Words to Live By

manifesto4

I’m addicted to Pinterest. As someone who loves to collect visual inspiration, but struggles with organization, it fits my needs perfectly. The one thing that doesn’t always resonate with me is the influx of written inspiration. The words never seem applicable to my life, so with that in mind, I decided to create a manifesto. It’s simple and to the point, but filled with the things I hold to be most important. I like that it speaks to where I am currently, but that it’s open to change and interpretation the older I get. But for now, it’s surprisingly rewarding to see a list that reminds me of everything that matters most.

I’d love to know what you would include in your manifesto?

I did a similar thing a little over a year ago on my blog (http://www.lifeinblackandwhite.org/2012/01/project-i-believe-part-2.html). I modeled it after an Audrey Hepburn quote (“I believe in pink…”) that I found inspiring. It’s a good thing to write down and re-read often!

Your manifesto is perfect. I think I’m going to print it out and stick it on my positivity/motivation wall. I did that will Gala’s manifesto as well.

I love this mantra I completely agree. My 2013 mantra is: Live well, eat well, dress very very well.

    This is great :)

This is the perfect manifesto! I feel like this totally relatable to my life!

  • Audrey

I like this idea a lot– I agree, the written manifestos/’inspirational images’ on Pinterest never resonate with me, never inspire me or remind me of how to be my best self. The closest one has come to resonating with me is the lululemon manifesto. I appreciate the idea of creating your own manifesto, and your words to live by are laudable, sweet, and kind. I’m inspired to create my own some day!

  • Laurel

    Be calm. Be present. Believe.

  • Laurel

    thanks for this :)

Cool I really like this! I have been reminding myself to be thankful and grateful even when things are frustrating and to find joy in the small things. I want to make little illustrated prints to put in my cube :)

  • http:/primpandpaper.blogspot.com Francesca

Love this manifesto! Will definitely try making one as well :)

  • Lauren

What about, “Look beyond outfits, accessories, and decor?”

    • Roberta Whittiker

Hmmm, what a strange remark to make given that this is a blog about fashion, home decor, food, lifestyle. This is not CNN

  • http://Www.kristixoxo.com Kristi

I love this! I remember reading your blog in the ‘old days’ and you had a list of things you liked which ended with cupcakes and cashmere – it was everything I liked, too – any chance you still have that list somewhere on your blog?

  • http://www.dcstyleboard.blogspot.com Angel

These are excellent words to live by Emily! My motto is simply to live– live fearlessly, live for the ones you love, and live for the impact you can make. Simple to remember, takes a lifetime to strive towards ;)

  • Heather

Great inspiration for the day! I feel as though this could be something you could read every morning and get something different from it every single day. It’s too easy to get caught up in life’s stresses!! Thank you for sharing these positive words! :-)

  • Clare

I found this so inspirational. I’m a college freshman and I’ve loved your site since I started following a few months ago. I’ve always found at completely aspirational, but this post really touched me. I’m a total (sometimes painfully so) perfectionist, and I loved that this manifesto seemed to address that quirk/flaw/personality trait, but without letting it take control. So many “mantras” just stick with bland ‘be yourself’ or ‘take deep breaths’ but when I read your manifesto, it actually feels like something to live up to. Thanks! xo

Love this manifesto!! Very inspired to write one for myself!
