Five Things

October 14th, 2011

{A cheap bouquet feels fresh in a vintage mint julep cup}

I’m not sure if it was the oppressive heat or what, but this week seemed to go on forever. Luckily I managed to tackle a bunch of things, including some major strides in our wedding planning process. As you can see from the (slightly eerie) picture below from last Saturday morning, we’ve secured our venue and I’m so so relieved. It feels like everything else can now start to fall into place (like finding a dress!) and we’ve been enjoying the task of finding a song for our first dance. Turns out, most of the ones we’re drawn to are far too slow, which would result in a terribly awkward five minutes for everyone involved.

{The last batch of summer berries – that promptly went into a pie}

{Our wedding venue!}

    This is probably my fave ‘Five Things’ post. Each of those roses is absolutely perfect. Few things make me happier than a bunch of berries. Your wedding venue looks so classy. I too am utterly devoted to my Body Shop eyelash curlers (which they have now discontinued – ARGH!) and who doesn’t LOVE cheese?!

    If you’re having a wedding band you can always have them arrange a song to be a little shorter….pick your favorite verses. Or a DJ can probably do something similar.

    Im missing the berries….!

    I got great wedding advice to keep all special dances to under 2.5 minutes – that way you can have your slow song and it keeps it from getting awkwardly long. Good luck with the planning!

  • http://www.shiriously.com Shiri

    My husband and I not only had our song shortened, but we sped it up slightly. We danced to Depeche Mode’s Somebody and even though I love the whole song we agreed to go with just the first verse. It was suggested to me to try to keep it between 1.5 minutes and 2… Good luck! The venue looks great!

    If you still haven’t picked a song maybe you could check out Lovin’ in My Baby’s Eyes by Taj Mahal. It’s not too fast or too slow and he’s got an amazing voice!
