Gin is in

August 2nd, 2008

Vodka and soda. Though this notorious drink used to be my standard every time I hit the bars, I’ve officially converted to gin. Not just any gin, but two very special variations that, in retrospect, make vodka taste like rubbing alcohol.

Hendrick’s Gin is small batch gin distilled in Ayrshire, Scotland and is what first convinced me of this spirit’s exceptional depth and flavor. What sets Hendrick’s apart is that during the distillation process, it’s infused with Bulgarian rose and cucumber, which makes for an incredibly crisp and refreshing drink that smells unbelievable.
Leopold’s Gin is a small batch, handmade American gin. Even the bottle of this truly unique gin has a ridiculously clean and almost medical-inspired label, a detail to which I’ve always been drawn. Made with botanicals like hand-zested Florida oranges and California Pummelos, Leopold’s is great for gin and tonics, thanks to the lovely citrus flavor.

So for all of you vodka and soda fans out there, I highly recommend simply giving either of these gins a try and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Cheers!

Love this! Gin & tonic is totally my summer drink! And Hendrick’s is yummy; can’t wait to try the Leopold’s. One warning: don’t drink too much as a potent gin smell will be emanating from your pores the morning after! I learned this a long time ago at church on Sunday morning.

I…I think I’m too young for this post LOL.

I used to read a story about an evil organization whose codenames were all alcohol beverages, and the scariest guy’s name was Gin. I believe the grunty sidekick was vodka. I wonder if the taste had any bearing on their names.

I get the DTs like and an old man if I drink gin and tend to go a little crazy – im mad enough sober to be honest so I stay away from white spirits. Bubbles however are my vice. xf

Vodka and water is definitely my go-to drink. But the other night, I tried a Gin and Tonic for the first time in years. I’d never been too keen on the drink in the past but was pleasantly surprised. I had it with slices of cucumber in it. yummm…
