Forgotten Silver

There’s nothing more frustrating than mapping out an entire flea market outing and then leaving practically empty handed.  This past Sunday, I had all the right materials: my ridiculously small, yet functional cross-body bag, light layers, comfortable vintage boots and a detailed list of what I wanted to find.  Instead, I ended up taking a bunch of pictures of things I now wish I had bought.

The main entrance (I would have cropped out the creepy clown had I noticed him the first time).

sweaters.jpg

I now realize how cute one of these patterned knits would have looked with some tights and lace up boots.

crosses.jpg

I think a bunch of these vintage, mismatched crosses would look amazing on a bathroom wall.

chanel-shoes.jpg

I’m usually reluctant to buy any designer goods at flea markets, but how can you not love these neutral flats with black-tipped toes?

mexican-dresses.jpg

Wouldn’t one of these colorful Mexican dresses make for a perfect outfit for a Summer picnic?

glasses.jpg

 I want to start collecting these bubble glass saucers to store earrings and other odds and ends.  Plus, they’re pretty enough to leave out on the counter.

I’m still kicking myself for not swiping up these brown, lace-up boots.

Aw, I hate that feeling! Looks like there was some pretty good stuff there. But maybe the thrifting gods stayed your hand because something amazing is around the corner – something you’ll need all your money for? :) It’s a nice thought.

Oh no, that really sucks… Don’t worry, there’s a reason you waited – as Andrea said – maybe there are some better finds around the corner!

Adore flea markets, and so jealous you Americans have such great ones!

Ahh, I guess think of me whilst thrifting? ;)

Haha, p.s. have linked you as I love your blog and your style. Have a good one!

16 Casey { 01.14.09 at 10:25 am }

Just think of it this way: there must have been some kind of meaningful reason that you passed on buying the stuff the first time around, and when you’re shopping, it’s great to go with your gut!

There will always be another flea market, another vintage store. And next time around, you’ll have a better idea of what you want!

I definitely need to make time to go the Rose Bowl…thanks for reminding. Great blog. I will be a regular visitor for sure. Found you via I Heart You

21 savvymode sg { 01.14.09 at 12:35 pm }

isn’t it just so fun to find that something special for a bargain…. : )

22 Rachel { 01.14.09 at 1:22 pm }

Darn. The worst part is that you can’t just go back and find it again, like you would at a store. But I’m sure you’ll find things you love again next time.

23 Cafe Fashionista { 01.14.09 at 1:54 pm }

I’m partial to the bubble glass saucers myself. They would be the perfect place for various odds and ends, and bits and pieces. :)

24 Celeste { 01.14.09 at 3:08 pm }

Oh wow! I definitely would have picked up some of those knits in the second picture. I’ve been looking for some cute ones (even though the weather here in Socal is so HOT). I love those boots too!

25 Maria { 01.14.09 at 3:55 pm }

Good call on skipping the brown boots

30 Travelling Lightly { 01.14.09 at 5:58 pm }

I hate that! I feel the same way about designer goods at flea markets but I just passed up a beautiful old, old Dooney & Burke bag that was criminally cheap AND a polaroid camera. For shame.

Have linked to your blogs on mine- love your writing style.

31 catherine { 01.14.09 at 6:07 pm }

I’ve totally been in your position before. I hate leaving empty-handed after a long day of thrifting/flea marketing and even moreso if I regret not getting something. At least you took some great pics!

32 The Clothes Horse { 01.14.09 at 6:51 pm }

I would come away from that place broke! Whenever I do fail at a shopping trip I tend to purchase something online that I’ve been craving and resisting. :)

33 a pretty pill { 01.14.09 at 7:41 pm }

aww. super bummer. the brown lace ups would have been so cute on you. p.s. love the new banner.

34 The Lil Bee { 01.14.09 at 7:58 pm }

OK, well think of it this way, at least you won’t make the same mistake next time, right? Those are some good finds, Em!

35 Micaela { 01.14.09 at 8:41 pm }

That’s some cute stuff but I don’t think anything was to DIE for, you can do better! I think you knew what you were doing. :)

36 Uber Original { 01.14.09 at 9:57 pm }

37 Wendy { 01.14.09 at 10:44 pm }

I adore the Chanel flats!

38 Erin { 01.14.09 at 11:26 pm }

My dear girl,

I am an avid reader and usually love your posts. However, today I just wanted to let you know that the bathroom is not the place for an image of the Lord. He should not be used as a decoration, but as an object of reverence. Either respect religious articles or do not use them at all.
REspectfully,
Erin

Domo arigato for your sweet comment! Those flats are super fabulous! I’ve always wanted one of those colorful mexican dresses, maybe when I come across one again – I’ll get it.. gotta get ready for summer!

Those crosses are divine. No pun intended.

48 Poster Girl { 01.28.09 at 6:03 pm }

I adore the Rose Bowl Flea Market. There’s this vendor there lately who sells hundreds of vintage leather boots for decent prices. I can’t wait to go back! Love your photos!

49 Eleonore { 02.02.09 at 5:03 pm }

I adore mexican dresses!!!

50 amanda { 04.10.09 at 6:30 am }

51 maria { 10.08.09 at 8:18 pm }

Please contact me asap- I need it soo soon!

52 Maggie { 07.05.10 at 9:20 am }

Those lace up boots are gorgeous… I’ve been on the hunt for a pair exactly like them! I would bet you they’re a size 7 though, most vintage stuff is, I find. It’s hard being a 9!
