Here’s to you, Mrs. Robinson…

I finally got around to buying some cheerful flowers, right before I leave on a business trip to Baltimore (at least I’ll get to bust out my new Alexander McQueen carry-on that’s easily the creepiest luggage I’ve ever seen).  In the meantime, I can’t wait to use our new blanket, during a screening of The Graduate, at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery this Saturday night.  If anyone has ideas for what we should bring for a picnic, I’d love to hear your favorite snacks.

well that is a creepy luggage:) but so unique, so you don’t have any fears that someone will take yours instead of his in the airport:)

Creepy but so unique, it has character. I like it!:)

There’s nothing better than watching an incredibly awkward, young Dustin Hoffman get tangled up with his stunning mother-in-law to be…especially al fresco! I think the evening should be accompanied by some crisp white wine & a fresh baguette with roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella, olive oil & basil…yum! Then a block of dark chocolate!

hi Emily! I love the blog, and this post in particular reminded me of a wonderful trip I took last summer, so I’ve linked to you on my most recent post :) thanks for making me think of it!

7 real style real people { 06.19.09 at 4:51 am }

good wine and cheese is all I’d need (oh and maybe some homemade guacamole or some fresh bread)

8 gina { 06.19.09 at 4:58 am }

oh my that is a scary suitcase!

maybe some yummy homemade cookies for your picnic!?

9 City Girl { 06.19.09 at 4:59 am }

i agree – some cheese and baguette and some fresh fruit – i personally love Cowgirl Creamerys Red Hawk with baguette and a side of crisp apple slices.

10 Vivian { 06.19.09 at 5:20 am }

The Graduate is one of my all-time favourite movies! Enjoy your weekend, and your trip!

11 Susie { 06.19.09 at 5:40 am }

The bag is creepy, but really sort of awesome.

12 boots { 06.19.09 at 5:45 am }

Oh man , i know all the perfect picnic food, defiantly go with some guacamole, and tortilla chips. fresh mozzarella, basil and tomatoes, with some pita bread for sandwiches, Brie, and grapes, maybe frozen grapes ( so good and refreshing) and Sangria. yes Sangria!
personally i like to go out for ice cream after any picnic. its just meant to be.

you can’t beat, a pound of fabulous cheese, a tub of olives, good crusty bread and something cold to go down with it.

14 Air { 06.19.09 at 5:51 am }

luggage IS creepy hahaha but i love it!

15 Life Abroad { 06.19.09 at 5:52 am }

i love that suitcase! i studied anatomy in university, so it’s right up my alley haha! my latest flavor combo that i’m loving is goat cheese, dates, and bacon….

16 Christina { 06.19.09 at 5:53 am }

That’s so weird, I am watching that movie tonight.

17 Sal { 06.19.09 at 5:54 am }

Holy moly! Hope security doesn’t stop you for that carry-on!

18 Aritza, Goddess of .. { 06.19.09 at 6:10 am }

Wow, that really is creepy. Anywho, good cheese, crackers, french baguette bread, bottle of wine, foie gras and you’re good to go ! Have fun !

19 Melissa { 06.19.09 at 6:17 am }

There’s nothing better than a movie under the stars! I always enjoy sushi and champagne…easy and delicious!

20 Thao { 06.19.09 at 6:17 am }

Picnic! I love it. We like to bring cheese, bressola, baguette and cookies. Simple and sweet, right? Have a great time–love the Graduate movie!

21 Jay { 06.19.09 at 6:23 am }

I agree with City Girl about the fresh fruit. If you keep it in the fridge until right before you leave it will be a nice snack to cool you down at the picnic. (It’s pretty warm and humid here right now.) And if you get the chance, you have to walk around the inner harbor. Lots of cute shops and things to see.

22 kim { 06.19.09 at 6:27 am }

As a local to Charm City, I would have to advise spending about 2 minutes in the Inner Harbor. You should definitely check out Hampden, Federal Hill and Canton for some more local flavor. Each of those neighborhoods have some great little boutiques. Also, don’t know how mobile you’ll be, but head north of the Harbor to Mt. Vernon to grab some great food – Brewer’s Art has fantastic beer and the most amazing garlic rosemary french fries. You’ll need a lot of beer to counteract the garlic, but it’s well worth it.

23 Raquel { 06.19.09 at 6:28 am }

Get a french baguette and stuff it with roast beef, arugula, avocado mash (sprinkle a bit of lime on it) with chives in it and season with salt, pepper, oil and vinegar. Simple, light and delicious!

24 Cristina Irene { 06.19.09 at 6:28 am }

hmm..i would take starbucks..and snackies..i would also take choccolate..hmm..i love that movie its awesome!! as for the luggage its unique!! =) and you gave me a great idea to get flowers!! =)

25 Ice cream Truck { 06.19.09 at 6:29 am }

I happened to stubble upon your website via Cup of Jo and then proceeded to spend the next 8+ hours catching up on your blog. Adorable, your blog has quickly made my “must read” blog list of the summer

I would be very grateful for an invitation to the Gilt website, my e-mail address is Erica.pare@yahoo.com. I feel like I’m late catching on to this gem of a site.

Thanks so much,

26 Meream { 06.19.09 at 6:31 am }

Your luggage is scary!
Bread, cheese, grapes, iced tea. :)

27 The Lil Bee { 06.19.09 at 6:40 am }

So fun! I love picnics:) I think Prosecco, strawberries, cheese & crackers, and Mallomars. Yes, the old school cookies.

28 underfunded heiress { 06.19.09 at 6:42 am }

Ooh, this Sat? I may have to go. I’ve been wanting to see a movie there. Almost went last summer when they had the Ramones tribute (my bf is a huge fan) but we ended up not going. Have fun!!

29 erin { 06.19.09 at 6:45 am }

oh! watching movies outside–so fun! yes, i agree, cheese, bread, olives, something bubbly, and something sweet!

30 Amber Eilert { 06.19.09 at 6:51 am }

Creepy carry-on indeed!
We’re big on picnics around here – some favorites:
orzo salad with feta, olives, tomato & cucumber
baguette/cheese/olives/wine/sweets
cold bbq chicken/sesame cabbage salad
mmmm…enjoy the movie!

31 chicfaced { 06.19.09 at 7:03 am }

here are 2 recipes that are quick and summery (and crowd pleasers)
got this from my mom-in-law and it’s called “cowboy caviar”- 1 can corn (or fresh), 1 can black beans, tomato and avacado diced, green onions, cilantro, garlic, s&p, olive oil and red wine vinegar
OR watermelon & tomato salad:
dice watermelon, dice red onion, cut cherry tomatoes in half, a bunch of feta, some fresh mint, olive oil, red wine vinegar, s&p

32 Heidi { 06.19.09 at 7:06 am }

Hi. What me and my boyfriend always take to picnic is:
good red wine, olives, parmesan cheese, baguette and a jar of good pesto – classic. The good thing about the red wine is not having to think about keeping it cold.
Have fun!

33 Slices of Beauty { 06.19.09 at 7:10 am }

Beautifully creepy that is!

34 Maritess { 06.19.09 at 7:18 am }

Oh my gawd I’ve been wanting to watch a movie at the Hollywood Forever Cemetary for like 5 years! Unfortunately I moved from LA to the Bay Area so I don’t get to visit as much, but thank you for reminding me about that! I absolutely love your blog!

35 Alessia { 06.19.09 at 7:28 am }

Cute photos!

I always like to make it easy and buy artesan sandwiches with salame, prosciutto, and provolone cheese from my local cafe. With a cookie or too, of course!

36 Jaime { 06.19.09 at 7:39 am }

cute jellies! where’d you get those?

For your picnic, be sure to pack some wine! :)

37 Nicole Marie { 06.19.09 at 8:03 am }

38 Melissa { 06.19.09 at 8:07 am }

39 alycia { 06.19.09 at 8:22 am }

yeahhhh that’s pretty creepy alright haha

40 Rosemary { 06.19.09 at 8:28 am }

Hooray for your feature on The Supermelon–adorable! For picnic treats, you can’t go wrong swinging by the refrigerated section of Whole Foods. Everything comes in neat little packages perfect for popping into your baskets. Or, pick up some fried chicken from the hot bar. YUM!

41 Kristine { 06.19.09 at 8:49 am }

Sunset had a great spread on picnics last month: http://www.sunset.com/food-wine/kitchen-assistant/italian-picnic-recipes-00400000043104/

44 Cafe Fashionista { 06.19.09 at 9:35 am }

Cupcakes with colorful frosting, of course! Equal parts yummy and adorable! :)

45 The Socialite { 06.19.09 at 10:02 am }

50 Carissa { 06.19.09 at 11:41 am }

loved the supermelon feature! and I agree, that is the creepiest luggage I have ever seen. It’s sure to turn heads!

I’ve never been to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery but a picnic and a movie sounds fabulous! I wish I could go but I already am attending a friend’s birthday party… so I guess another time!

have a good trip!

51 Jessica { 06.19.09 at 11:42 am }

It isn’t a trip to Baltimore unless you drink a Natty Boh!! (National Bohemian beer)

The gal that told you to hit up Brewers Art for the fries is a smart gal — just make sure you order a Resurrection & a cheeseburger to go with them!

Other places to consider seeing: American Visionary Arts Museum & Fells Point

52 Chelsea { 06.19.09 at 11:50 am }

I’ll be at the screening as well Saturday! It’s going to be our first time.

Holla!
I’m from/live in Baltimore!
If you get around to the outskirts (meaning the Towson or Timonium areas–about 20-30 mins outside of Baltimore) you should check out San Sushi Too/Thai One On, the Kyodai Rotating Sushi Bar (both in Towson), or Andy Nelson’s BBQ (in Timonium) for Absolutely FAB Food!!!

58 MJ { 06.19.09 at 5:07 pm }

I love cemetery screenings!! We always go to Trader Joe’s and get wine, cheese, fruit, crackers, bread and spreads. Love it!! Enjoy!!

59 Celia { 06.19.09 at 5:15 pm }

Congrats on the Real Style interview! I agree 100% with your picks for 5 people to have dinner with – well done.

60 Jessica { 06.19.09 at 10:35 pm }

I love your carry-on, how fun. Also, reading all the suggestions for your picnic made me hungry! They all sounded great so I’m sure you have some lovely ideas. Ooh and I have never been to GILT but saw that you must be invited. Would you mind helping me out and I would be most grateful. :) Your posts are always so well done too–fewer words than most (but chosen wisely) and sweet photography.

61 Dog-Eared { 06.19.09 at 10:38 pm }

Oh, Emily, I found your interview amazing, so candid and lively, as you are……I went to high school in Baltimore….it’s become such a fascinating place…safe travel….am intrigued by your luggage!!! Oh, for your picnic, Trader Joe’s eggless egg salad or the egg white one with cherry tomatoes and the rosemary flavored crackle bread and some Asahi beer or Acacia pinot noir wine…..yum, yum

63 pearls and green tea { 06.20.09 at 8:38 am }

64 Helen { 06.20.09 at 2:40 pm }

What a cool piece of luggage. You will not lose that on the baggage carousel … !

I lived in Baltimore for six years before moving to Virginia! I hope you have a good stay, and enjoy the local flavor (Old Bay on fries, with a little vinegar is delish) — literally and figuratively.

P.S. I’m ashamed to admit this, but I’ve never seen The Graduate. I know, I need to remedy that right away.

65 Jheanell { 06.20.09 at 6:46 pm }

oh my! that McQueen luggage is to die to for – I love it! It’s fabulous! I’m sure you’ll have a few heads turning :)
