When I was a kid, I loved the idea of being able to buy my mom presents on Mother's Day. It felt more impactful to purchase a glossy gift than to simply bring home a mediocre art project from school. She, of course, much preferred anytime I made something myself, which I never quite understood until I had my own daughter.

Being a mom is the most rewarding thing I've ever done. It's also offered an entirely new appreciation of what my parents did for me - a lot of which I simply took for granted. So in the interest of thanking my mom for some of the little things she's done for me, I made fortune cookies* that hold tiny notes of appreciation inside. I dipped them into melted white chocolate and finished with pastel sprinkles and tucked them into take-out boxes.

*The batter for these took mere minutes to whip together, but the process of mastering the technique took two batches to get down.
