Everyday Make-up

February 29th, 2012

Most mornings I follow the same beauty routine – I wash my face, put on moisturizer, and apply just enough make-up so that I look put together, but not done up. It only takes a few minutes and makes for the ideal base, should I want to add on a smoky eye or a bold lip. Since I’m always curious about other women’s beauty routines (I would love to hear yours!), here’s a video I did with Estee Lauder to share the steps I take.

I tried your routine make-up this morning… And I’m feeling great! My face is so light but I’m put together. I just changed the moisturizer for an anti-age, that does the job ok…

    Thanks for this tip!

i dot on some concealer, then do a cat-eye with lashings of mascara (i LOVE dramatic eye makeup!) and a dusting of bronzer and some lip balm!

  • http://www.miyan-overseas.blogspot.com Miyan

i begin with some mosturizer (a must!) , then apply under-eye concealer, some bare minerals powder foundation, mascara, blk eyeliner to make my eyes pop, eyebrow filler to make them’existent’ and bronzer to look sunkissed all year long. and maybe a dash of lip color, if i feel fancy. if not, chapstick it is =)

Hi Emily: Your make up always looks great. I really like the pop of color for lipstick you use! My morning daily is: Wash my face with Cetaphil or dove, Oil of Olay moisturizer, Bare Minerals Medium Tan power, Bronzer, currently loving my pink blushes, black mascara and finally lipgloss and on some days lipstick in pink, brown or red. I am trying to get into wearing lashes sometimes…however I don’t have time in the morning for that! but I do love the long lash look!

I just did a blog post about how to look fresh-faced in the morning – my three must-applies: bronzer, illuminating powder and mascara: got to the post for more: http://www.yourstylesavior.com/2012/02/fresh-faced-face-off.html

I do the Bare Minerals routine: concealer, foundation, warmth bronzer, and mineral veil. Followed by a dash of mascara and some chapstick.

half the time i’m doing my makeup in the car just before heading into the office. With my son around in the morning there’s no chance to get anything done before dropping him off with his great grandma. Same with you though I just apply foundation, concealer, loose powder, blush, neutral shadow, eyeliner, mascara…that way I can build on it should I want to go out later on

You look so pretty in the video! I love your natural look.

Pretty! I never feel totally done without some rosy cheeks, too. I like the contrast and depth it gives to bronzer. I do serum, moisturizer with spf, light foundation, concealer under eye, and eye base. Then I ask myself if I could leave the house just like that because it’s natural, but always looks unfinished. So I then always do my entire face at that point, bronzer, blush, eye shadow, liner and mascara. Then I’m usually happier. The effort it takes to put on a little is almost as much as it takes to do the whole routine so I usually opt for the whole thing. Also, I’ve found that to remove it, I’m big on the Clarisonic. Do you have one? You’d love it.

  • Marta

Love the tip about fanning out the brush for bronzer!

  • grace

hey, you didn’t start from scratch! you already had your eyebrows drawn in and some eyeliner on!

Love this! Also, this may seem obvious, but a big part of my beauty routine is to make sure my face is washed PROPERLY before I go to bed. Even when I am in the shower I make sure I get rid of all the impurities. Often times women will go to bed without doing this (I don’t blame you…it’s tough to find the Streisand sometimes). But it is so important!

very nice video, i like it :-)

I follow a pretty similar routine, except I focus heaps on my skin before applying any makeup:

    * Gentle charcoal scrub (sloughs away rough skin for a smooth base and the charcoal brightens the skin)
    * Illuminating (oil free) moisturiser with SPF (face, ears, neck, chest)
    * Primer
    * Foundation (as little as possible) mixed with a bit of illuminator applyed with a MAC duo fibre brush.
    * Translucent powder on my t-zone (helps keep the makeup from sliding down my face through the day).
    * Black-brown mascara, focusing on the base of the lashes to fake eyeliner.
    *MAC Warm Soul blush (naming is easier than describing) instead of bronzer – This gives me a natural looking colour;
I have very fair skin and tend to go pink instead of tan, so bronzer can sometimes look a bit rediculous.
    *Gloss
*Earrings (generally studs of some description) – I have peirced ears and no matter what, if i’m not wearing earings, my face looks unfinished as you can see the holes. This is especially true when my hair is pulled back.

I wish a “light” moisturizer worked for me. I have to change mine up each season because it’s so dry here in the winter.

Love the simplicity of your look! Natural beauty at its best! I need that pink gloss!

I put on a light concelear, a coral shadow to give my face some color and then mascera and eyeliner. Simple yet enough to feel polished but not over the top. Love your style, thank you for all the inspiration!

I’ve been using estee lauder for a while now as my make up base for a natural no make up make up look. I love their face primer plus, ideal light brush on illuminator that makes my face looks more luminous. I’m happy with the product and want to explore more.:)

My beauty routine is super simple, wash face, moisturize, then just a little eye makeup, eyeliner on top and bottom and some mascara :)

    Emily et al,

Please watch this video. It tells the story of how Estée Lauder stole the idea of the pink ribbon from Charlotte Hayley to sell billions of dollars in products … products that contain toxic, cancer-causing chemicals!

    http://youtu.be/3QPZfcYTUaA

I know I speak for many when I ask you to please reconsider your relationship with this company. It has been exploiting the victims of a horrible disease — breast cancer — to sell billions of dollars of product. Why would you want to help this brand when there so many more ethical brands to support?

    Sincerely,
    Jane E.

You are so pretty! Love your eyebrows – and the tips. Especially the one about pressing the bronzer brush into a mirror, which I’d never heard before!

HK Girl, BB crème is available in Asia (though it falls under the CyberWhite franchise as Daywear isn’t available there). You can find out more on the HK site: http://www.esteelauder.com.hk/?q=en/CyberWhite

What an enlightening video, and so excited that you she worked with Estee Lauder! My routine is all that different but I love hear about others’ and especially getting tips on how to achieve a great glow. Tinted moisturizer really is the best, it hydrates the skin and just adds such a delicate touch of color. Thanks for sharing!

As a MUA, a daily look should be anything but routine. You should mix it up. Try Natural Monday, Glamours Tuesdays, ect. http://www.typef.com/article/great-ways-makeup/

  • Wendy

You didn’t mention the eye make-up that you’re wearing.. it looks like your daily routine also includes eye foundation and shadow and highlighter, as well as eye and brow liner.

Great video! Very simple and to the point! I follow a similar routine but with a little more coverage, especially in the winter months. Also, I sometimes add a little color for my eyes if time permits!

The video pretty clearly shows natural, subtle eyeshadow…where’s the part of the video for that?

  • katrina

The camera effect does not show your face at all. The face looks same both without and without make-up
