Domino Effect

May 5th, 2011

{Minimalistic, neutral tones with vintage flair}

My first job out of college was at Condé Nast, where I worked for the recently launched publication Domino Magazine. It sparked my interest in interior design, even though my apartment barely held my bed. I saved each and every issue and by the time I moved in with my now fiancé, I had built up quite the collection. Since all of the images were available online though, I opted to recycle them as a compromise of sorts (and he got rid of his stack of Mens Health). Fast forward three months later, when the magazine and the online edition folded; I was devastated. What I failed to remember was that I had tucked away some of my favorite pages into a binder that I just rediscovered yesterday. Here are just a few of them that still induce major house envy.

{Modern day opulence; love the pear green with robin’s egg blue}

{This makes me want to paint my fireplace a noir-esque black}

{My main source of inspiration for my office: light pink + glossy white}

{This living room somehow combines glamour with comfort}

{Fun accessorizing: white pencils + black frames + dual lamps}

{Love the color-coded bookshelves and multiple textures}

    I just can’t believe this! I just came to check out what you had posted in the recent days and saw this…..I too posted on the same day about Domino and how much I missed it! I guess we definitely think alike….on a side note I have a little black frenchie named Luna as I recall you have posted in the past about your black cat with the same moniker….Ciao Amy

    I miss Domino magazine. It was so contemporary and fun-for women in their 20s and 30s, it provided great design ideas and tips. I wish I’d created a folder like yours.

    There is just nothing like Domino. I can only hope that another magazine can emerge like it though nothing could take it’s place. So funny, I remember most of these pictures as some of my absolute fave and so glad I have a couple still…somewhere? Love!

    all the rooms are beautiful – it is so overwhelming though. i wish interior design was as easy as putting an outfit together!

    Domino was one of my favorites as well. I somehow managed to keep almost all of the magazine from the 4 years it was in print. It was one of my very favorite design mags! Loved Blueprint at well.

    I saw this posting a while ago and thought I would share – domino content is coming back through brides.com… kinda lame if you are not a bride, but still good content ( :

    I couldn’t imagine having to part with my beloved Domino collection! I was devastated when it closed. Thankfully I have my issues that have served as great inspiration! I look at at least 2 issues monthly. So awesome you worked there, still keeping my fingers crossed, it will someday return to newstands once again……
