There’s something about a white mule, mule-pump, or ankle boot that feels very mod and fresh this season. It’s hard not to immediately think of the swinging ‘60s and a Nancy-Sinatra-meets-Austin-Powers aesthetic. What keeps the white shoe looking current versus costume-y is chunky block heels and leather materials (a knee high, patent leather version would be straight out of the “These Boots Were Made For Walkin’” music video). My favorite version of the look right now is a low-heeled, rounded-toe ankle boot with cropped, frayed denim and a big turtleneck sweater. I haven’t bought a pair of white ankle boots yet, so for now I’m embracing the look with these white mules I purchased from Forever 21 last year, that I’m happy are all the rage at the moment.
