Doubled Up
Loeffler Randall Dress (last seen here), Forever 21 Dress, Vintage Belt, Prada Shoes
Turns out, you can only stay cooped up in an air conditioned apartment for so many hours before going a little stir crazy. I ventured out to see Inception (highly recommended), and since movie theaters are always exceedingly chilly, I doubled up with two dresses instead of pairing one of them with a thick sweater. Besides offering a bit of extra warmth, I love the idea of being able to layer, even in the dead of summer.

Saw Inception too–it hurt my dang brain, but an awesome watch. Love the belt and the idea of layering dresses. Super cute!

this is such a good idea.
i always just end up bringing a blanket to a theater. totally tacky but it is always worth it!
is layering two dresses not uncomfortable? i think i would be forever pulling one down or twisting one back to the right place etc.

Love the 2 dresses!
Great idea layering two dresses! I’ve seen strapless dresses layered over t-shirts but I wouldn’t have thought to layer it over another dress. I guess that would also help eliminate the need for a slip if the top dress wouldn’t needed one.
This totally looks like one dress! You’re a style genius!
What a genius idea! I also love the side braids, they make a pretty do for summertime.
xoxo, http://heelsandwedges.blogspot.com
You pull it off so well! And LOVE the prada shoes!
Everyone’s raving about Inception–I better see it soon.

I’m so glad to hear Inception is good, I’ve been really looking forward to seeing it.
You look cute but what about your poor legs! Weren’t they cold
I always take my big ole pashmina to the movies. It’s the only time I’ve ever cold in Thailand!
The dresses together are gorgeous! As are you. You’ve inspired me to search through my closet for dresses I can layer together, thank you Emily
So pretty!
love you’r blog!
Greetings from Norway <3
Vintage belts are the best.
I love that you layered two dresses and they look like one lovely dress. The braid in your hair is super cute as well!
That’s such a cute outfit! I love the cut out detail on the white dress.

I would never had known that this is a layered outfit. Lovely!
I adore how you layered these. However in Wisconsin’s stifling humidity, wearing two dresses will have to wait until the temperature drops!

love the vintage belt
That’s such a great idea – something I haven’t tried before. I don’t know if any of my dresses are big enough to slip over another because I like them to be on the tighter side, especially if they have a waist. Thanks for the idea… I think I’ll try it with a skirt

Layering is something I miss during the summer. I can’t wait for it to get back to Fall and I can start to wear tights all over again!
Ps – I saw Inception as well and it was wonderful! Great movie.
Sooo cute! Great layering job! I try but I can’t pull it off too well, haha

I’ve been wanting to see that movie! i like that belt !
I love when an outfit comes together unexpectedly like this! One of my favorite looks ever was when I turned a long cotton skirt into a strapless dress, layered two tanks over it, and belted it at the middle. I got so many compliments that day, and yet the whole look was probably $50 total! PS: Definitely want to see Inception, and I heard City Island is great, too.
so pweeetty
Love the dress – and the belt is amazing!!

ah, i know, i hate freezing my a$$ off in the theater!
What a gorgeous belt! Yes, why is it that movie theaters are always freezing cold?!? I find it odd that I need to bring a sweater when seeing a movie when it’s 90 degrees outside!

I love this idea! I love a white dress in the summer against tan skin
I love the way you layered the shirt with the dress. I’ve been trying to figure out how to do that without looking bulky and ridiculous for a while!
Very nice belt
I love the belt. I agree, staying cooped up can be super nice, but going to a good movie can really complete the weekend. I wanted to see that movie. I remember the days when Leo was in romeo and juliet, I for sure had a crush on him and a poster in my room! HAHA. You can call me a dork

Ooo – I have a black strapless, tulip skirt dress that I’ve been dying to try in this style. Do you think this could work for office attire (I’m seriously the worst judge of this ever!)?

What a cute idea! J Crew has been layering skirts in their magazines, but I hadn’t thought about doing it with dresses. And I am beyond jealous that you saw Inception- it is at the top of my fun to-do list this week!
I love these 2 dresses together. Really pretty!SarahD:)

We at Harriet Magpie also love mixing and layering. We play with pairing textures and patterns too. Love that dress layered, and even over a white tank it would be cute and daytime as well. You could even dress it up for night but putting a black silk, lace or mesh tank on…

So sweet! We considered Inception but couldn’t decide if it would work for me. Does it violate my ghost rules? I know it doesn’t have ghosts, but it sounds kind of heavy on the supernatural.
this is a great outift!

I must be having a hot flash well before my time because I saw Inception last night in shorts and a tank with a light cashmere sweater over top – and still felt warm. Ugh
Love the layers here. Very cute!

I love the print and bubble hem. The buckle of the belt is so unique too.

How funny that you posted this today. I saw a girl on the street wearing a top underneath her strapless dress today so she could pull it off at work. Great idea!
You look too cute, love that floral dress!
I love the contrast between the floral pattern strapless and the cut out detail of the Loeffler Randall dress.

I love this little outfit! The way you did your belt is just adorable and it’s quite cool that you layerd two dresses, sometimes a sweater can ruin a dress! I saw the movie too, it was so good!
