Five Things

October 14th, 2011

{A cheap bouquet feels fresh in a vintage mint julep cup}

I’m not sure if it was the oppressive heat or what, but this week seemed to go on forever. Luckily I managed to tackle a bunch of things, including some major strides in our wedding planning process. As you can see from the (slightly eerie) picture below from last Saturday morning, we’ve secured our venue and I’m so so relieved. It feels like everything else can now start to fall into place (like finding a dress!) and we’ve been enjoying the task of finding a song for our first dance. Turns out, most of the ones we’re drawn to are far too slow, which would result in a terribly awkward five minutes for everyone involved.

{The last batch of summer berries – that promptly went into a pie}

  20. Longest. week. ever. Hope you have a great weekend! Wonder if for your wedding dress, based on your style, if you’ll go vintage with a splash of modern or what you are considering?

  21. Congratulations! Once you pick your venue, as you said, everything will fall into place…soon you will start to check things off your list (which I am SURE you have made!) and then the day will be here! it’s such an amazing party and celebration. I always make little squares next to each item so I can use my little red pen to check it off once it’s complete! Crazy how a little detail like that can help to make me feel so accomplished! I loved planning our wedding–we had so much fun. Doug’s favorite part, other than planning the honeymoon, was the music and the food and drink so he let me have (pretty much) free reign over everything else. One thing I did was pick like three or four of everything and then he helped in narrowing down. I remember with the invites you see so many options and then they all start to look the same! I came home with three samples I liked and we chose together.

    So congratulations! I’m sure your gown (it’s not just any “dress”!!) and everything else will be EPIC!

    happy weekend:) x

  22. I love how your five things includes cheese once again! I also have a love affair with cheese. Every single kind of cheese! The flowers are beautiful too! Have a good weekend.

  27. those berries look spectacular. add the cheese, and i’m in heaven!

    i’m sure everything will fall into place for your wedding. i completely agree w. others who have send just dance to something you love. the wedding is about you guys – pick a song you love and go with it. that said, our song was “nothing fancy” by dave barnes. it’s sweet, but not overly saccharine, less than 3 minutes, and slow, but not crawling. i’m sure whatever you guys decide will be perfect for you :o )

  28. I love Five Things on Fridays! My favorite post of the week!

  29. Your wedding venue is INCREDIBLE!!!

  47. When my husband and I were fighting about, I mean, choosing our first song I had it in my head that I wanted “Here, There and Everywhere” by The Beatles. He thought it would be awkward and I backed off. We ended up dancing to “True Companion” which was lovely, but my heart belonged to the other one and every time I hear it I picture us dancing to it in our old NYC apartment on the parque floors. It always feels like it was our song even though it never actually was. Lesson learned? Choose the song in your hearts, not the one that will make your guests less awkward. Come on, when else will you ever be in that position to make guests feel slightly awkward at your benefit ever again??

  48. Shu Uemura is available in Canada!!

  49. The eyelash curler is unbelievable, it is my favorite beauty product!

  50. that bouquet is beautiful!
