Crave or Save

ruffled-boots.jpg

I recently became a believer in the true quality of an expensive pair of shoes, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t still be indulging in the occasional cheap thrill.  L.A.M.B.’s Camden Bootie has been tempting me for months after I first ran my fingers across its playful little pleats.  Though peep-toe booties were all the rage this Fall, I knew that an abundance of ruffles on my feet could potentially grow old, which is why this Bakers option makes a lot more sense.  The flirty peep toe and 4 inch heel are just what I need to liven up a pair of mustard-colored tights.

What’s your take, is this a crave or save situation?

I’d say save…’cause they don’t look like you’d wear them so frequently that a higher price tag is justified. Also, the save pair is pretty darn close.

I’d wait until a better looking pair of shoes came along.

3 DazzlingRunway { 02.25.09 at 3:16 am }

I’d say save. They look pretty much the same, but offf course – if you have 430¤ left, why don’t you spend them on shoes..?

I have a massive LAMB bag that I use daily, I am rough with my wares and it has served me well so I totally can vouche for LAMB being worth the money. That being said who can’t resist a bargain thats almost identical to its designer counterpart? Not me!x

5 Luphia { 02.25.09 at 4:18 am }

given the massive difference, i’d prob save, unless the lamb pair wil be on sale anytime soon?

6 andhari { 02.25.09 at 4:40 am }

Sooo cute. Depends on how you see it, I think the design is pretty timeless so splurging wont hurt. But saving might be good too, in case something totally new and fabulous arrives soon

7 Danielle { 02.25.09 at 5:53 am }

This is def a save. You can’t beat the low price!!! I love them! :)

8 Vivian { 02.25.09 at 5:57 am }

save! like you said, you might get tired of the ruffles next season, and the bakers are quite amazing looking!

9 Lynne { 02.25.09 at 5:59 am }

I think it depends on the material. I’m not a fan of shoes which aren’t real leather. These do look quite fashion conscious though – not sure how much wear you would get out of them? Also, obviously it depends how much money you have – if you can afford them and would feel better in the more expensive pair, then just get them if you want to. I do believe in investing – but more in handbags – I wear out shoes pretty quickly.

I tried on the Baker’s option a few days ago, and they did not look good on! They looked great on display – but not at all on the foot!

I had such high hopes!!

I say neither crave nor save – just pass!

I’m always open for a great deal, especially on the more trendy items that I may only wear for one season.

Now, if I’m looking for that essential pair of “power heels” that I’ll wear throughout an entire year, than I’m more open to a splurge – they’ll last longer and be more comfortable.

I say go with the “save” item on this pair ; )

Great post!

Wait for the sale. But if not go for the save. I am actually thinking about buying some very cheap shoes at payless just to satisfy my trend craving right now.

13 LayersofMeaning { 02.25.09 at 7:06 am }

Have you seen these (baker) shoes in person?
Normally the quality of their shoes is not the best. I’ve seen a lot of styles I love and they I go to the store and they look really bad! they are normally plastic – cheap looking plastic!

14 LayersofMeaning { 02.25.09 at 7:07 am }

*bakers

15 Sal { 02.25.09 at 7:09 am }

Save! That shoe is adorable, but in now way timeless. Will you be wearing it in ten years? If not, go for the knockoff in this case, I think.

16 carlotta { 02.25.09 at 7:15 am }

save..I agree with Sal, it’s better to spend on classic items and save on trendy ones for me;-)

17 Caroline { 02.25.09 at 7:31 am }

I’m a huge proponent of saving, and the Baker’s versions don’t look like “save” shoes, you know what I mean? I love LAMB as much as the next girl, but I’d pull a save this time around.

18 Paige { 02.25.09 at 8:01 am }

TOTALLY save. Those are so cute…but will you love them in 5 years? That is usually my thought process of big splurges – if they stand the test of time go for it. If it is a trend with a foreseeable end, buy the knockoff.

19 Jessica { 02.25.09 at 8:13 am }

If they were sleek booties, without the ruffles, which will likely be more long-lasting as far as trends coming and going, I would go with L.A.M.B. But because the ruffles will probably not be desirable in the near future, I would choose the Bakers, just as long as their quality is even worth the $70.

20 Jocelyn { 02.25.09 at 8:16 am }

I say Save! Buy the bakers and INVEST the rest!
ps- love the Blog!

21 summer { 02.25.09 at 8:23 am }

Save! In fact, I think I neeeeeed those Bakers Shoes. I am in. love!

22 summer { 02.25.09 at 8:24 am }

Ooops, forgot my website url changed. This is the one…

23 Jessie { 02.25.09 at 8:29 am }

These are CUH-YUTE! Definite save, though.

24 Anne @ The City Sage { 02.25.09 at 8:36 am }

Wow—I’m amazed at how close the baker’s version is to the lamb ones. generally i’d say save and go for the bakers ones, but even from the picture I can tell how much of a higher quality the lamb version is. it’s a tough call!

25 Carolyn { 02.25.09 at 8:47 am }

I agree with some of the other comments – although the price difference is vast, it’s obvious where the quality is. IF the Bakers version look great on, i’d say save. But if not, i’d definitely go with crave b/c i’ve ALSO been eyeing those booties and am hoping to save up for them!!

xoxo,
C

26 Alianna { 02.25.09 at 9:03 am }

It’s not often that a designer knockoff is almost identical to the designer they are trying to mimic. Sometimes it’s just not worth it to have a label. I think this is definitely one of those times, so save.

How long do you think pepp-toe booties will really be in style?

27 issa { 02.25.09 at 9:34 am }

ooh definitely pull off the save!

28 Julia { 02.25.09 at 9:45 am }

They would be a killer save :)

29 Lexie { 02.25.09 at 9:51 am }

I think they fall slightly more on the trendy side of the scale, so I’d save!

30 Sweet Nothings { 02.25.09 at 9:58 am }

SAVE! i say splurge on the classics, save on the trends..but those shoes are awesome

31 Nicole Marie { 02.25.09 at 10:32 am }

well he lamb ones are wayyyy cuter! but the other ones have a much better price!

32 Joyce { 02.25.09 at 10:38 am }

Cute shoes and a steal at Bakers!

33 zoe { 02.25.09 at 10:52 am }

both pairs of shoes look so similar, it’s better to save on this design than splurge on the other shoe, and bakers shoes are well made.

34 Sleepdreamdress { 02.25.09 at 11:12 am }

I’d save mainly because the baker ones look very similar. And plus they are really trendy….if it was a plain pump from LAMB I’d cave but these aren’t really a basic. I love your style btw….put up more outfit pics? xoxo

35 Celeste { 02.25.09 at 11:12 am }

Save. Especially since they look so similar.

36 Courtney from Mommie Blogs { 02.25.09 at 11:13 am }

I’d say save. I will spend the money on classic pieces, but find myself trying to save on trendier items.

37 hanako66 { 02.25.09 at 11:33 am }

I’d go with the bakers….I choose the save route unless the shoes is very timeless.

38 Tia { 02.25.09 at 11:33 am }

I would save for sure! I am all about spending money on quality pieces as long as they are classic and you can wear it for years to come. As cute as these shoes are, they will most likely be old news next year.

39 hanako66 { 02.25.09 at 11:34 am }

sorry…unless the shoes are very timeless

40 kasey { 02.25.09 at 11:37 am }

I’m normally the craver, but I’ll be the saver on these.
xo

41 Anne { 02.25.09 at 11:48 am }

very sexy!

42 Vanessa { 02.25.09 at 11:52 am }

save! oh save! Bakers always have such cute shoes for great deals!

43 Rachel (Heart of Light) { 02.25.09 at 12:28 pm }

Definitely save. The second pair looks so similar to the first, and the price is so good!

44 isnotfashion { 02.25.09 at 12:38 pm }

Save on this one, it will get tired fast.

45 Rosilen { 02.25.09 at 12:58 pm }

I say SAVE SAVE SAVE. Those shoes are hot but think of what else you can do with the extra. LIKE BUY ANOTHER PAIR OF SHOES!!!!

46 najeema { 02.25.09 at 2:15 pm }

I would go for the Bakers pair after seeing them IRL. I’ve been heartbroken before upon seeing their stuff up close. But if they are nice, let us know because I’ve been looking at them too! :)

47 jess { 02.25.09 at 2:29 pm }

wow!!! what a great find!!! they look the same! haha xoxo

48 Heidi { 02.25.09 at 2:46 pm }

I say CRAVE. That style will come back around again and again. And I’m afraid those Bakers might look cheap, which you can’t have when you’re trying to pull off ruffles.

49 natalie { 02.25.09 at 2:51 pm }

This is a great replica. I’m for the save version, especially since the shoe is very trendy.

50 Micaela { 02.25.09 at 3:03 pm }

This is SO WEIRD because I cut a mustard colour pair of those LAMB shoes out of a magazine a couple months ago because I loved them so much, and I just came across it the other day and loved them just as much. The picture is now sitting on my night table. As a student, I can not thank you enough for the save version!

Thanks for once again being my most favourite stylista.

51 Fashion CHALET { 02.25.09 at 3:12 pm }

Diamantes, or very small diamonds I believe? the main stone is Amethyst. I love it. I’d love some earrings next. What did you pick?

52 Brooke { 02.25.09 at 3:18 pm }

I say Save – the quality looks a bit poorer, but how much longer will ruffled peep-toe booties be relevant. Take a sharpie to the Bakers’ heel — that’ll up the $$/look quotient.

53 Fab Brunette { 02.25.09 at 4:58 pm }

I say if you have the money to spend, spend it, crave it, love it, smell the italian leather, play with the ruffles, wear them to bed, they are amazing and will last a long time.

If you don’t, save, and buy the cheap pair, and realise they will last you a season, but if that’s all you’ll wear them for anyway, then SAVE it up!

54 Wanderlusting { 02.25.09 at 5:12 pm }

I would crave – maybe – just because they aren’t THAT expensive. I think under $500 is justifiable, it’s not like they are $800 loubs or something.

On the other hand, I just don’t “get” LAMB and not sure if the price is justifiable. I think it’s expensive just cuz it’s a celeb line.

55 Wanderlusting { 02.25.09 at 5:13 pm }

(didn’t notice the peep-toe, so that will make the shoes “dated” in a year or two. Perhaps SAVE :)

56 S. Elisabeth { 02.25.09 at 6:53 pm }

save! they’re definitely a trendy type thing, spend 430 dollars on something else. (personally i love the chloe shoe collection =))

57 freeteyme { 02.25.09 at 9:30 pm }

I say save. Specially since the style is very trendy and the Bakers’ is pretty much a carbon copy of the LAMB version.

58 TrendKat { 02.25.09 at 9:39 pm }

I definitely know that feeling! You just have to think what you can do with that money you’ve saved. You can save for a cruise or a trip to Europe… where you can buy even MORE SHOES!

59 Hayley { 02.26.09 at 11:48 am }

I say Save!

60 Lainey { 02.26.09 at 4:08 pm }

As most people have already posted, this is definitely a save situation. While LAMB’s looks a little more sophisticated, I went to Bakers the other day, and tried on this pair-and was quite satisfied with it.

61 Angelica { 02.26.09 at 9:29 pm }

So true…a good quality shoe is worth every penny but sometimes you just want something trendy or pretty and paying too much is craziness.

62 katie { 03.01.09 at 1:34 pm }

I’ve actually bought the baker’s and while some of their shoes are really cheap looking this pair is really great. the only thing that i would caution is that if you have wide feet (like me) then the ruffles can flair out on the sides and look slightly weird. but i’ve worn them with skirts and tights and just plain skinny jeans and every time i’ve received compliments.

63 Alice { 03.03.09 at 5:14 am }

I think you should save and spray the cheaper shoes darker and tell everyone they are designer. Why buy a $430 pair of shoes when some people around the world are earning less than $1 a day in the sweatshops making these products, so the companies can get filthy rich?!

64 Peter Zezima { 03.13.09 at 9:44 pm }

I would rather play runescape than but that. I cant be bothered to get out of my mothers basement and stop playing runescape, so i doubt i will buy those shoes. i say save, i dont earn any money but.
