French Apple Tart

October 15th, 2009

I typically don’t waste my time on desserts that don’t include chocolate, but when I read about this French apple tart, I knew I had to give a try.    I love baking when it’s cold outside and this rustic tart filled my apartment with such a lovely scent that lingered for hours. The crust came out flaky, but not too sweet and was balanced nicely by the apricot rum glaze that I brushed on at the end.  Plus, since it included apples, I deemed it an appropriate replacement for my oatmeal breakfast served with a few slices of sharp cheddar cheese.

  16. I just discovered your blog and I love it.
This pie is really yummy. You find it in bakeries in France, but it’s better when u do it yourself.
Did you ever tried a tarte tatin? The tart is cooke upside down: any fruits (sweet) or vegetables (salted) underneath the pastry. Fruits or vegetables remain soft because the pastry trap their humidity. No addition of cream cheese or other things like that. Only spice or sugar to caramelize the fruits.

  23. Saturday night at 8pm. My boyfriend is whinging that there is nothing to eat. I tell him to eat the apples that are sitting in the fruit bowl. Announces he doesn’t want to eat anything healthy. Instructs me to go on ‘that blogy thingy’ and find something to make that he can eat in 2o minutes or under. Success! I use the leftover soft apples and some pastry located in the freezer. Result: one French Apple Tart with brown sugar glaze and a happy boyfriend. Btw, he likes your blog as much as I do because I now bake more!
