Everyday Make-up

February 29th, 2012

Most mornings I follow the same beauty routine – I wash my face, put on moisturizer, and apply just enough make-up so that I look put together, but not done up. It only takes a few minutes and makes for the ideal base, should I want to add on a smoky eye or a bold lip. Since I’m always curious about other women’s beauty routines (I would love to hear yours!), here’s a video I did with Estee Lauder to share the steps I take.

I apply Makeup Forever Mat Velvet + foundation with a moist Beauty Blender sponge onto moisturizer skin, applying most in the center of the face and blending outward. I use Full Cover concealer when needed, also by MUFE. I love Maybelline Eye Tattoos or MAC paint pots for a wash of color, and I tight line with Stila Smudgestick liner, putting Stila Kajal liner in Topaz, a nude color, on the waterline to make my eyes appear larger. A big fluffy brush and Tarte Amazonian Clay bronzed in a C shape over my cheekbone, temples, and forehead give warmth and glow. I use this same routine for brides, tweaking where necessary.

    Love your blog, great video!

This is a great video! I am a huge fan of the fresh faced/ less makeup look. I need to find a tinted moisturizer that matches my skin. I have pretty uneven skin tone, so my self-consciousness usually pushes me to put on more makeup than I need (causing more breakouts). I’ll definitely check out Estee Lauder now!

I love hearing everyone’s routines. I am terrible when it comes to make-up. My routine typically consists of washing my face, adding moisturizer, and applying mascara & foundation.

I would love to do a more complete look, but mornings are a struggle for me. I have just enough time to clean, moisturize, then apply mascara, blush, bronzer, and typically a nude lip.

I love learning different ways people do their make-up routine. I have been hunting for a good illuminizer, perhaps I will give Estee Lauder’s a go next!

    Cute video, you looked great!

Would love to see you with lighter eye brows, you have such sweet and faminine face, think softer brows would really suit you, just a thought… Love your blog, by the way. All the best!

  • http://christinaphillis.blogspot.com Christina

That’s perfect and usually how I end up leaving the house most days. Especially for work. There were a few things I am missing: tinted moisturizer and the illuminizer.

I just did a post on some new products I got from Bare Essentials…I am still a bit uncomfortable with makeup everyday but am working on it..I will definitely take some of these pointers into consideration! Maybe I will even do a post with makeup actually on my face!!!! Here’s hoping!

Love your video….I too adore a simple clean look! I never go without a little concealer, brows, blush and gloss! When I do mascara only on the top, makes you appear younger! I do love an illuminizer too and on some days I add a little smokey eye! It only takes minutes but gives you a polished natural look. Check out my blog for my take on beauty!

You forgot to mention all of the other makeup you’re obviously wearing, like eyeliner and whatever you used to fill in your brows. I mean, you look nice, but come on. This is not a routine with only four steps.

  • http://dontthinkjustfeel-yuka.blogspot.com/ Yuka
  • http://leiasdelights.com Leia

    My routine:
Benefit Boing concealer under the eyes and Benefit Erase Paste on the eyelids
Bare Minerals foundation all over my face
Mica Bella or Bare Minerals blush
Brush my eyebrows and pencil them in a bit if necessary
Liquid or gel eyeliner for the top of my eye – usually a subtle cat-eye flick
Revlon pencil liner for the water line
    Lipstick!

It sounds like a lot, but it only takes 5-10 minutes :)

I basically do the same routine as you. Wash my face, moisturize, and then apply make-up. I always put mascara on last and never put any make-up on my forehead. My mom always told me these two things and I don’t know why ha! But I have always done my make up that way. Kind of a funny thing too I have not gotten a pimple on my forehead in forever! I believe it is because of that!

  • http://southerncupcakeblog.blogspot.com/ Valerie @ Southern Cupcake

Love your simple makeup routine. That’s pretty much all I wear on a daily basis, partially out of laziness, but largely in part because I don’t feel I need it to look pretty. I love a more natural fresh faced look

  • Aubrey

I want to try their illuminator now! I absolutely love EL’s Advanced Night Repair serum. It’s a miracle worker.

  • http://beingvogue.wordpress.com/ caroline
  • http://www.youngladyouramess.blogspot.com Samantha

    great video!

My routine is very similar, although I focus on using all natural and eco friendly products. I start with a great foundation (with spf of course!) add a little blush, eye brightener, mascara and a light lip color.

  • http://redheadeddiary.blogspot.com/ Danielle Trefz

This video is great! It’s super important to stress the importance of the health of your skin as well as the makeup.
I always use an spf tinted moisturizer, concealer, illuminator, and a healthy coat of mascara.
I find I need 2 coats sometimes since my lashes are so fair!

  • http://fromtheletters.blogspot.com Francesca

    Love this entry! :)

My beauty routine contains the ff:
Moisturizer -> BB Cream -> eyebrow pencil -> mascara-> gel blush -> tinted lip balm ->lip gloss :)

  • http://tictaczo.blogspot.com Zoey H

On a normal day: wash face, serum, tinted moisturizer
On a “I look tired, kill me now” day: wash face, serum, tinted moisturizer, foundation, powder, blush, mascara

Also, I was talking to my friend the other day, and we wound up gushing about how much we love your blog. Keep it up!

  • Sarah

Are you kidding me? What about the fact that you started the ‘routine’ with a full face of make up? Unless you have your eye-liner tattooed on…

  • mimi

i’ve been using the EL concealer for years. i truly believe it’s one of the best ones out there and MUCH better than YSL touche eclat. i also use the illuminator on occasion, which is lovely.

i hope you do a feature on EL idealist. hands down the best product from their range!

I think that EL products, especially the moisturizers are the only things that suit my skin.

I live in Hong Kong and I just went to the Estee Lauder counter in Harvey Nichols here and they said they don’t sell tinted moisturizer in H.K. Wondering what the illuminating gel at the end is? Also EL? Great tips for someone who only has 2 mins in the morning.

Great video Emily, I actually do all of these steps too except I add light eyeshadows by Mac, eyeliner, and I curl my lashes. I use a bit of blush and I always use sunscreen too on my face & neck too. I like powder sunscreen best because it sets all my makeup. Congrats on working with Estee Lauder.

You don’t even need make-up from what I can see on this video! I always moisturise everyday, I never knew that was actually a good take on a primer – I just did it as I have sensitive/dry skin! I always need eyeliner too to make me more awake, but otherwise I like it simple and natural. xx

  • Lauren

Hey Emily great video, i have pretty much the same make-up routine as you except i add eyeliner and eyeshadow xx
