Fireplaces in the Fall
October 22nd, 2010

One of the things that immediately sold me on our apartment was the old fireplace (built in the 1930′s). It no longer functions, but it still brings a warmth to the living room that I absolutely love. It’s now dominated by a massive flat screen above, but I still wanted to find other ways to decorate around it. I picked up these colorful leaves a few days ago and decided that they’d make a nice and simple garland. I secured the leaves with miniature clothespins and strung them on a piece of dental floss, which I secured with tape. I’m sure there are far classier ways to do this, but the whole process took mere minutes and the overall effect is quite nice.

The fireplace is amazing!!! So is your nailpolish…what colour is it?
I swear I’m currently wearing the same nail polish! What a confirmation that your blog is fabulous
love this idea. absolutely gorgeous-pretty. i’m going to do it with my preschoolers and decorate the classroom!
So sweet – I always make a point of scooping up handfuls of leaves to bring home as soon as I notice that the colors are starting to change. I love them.
This is tres adorable! Will have to try this leafy decor!
Cheers!
such a wonderful idea! absolutely love it.
what a sweet idea!
now please share the nailpolish colour/brand?
Very cosy! We have a gas fire in our house and in the winter it’s so nice to heat the house up with it and it looks so cosy, with candles, gingerbread cookies and mulled wine
Love this idea! hmm, now where do I find mini clothespins??
Love this. The ideas here are endless really, but I’m going to start with the leaves and lucky for me, there are about 10 bags full in my garage right now!

Hah, those mini clothespins are too cute! I really like this idea, it’s so simple yet it changes the entire ambiance of a room. I like to bring the outdoors in. This is a fresh take on decorating for the everyday nature-lover.
