12th, 2013

shamrock shake
The Shamrock Shake from McDonald’s is my favorite St. Patrick’s Day drink (a pint of Guinness is a close second). But since I avoid eating at fast food chains, I haven’t been able to enjoy the March delicacy for a while, so I decided to make it at home. A vanilla milkshake is hard to improve upon (I’ve only done it once before), but with high quality ice cream plus mint extract and a dash of bitters – it takes it to an entirely different level. Plus, there’s something fun/dangerous about knowing that I can make it any time of the year.

I haven’t eaten fast food in 5 years (except for my trip to LA when I tried In-N-Out Burger for the first time!). Thanks for posting a probably much better tasting alternative! Happy St. Patty’s Day!

I never would have thought to put Bitters in a milkshake! This is way more decadent and flavourful than the chemical laden fast food version we all hate to admit that we love. Yum! Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

I’m glad you decided to opt out of the McDonald’s version of the Shamrock Shake! It’s so bad for you:
