Crave or Save: SATC style

June 4th, 2008

As an avid fan of ‘Sex and the City,’ I’m embarrassed to say that I have yet to see the film. Despite my despicable behavior, I’ve done my research on the fashionistas’ wardrobes. Since I’ve written countless posts on my infatuation with anything gladiator-related, I figure it’s only fitting that I write a ‘Crave or Save’ piece on an affordable alternative to Carrie’s famous Diors.

While I always wondered just how Carrie was able to afford such incredible shoes on a writer’s budget, I suppose in the episode when the bank told her she was not a ‘desirable candidate’ for a loan, that pretty much summed it up.  Though I’ve seen these Extreme Dior Gladiator Platforms just about everywhere, they just don’t get old. The diamond shape that forms down the length of the foot is so flattering and they’re the perfect balance of a delicate sandal with a slightly masculine vibe.  Nine West’s Gisellan, is such an excellent option and still offer the same studded, multi strap, open toe look, but for a lovely $711 less.

When I first saw these, I wasn’t sure how I felt. However, after seeing Carrie rock them–you MUST see the movie, by the way–I have changed my tune!

YES! I agree with everything in this post. I love Nine West. Their cheaper versions of almost every shoe imaginable has really made them a household name for the budget fashionista.
And as for Carrie’s ability to afford everything — Remember that episode where she had to move out because of Aidan? When she was apartment-hunting, she mentioned that rent control allowed her to pay only $700 a month for rent. In NY, that’s ridiculous. Hell, in LA that’s ridiculous.
Phew, enough babbling. Time to shoe shop. :)

P.S. Hope it’s ok that I use one of your photos for my inspiration post this week. Let me know if you prefer that I don’t.

I’d be beyond flattered to be featured on your site, Neekoh! Thank you :)

These shoes are absolutely amazing. In my opinion, only certain people can pull them off and Carrie/SJP does just that. The Nine West pair does look quite tempting though!

For $69.95 you can get the EXACT look a likes from Bakersshoes.com. They have the exact same diamond shape and stud detail. :)

What a great find! I actually think Nine West pair is slightly more feminine! I’m glad they “re-designe” the shoes rather than “copy” effortlessly! Love the post!

In a perfect world there would be no war, everyone would have free health care, and I would own those Dior pumps!

Both the Nine West & Baker’s are nice alternatives though.

gorgeous shoes, either way. and i agree with everyone else here: you have to see the movie!

GO SEE THE MOVIE! I actually like the Nine West better! I LOVE shoes… but I refuse to spend a bundle on them… I’d rather search discount stores for knock-offs so I have more to spend on Coach bags!

Good find on the shoes!! Makes me want to get them…

I, too, always wondered how she could afford the designer stuff on a writer’s budget… and I’m glad they showed that bank episode, it made her look more… “real”.

I’m seeing the film tomorrow night. I know, a pox on me.

I don’t love those shoes with that dress, but I get the point about “why” the pairing was made. I love both shoes, and the dress. Just not together! Oh well.

Have you seen the movie yet? I saw it on the opening night, despite the fact that I was never into the show. I now know what I was missin’! Anyways, I just can’t make myself like these shoes. I know they are all the rage, but I think they’re unattractive. I prefer the Manolos featured in the movie =)

The movie is adorable I really liked it. And as to shoes, I think your option is great.
BTW, thanks for your lovely comment.

I loved the Dior ones when I first saw snaps of the Dior shoes, but there’s a million knock-offs now which kinda ruined it for me! Nine West shoes are fabulous though
