Crave or Save

September 10th, 2008

It’s not often that I find myself obsessing over a certain item for very long. Typically, my fickle self searches for faults so that its appeal slowly begins to fade.  Unfortunately, Loeffler Randall’s Matilde Flat Boots are so close to perfection that for the past two years, I’ve been unable to deny that their caramel color, slight heel and simple shape make them utterly incredible.   I figured it was time to do a Crave or Save post, mainly so that I could distract myself from the Loeffler Randall’s hefty price tag of $695 and so that I could avert my attention to a similar boot.  A lovely reader recommended I try out Bakers, and I must say that their tan Izzy boot is ridiculously similar in its construction.  The tan color and double gold buckle set them apart slightly, but they would be just as amazing when paired with skinny jeans or a Bohemian-inspired dress.

What a call to make!! maybe save to 150$ and see if the Bakers are still calling, if not, try and persevere saving to the expensive ones!!

I love both pairs of boots! I must have tried on a zillion pairs today trying to find some that fitted my needs.

We’re so on the same wavelength right now. I wasted waaay too much time yesterday looking for a cheaper alternative to the $600 boots I’m craving. Don’t worry – mine have a small stacked heel, so we can still go out in public together. I really can’t help you with this one because I’m a little afraid I might cave and go for the pricey ones.

Also check Aldo’s. I was just there on Friday and found an almost identical pair for $150. After “sleeping on it”, I think I am going back to get them. While I would love to splurge on the Loeffler boots, the Aldo boots are more practical, esp. since I end up being pretty rough on shoes!

my sis is totally in adoration with loeffler now. i like the boots you pick you. very simple and classic. but loeffler look luxurious, without touching the leather, i’d be willing to bet loeffler is softer and more supple. will it go on sale???? maybe!

i’m going to play evil and say i’d definitely go with the loeffler boots. the bakers just don’t compare to me. boots are SO versatile and have serious staying power in your wardrobe. i splurged on some gorgeous boots in college and they still never fail to garner compliments when i pull them out 5 years later. seriously. go for it! ;-)

Loooove both pairs, but go with the cheapies and then buy $500 worth of clothes to go with them.

I think you should only go for the Loeffler boots if you’re going to wear the hell out of them. If not, go for the Bakers boots.

Loeffler Randall boots are divine and worth every penny! You should get them at shopbop when they do one of their promotions (they have 100 off an order of $500 or more from time to time . . . ).

i really like the bakers ones actually. i think they’re cuter than the loeffler randall. maybe it’s the buckles i don’t know, but they’re uber cute.

I honestly think the Bakers boots are cuter, but that is just me. :)

i say LR. sorry no help! I’ve seen them & they are mighty dreamy… the buttery leather can’t be beat.

if you LOVE them & will wear them heaps then splurge. You can NEVER go wrong with a good boot. Look at all the vintage boots people are rocking. boots only get better with age. You will still love this style in 10 years…

BUT splurge only if you are 101 % sure.

i love this feature! both boots are so cute.

These are both cute — but I think I’m gonna go for the “save”

    Great option!

save, get the baker’s! But definitely check out Aldo too – then maybe the loeffler’s will be on sale later..

there is no reason you shouldn’t get the ones from Bakers…nice find my dear.

As long as the Bakers are up to your standards, why not?

i surprisingly like the Baker’s better, although i’m a huge LR fan… i like the style better.

only get the LR if you’ll wear them, like, A LOT. like another reader said, you could get clothes with all the money you save!

Ok I have to say that I love your blog, my friend just told me to check it out and it is by far one of my favorites!!! Also I have to say I like the LR’s better and if you absolutely love them …… I have a question for you too, I saw your post about that guilt website, for sales …. can you invite people, if so I would LOVE an invite, thanks!

  • http://asiancajuns.blogspot.com catherine

I’m sure the LR boots feel nicer and are better made, but I think the Baker boots are just as cute. Go for the save!

  • http://rougemarie.blogspot.com Ida

The LR are just too expensive from my point of view, as I tend to get tired with stuff pretty quickly. As soon as I get it, to be precise *lol* 2 years are a long time, though, and if you still like them that much, I say go for them!

I have the Loeffler Randalls with a heel
    I love them
best leather ever. Only 170 bucks on sale.
If this boot is two yrs old you should have some luck finding it on huge sale somewhere, no?
anyhow, I agree, it is delicious.

Ha! Those Seychelles boots I just told you about? The Loefflers were the inspiration! Glad you found a cool pair that was waaaay cheaper!

Thanks so much Emily — the Bakers — those were the ones I was thinking of…you’re the best! :)
