Golden Slumbers

March 1st, 2012

I’m a firm believer that bedrooms should be simple and serene. Ours doesn’t have a TV (though watching movies in a hotel bed is one of my favorite things ever), the walls are Benjamin Moore’s “Pelican Gray,” our bedding is all white (available here), and we try to keep our bedside tables as uncluttered as possible. But up until recently, the room felt unfinished and cold. I’d been searching for a headboard for ages (I even created a Pinterest board with all of my inspirations) and finally decided on one that felt right. It’s tall, plush, and the subdued yellow is a nice touch of color in an otherwise neutral space. There’s still a lot left to do until the room will feel complete – like tracking down a cozy rug, reupholstering our bench, and finding new bedside tables, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

I agree completely. I have all white bedding, some black and white photos of Paris, small, white nightstands and a very cute (and $10 might I add) chandelier to add a touch of “chic” to it! It’s calming, serene and so…relaxing…

Love Pelican Grey!! Just the right amount of blue and lavender in it – I have painted my living/dining room that color at the beach and used a mulberry as a counterpoint. Love the yellow headboard with it!

That kitten sure is getting big! Haha. Simple is definitely best in the bedroom. You want peace, quiet and a hint of romance…not distractions! :)

I agree — bedrooms that are too busy are just hard to sleep in. Also, your cat is adorable!

Why do you need new bedside tables? The ones you have look gorgeous! I swear by white bed linen and I too refuse to have a TV in the bedroom. Your headboard looks JUST like the one Katie @ Running on Happiness just DIY-ed (runningonhappiness.blogspot.com)!

Great headboard! Yellow & grey combo is so chic & the shades you used are subdued- love it! I’ve had a DIY headboard project on the brain for awhile. You were smart to paint your room a neutral; I went for a light green apple & usually work blues into the bedding, but it’s a limiting wall color. Going to check out Pelican Grey for my bathroom walls!
