Home Of My Own
January 29th, 2009
I recently visited the new home of some friends and it inspired me to think about the things that I would include once I purchase my own place. After I moved in with my boyfriend, I had to taper my ultra-feminine taste a bit, but (I hope) the spaciousness of a house will allow for more leniency on his part. Below are just some of the ideas that I’ll keep locked away we move:
A red lamp adds a splash of color to a neutral office.
A french envelope tray on a bedside table is a perfect place to store jewelry.
A canopy bed made of minimalist metal keeps it from looking too princess-y.
I’d place a mirror atop this antique-inspired desk for an organized place to apply make-up.
Regardless of whether this chair looks like the one Aiden made for Carrie *sigh,* it has all the right proportions for curling up with a cup of hot chocolate and a knit throw.
For an organized list of interior decorating sites, check out Domino’s favorite sources here before it’s gone forever.

i like so much this blog, so i add you to my favourite
see ya
hi there-the french envelope tray is simply gorgeous!
Oh how beautiful would a canopy bed be? I have always dreamed of one myself. I like your choices, very chic. xx
That chair looks oh so amazing and I adore the red lamp!
i love that chair. and i know i know, we’re in a little studio here in nyc and while it really feels like home and we love it, i cannot wait to have a bigger more spacious place to decorate the way i’ve always dreamed of decorating!!
xo
OOh absolutely LOVE the red lamp – red always adds a quirky accent to anything. And whilst the chair is very aiden and carrie I LOVE IT! It looks like it wants to hug you and keep you warm and cuddly
oh, the Aidan chair! lovely.
the chaiiiiiiiiiiiiiir..its perfect to chillax and read a good book
*gasp* that desk! oh my lord… love love love it. seriously.
You’ve picked the perfect canopy bed, I think. All the romance, none of the frill!
Lovely pics! That bed really is perfect—canopy for you, edgy metal for him! And I can just see you primping at that lovely table
But I refuse to believe the Domino news. Refuse. If we don’t say it out loud, surely it can’t be true, right? Right?!
Oooh, I really like the French envelope tray– how unique!
I’m buying that tray! I just moved out on my own after several years of living with a man. I’m so excited to be as girly as I want!
I’ve been in love with that iron canopy bed for so long now – it really is a magical piece!
i love that chair, too. and i adore carrie’s coffee table – crate & barrel makes one called the “bradshaw” that is very similar. i can’t wait to have my own place, with no roommate, that i can decorate however i want!
Red lamp shades cast the most flattering light!
And I looooove that canopy bed, E!
xoxox,

I am in the middle of planning as well
I like your ideas. I have soo many!
I’ve always liked the style of that chair. Check my post today.
hahaha I love Lucky Charms. But my favorite is Smart Start cereal. Evaporated milk is like ‘magic juice’ to me. =]
Decoration is so fun. IKEA is my favorite store for ideas. I love it.
xxxx
I love the fun little red lamp. So simple.
that bed makes me swoon. btw, i would love to trade links.
The chair looks comfortable.
Oh, that lamp and that letter tray are just fantastic! I cannot wait until I have the budget and space to decorate my own home…
that red lamp is so gorgeous, i so want one now after seeing this! and that sofa chair too, looks so comfy!
I want a chair like that too. Sadly, I don’t think another chair would fit in our tiny apartment. Someday.
emily, my mom took the photo of us on the hammock. usually, someone (a friend or family member) is around and is taking pictures. but we’ve also perfected the self timer on the camera (10 second setting) and aren’t shy to set it down and run away and pose when in public! it’s fun.
xxoo
How inspiring! You’re absolutely right about that bed, the fabric casts it in the perfect light.
when i get a house i’ll be emailing you for decorating advice, just so you know
Although they are static objects, the polaroid frame and the toning/hue make these pics EMOTIONAL. lol
fabulous canopy bed.
i am adding u to my links right now:)
I can’t help but totally agree with everything you’ve said.
My boyfriend moved into my teeny tiny apartment because I was having trouble selling it. We’ve been living in 430 sq feet for four months now. I’m not complaining but I definitely had to rethink the way I decorate and the amount of stuff I had.
We are buying a new BIGGER place in a few months and I can’t tell you how excited I am to actually gain a little feminiminty back in my surroundings. Not that I was very frou frou to begin with but it is NICE to have the option.
PS – lucky you get to have a house! I’m trying to make do with an apartment but wow I would go nuts with a house
That French envelope tray is so beautiful-what a great nightstand accent! I can’t wait to have a place of my own to go overboard with decorating
Thank you for including the link to Domino-I’m still not getting over it anytime soon…
I neeeeed that red lamp. It’s terribly cute.
I also know what you mean about tailoring your tastes to not be so feminie. I think my husband dies a little inside each time I bring home something super girly.
I love that red lamp! If it came in turquoise it would be in my room (or at least on my credit card) right now!
Love your choices and I am very glad to have found your blog, xv
there is something so magical about a canopy bed. and that red lamp is so super!
have a great weekend!
xo, kristin
i think i could just have the AIDEN chair all by itself in my house and be perfectlly content. thank you for these ideas!
I used to have a red lamp in my room. then i painted it black.haha
what a sweet little tray. i want.
This is the first time I visit your blog, it’s lovely!
I simply love every piece you chose here. I may have to get that French Envelope tray for just the purpose you describe.
Hi,
Does anyone know what company makes that beautiful French envelope tray? I would like to order some from the maker.
Thanks.
Whoa! That is a nice plan. Hope that chair will look homey as well as simply beautiful.
