Heavy Metal
Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent Dress, Martin + Osa Necklaces, Marc Jacobs Bag, Zara Wedges
If I wasn’t concerned about repeating myself incessantly, I’d have an entire closet filled with sheer, frilly dresses. They’re deceptively polished since they require little more effort than slipping one over your head and running out the door. I’ve had this one for a while and I like toughening it up with drapey metallic jewelry and some chunky platforms.

I love this dress, it’s such a gorgeous colour on you
I am fan of frilly dress, just wonder whether a straw fedora hat (i.e. Gucci Straw fedora) would go with it?

Such great inspiration, especially since I just bought a red frilly dress myself!
Agreed with Maxine! You’re looks always make me want to try mixing different colors and textures that I would normally be to nervous to pair together.

Red is one of my favorite colors!
I love this color on you. Really there is just not enough red in my closet!

Gorgeous! You look lovely and that sunshine in your photos is perfect.

I absolutely love this! I remember that dress from another post, and I had major dress envy, just so pretty! Love how you’ve styled it as well!
Love that color! The belt does add a nice touch.
That color looks great on you. Looks like a perfect sunny day!
Pretty red!
That color is beautiful on you and I love the bib necklace. Is the belt part of the dress? This is my favorite kind of look. I’m also loving lots of chunky bracelets paired with a simple dress. It’s working for me, as is lots of eye makeup, since both detract from the post-baby belly I’m still rocking:)
I love your shoes!!

I just bought those Zara wedges!! I love them!
I love how you’ve paired a simple dress with such bold accessories. Love this look on you!

Read every day; never commented before. Love this look especially.
that dress is the perfect red! quit making me so jealous all the time!
I HAVE to have those shoes! They look amazing with the dress too. I would never have though to put brown and red together before but you’ve made it look flawless! lovely.
Red is my go to colour!
http://sevendollarpants.wordpress.com/
I love the jewelry with it.
You look fantastic. I have a dress like that and can’t wait to pair it with a metallic belt (once it warms up a bit…) On behalf of all of your NYC readers, I am very jealous of the weather you’re having in LA!

I love the dress and the shoes together…very cute.
Those Zara wedges are fabulous! And that red looks fabulous on you. I wish it was that warm here so I could pull my dresses out of the closet!

I’m loving this color on you. I would also be loving those wedges on me! I love simple dresses you can just throw on, you look so polished without trying very hard. I personally tend to live in dresses when the weather allows!
LOVe that dress!! Fabulous!

I am never as happy as when I can wake up, shower and slip a dress on over my head. Unfortunately, I live in New York and that is only possible for a few months a year.

You pull that color off fabulously! You look so springy and I’m so jealous of your Cali weather…Minnesota is so drab these days, ugh!

I have a necklace (the long knotted one) that looks identical to yours …only I got it at Target about 3 months ago, and it was under $10.
Great pics… Love the shoes!
It´s perfect dress and i love the blog kisses

unoriginal. everyone pairs “tough” jewelry/shoes with a frilly dress. you are not the first one and, therefore, makes this blog BORING.
you look gorgeous! i simply adore those shoes <3
I love absolutely everything about this outfit, especially the bold color of the dress. And of course, you look lovely as always!

I totally agree about just slipping on a simple dress, I love the little effort it takes to look fabulous in minutes!
Isn’t always the “Anonymous” ones who bash. . .IGNORE!
oh, anon, you’re the one who’s unoriginal. emily has never proclaimed herself a great pioneer of fashion, rather her intent is to wear what looks good on her and inspire others to step outside their outfit comfort zones. and she certainly does that very well, no? run along now. you’re boring us all.
The color of that dress is incredible. And those shoes! Amazing!

those wedges are beyond wonderful!
Ooooh! I LOVE this look. So so so pretty!
love the color & the accessories. the shoes are amazing
Just curious and PLEASE do not take offense. I realize your dress is Cynthia Vincent so I know it’s a pricey little number. Why do women pay so much money for something…so…well…simple? I mean do not get me wrong, you look beautiful!, but I bet the dress if probably made of polyester, cotton, rayon??? so you could very easily buy something similar at places like H & M, Forever 21 etc. I only buy designer denin, handbags, gowns and shoes. But that is because you can not get the same quality at places like Forever21, Gap, etc. So are we payings hundreds of dollars for the Tag? really?
That color looks insanely pretty on you! I love it with the turquoise background.
And I think the third photo is the prettiest one of you I’ve seen. It’s stunning.
This must be my favorite non-food post yet!
your shoes are marvelous!!!

you do rock the frilly dresses quite well. something i could never pull off. go you!
I have been coveting, searching and dying to get my hands on those shoes ever since you wore them the first time. I cannot find them anywhere. Hrmph. I love.
What beautiful photographs! I’m desperate to crack out all my pretty frilly dresses – but seeing as I live in Glasgow, Scotland, I’m unlikely to be able to do so anytime soon….
http://thefilmangel.blogspot.com
Loving the look, as usual
I got a dress – same brand – at Barney’s a month ago that’s the same color/style pretty much! I cannot wait to do different things with it! Love the Zara shoes, too! Woo hoo!

The color is particularly gorgeous! So perfect for this weather.
You look bee-u-tiful!

Is there a way we can still order the same type of jewelry that was selling on your Etsy shop? I’ve been looking for rough-cut jewelry for a long time and yours were all amazing but I can’t find anything similar lately!
i’m obsessed with those wedges! i will have to make a quick trip to zara soon and check them out! are they compfy?

I want those shoes!! love it! Love your blog
Love everything about this look, esp. the color of the dress and ruffles on the shoulders.
Andrea, I’m with you on the dress: it’s lovely, but you can get a similar version (from H&M, Forever 21, etc.) for much less. That’s why I made the comment about the necklace: at Martin & Osa, I’m sure it was over $50, but mine (from Target, and almost identical) was under $10.
All that said, I’m not blog bashing here. I love this blog and Emily’s style, but you can use her outfits as INSPIRATION to find the look for less somewhere else.
Love this look! Fabulous dress, fabulous shoes. You kind of look like Lo Bosworth in the pics. (only prettier) xoxo

the easiest way to look gorgeous is to put on a dress. unfortunately most of the time it’s to cold for a dress where i live…
