DIY Jeweled Clutch

October 3rd, 2012

A couple of weeks back at H&M I found a cute geometric clutch that was close to perfect – all for $24.95. The one problem was the color (a shimmery, mermaid-blue). I felt like it had so much potential though, so I scooped it up and brought it home. Since all of the clutches I own are simple and plain, I decided to change up the look to make it a bit glitzier. I simply painted it a few coats of white paint and secured some strategically placed acrylic rhinestones with craft glue. I love the clean new look and think it’ll make for a great complement to an understated nighttime look.

Erm you ruined it… looks like youve painted it with tippex!

Not everything is better in a DIY version. Buy an original.

This looks a little tacky. The paint marks are far too evident and the jewels are simply too large-it looks rough, not elegant.

Totally did this this weekend! I bought it when you first posted this post, and it was actually on sale for $7. I kept it plain – painted the fabric part an offwhite/eggshell white, kept the metal as-is…it kind of looks like an egg! Thanks for this DIY idea!

i would really like to see you incorporate this into one of your outfit posts. i seriously doubt you will, but i’d love to see it. i think it would show how you actually use your diy’s in your daily life, to encourage people to creatively use more inexpensive pieces. let’s be real; most of us can’t afford $200 dresses or shirts 5x a week.
