Michael Jackson had an undeniable influence on dance and pop music.  In fact, one of his songs with the Jackson 5, “I Want You Back,” is on my iPod playlist for when I need to let loose with a solo dance party.   Here are my other go-to favorite songs that are sure to put me in a happy mood:

Brown Eyed Girl – Van Morrison
I Feel Fine – The Beatles
Better Life – Keith Urban
For Once in My Life – Stevie Wonder
Build Me Up Buttercup – The Foundations
Gumboots – Paul Simon
Rock and Roll – Eric Hutchinson
Ain’t No Mountain High Enough  – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
The Joker – Steve Miller Band
Only the Good Die Young – Billy Joel

Which songs make your list?

  1. Mmm, good songs! I have an entire playlist (called, appropriately, ‘Happy’) dedicated to this. Only one song really comes to mind off the top of my head, though – ‘Grace Kelly’ by Mika. Just makes me want to dance and skip! :)

  2. I was watching the news and the most shocking news was the one about Michael Jackson.
Oh and refering to your song list I knew some of them but I have to say that are all great!

    xoxo

  3. I think I am still in shock from the news! Such a loss!

  4. poor michael!

    - tiny dancer
    - girls just want to have fun

  5. Closer to Fine, Indigo Girls
    Southern Cross by CSN
    Hey Driver, Lucky Boys Confusion
Never Let You Go, Third Eye Blind
Let Love In, Goo Goo Dolls

  6. I’m a fan of SO many Motown favorites… I guess it’s because throughout my childhood my paretns “forced” me to listed to all of their classic oldies & now those are the fun, comforting songs I like to hear & sing a long to : -)

  7. Rest in Peace MJ. So sad.

Thank you for your list. I love listening to new music and always love to hear what other people are into at the moment. :)

  8. poor MJ. He had great music. I always think back to being 6 or 7 and taking jazz classes where our teachers choreographed our recitals to his music :) .
Bands who sing songs that are on my happy playlist include, My Morning Jacket, John Butler Trio and Old Crow Medicine Show.
    :)

  9. haha thats a cute list! i love build me up buttercup! such a childish song

i have to say anything by bob marley puts me in a great mood!

  10. my heart is aching over this news. I was never what you would call one of the crazy Michael Jackson fans but he’s always held a special place in my heart. I wore out my father’s Thriller record as a child – my boyfriend and I turned up the record player full tilt last night – and jammed out to the Thriller Album, it still skips at the end of the song Thriller as it did when I was a kid. I just can’t believe it. Between Jackson and Madonna they had the pop world on lock down – no one could deny that.

    Fave Jackson Songs:
    Beat It
    Thriller
Don’t Stop (‘Til You Get Enough)
And of course I love the Jackson 5′s classics as well.

Thank you for making a post about Mr. Jackson his presence will be missed and noticed in the music industry and in our hearts! :( Sad day in Music history!
