Five Things

March 4th, 2011

{Decorations in the French Quarter}

Sometimes I feel like the only way I keep track of time is through my “Five Things” posts that remind me it’s Friday. This week has flown by particularly fast since we’ve been in New Orleans for Mardi Gras, enjoying everything this city has to offer. We’ve eaten incredible food, explored until our feet were blistered, and met so many kind, generous people. On tap this weekend: a Bloody Mary making contest, performances by Better Than Ezra, parade-watching, tracking down some authentic Po’ boys, and finding fun souvenirs to bring home.

{The beautifully eerie Lafayette No. 1 Cemetery}

{Pralines from a local sweet shop}

{Trees littered with colorful beads along St. Charles Ave.}

    New Orleans is such a great city! Cafe Du Monde’s beignets are the best after a night out on the town!

    I love your five things posts. So romantic and lovely, that praline looks amazing. Your blog is so amazing. I’m sure Barefoot Contessa would be proud. ;)

    Oh the Beignets at Cafe du monde are amazing!! I was there a few years ago and fell in love with them. You definitely have to try a po boy and if you haven’t had crawfish you should try that too because it was really good!

    They seem to be pretty big into voodoo down there. When I came home my souveniers were a voodoo doll and a marde gras mask, lol

    After reading this blog last night, I had a dream I was in New Orleans during Mardi Gras! haha I woke up so confused! This looks awesome!

  • Lauren

    I’m very jealous of you being in New Orleans right now. I lived there for 4 years. As to the po’ boys, you should check out Crabby Jacks and Domilise’s (can be difficult to find, but worth it). Those are two of the best places in town. Have fun!

    Mmmm candy pralines!!! I love the chewy kind that have the rich caramel holding it all together. Did you try any other “southern” candies during your trip? Coconut Long Boys are to die for!!!

    I’m a native of Louisiana and currently live in Baton Rouge (1 hour away from NOLA). Glad that you have visited the area and seems like you had a great time. I love reading your blog, its a highlight of my day! Laissez les bon temps rouler!

    Your post has me TOTALLY homesick. I miss Mardi Gras and all the food, floats, fun…and my fam. They’ve been going to the balls and parading it up like crazy. :( I tried to bring Mardi Gras to NJ but people aren’t buying what I’m selling…lol.

    I was there for the first time Sat-Wed. Best trip ever! I also went to Cafe Du Monde. Glad you had a great time!

    I recently just bought that sweater from H&M too and I love but I’m having trouble finding outfits for it since it’s cropped. What do you usually pair it with?? LOVE all the New Orleans pictures.

  • Eugenia

    That’s so weird! I was there for Spring Break on a KRUP service trip at the same time you were visiting! :D

    The beignets and cafe au lait were amazing, as you already know. :)

  • Ashley

    I currently live in New Orleans and loved seeing this as I backtracked through your blog – made me feel a bit sentimental! Starting to wonder why I’m considering moving away after graduation…

  • Grace

    I love your 5 Things for New Orleans! I’ve been living in NOLA for four years now and have yet to tire of the bead strewn trees and the copious amounts of powdered sugar that get all over my clothes at Cafe du Monde! I hope you had an exceptional time in NOLA and come back soon, rumor has it there is a burgeoning fashion scene down here ; )

  • Tulips & Tulle

    Love it! Ps what jumper are you wearing in that photo, very cute!
