Crave or Save

August 3rd, 2010

Last fall I practically wore down the entire five-inch heel of my Steve Madden booties (seen here, here and here) since I rarely took them off.  They’re made of suede, completely versatile and they’re certainly my go-to boot for colder weather.  This year I’m looking for even more texture and Givenchy’s calf hair ankle boots pretty much top my list.   While I love the sleek design and the delicate ankle strap, Senso’s Wilma is equally chic and the extra wide opening will be sure to make legs look long and lean.

The wilma ones look a bit unfinished and homemade. I’ll splurge, although I’m not sure how well they’ll wear.

What do you think of Giuseppe Zanotti’s F/W 2010 Grease-inspired campaign? I love it and offer up some commentary today! XO Valerie

Not a fan of these. Never thought I would say that on your blog. But I enjoy reading your posts daily…

I hate to say this but the Wilma pair look very “cheap”, I’d definitely have to go with Crave (or Splurge) on this one!

Ummm…fug, both of them. They would make one’s foot look like a little cloven hoof, like the devil. Plus, messy when wet. I’m not a fan of wearing fur, and although these may be a by-product of the meat industry, like any other leather or animal-skin item, it’s just a look I’m not into, and I find it suggestive of cruelty. And did I mention, they’re fugly? Sorry.

i truly do love the look of these , however , with the current bootie obsessed haze i have been living in for the past couple of years , i’m bound to love them . i also do love how thick and bristly the hairs are . although i do not agree with the usage of calf hair in clothing , i most certainly do love the style of these boots ! the ankle strap in the givenchy style does surely take it up a notch , i would go for those if you’ve got the cash !

Holy crap, these are the grossest shoes I’ve ever laid eyes upon. D:

    The design is just “alright.”

    But…Calf hair?

Come on. Cruel and disgusting. Barf

Well, I think I’m gonna have to go for the saves here, Emmy:) They’re waaaay cheaper, plus faux, so I say go for ‘em! Also, the fact that you are hard on your shoes (as am I) tells me that $1100+ would be heartbreaking to spend, should they Craves wear down to nothing by the end of the season.

PS: You coming here next month or what, sister?!

    Invest in the Givenchy!

  • leila b.

i’d say save. but i don’t have much money and the sturdier heel could only be my friend as i fall in heels so much–so that’s why that’s my choice. i’m sure you’d rock either!

Save! They are equally as fab!

I’m OBSESSED with your Steve Madden black suede booties — like, to an unhealthy level. I’ve been searching for a similar pair… SM is doing one this fall that’s pretty similar. Anyhow, I’m sure that I couldn’t pull them off, but the Givenchys are stunning!

I would go with the Givenchys, they seem like a worthwhile investment and I love the delicateness of the ankle strap counteracted with the fierce yet feminine heel. Also, the calf hair looks of much better quality.

    saaaaaaaaave.

  • Carlyree

Save! I like both, but saving $ is always appealing :) Though I do believe the most important things to splurge on are shoes, coats, & bags… for some reason right now, I’m feeling the ‘save’ option the most! :) Have a lovely Tuesday morning, and keep the fun pics coming! <3 Carlyree

ooooo… I’m adoring the ankle strap on the givenchy ones. Hot.

  • http://www.styleatelier.wordpress.com Angela

Oooooh! Givenchy ones for sure! They are much sleeker and the ankle strap is a must!

  • http://www.sarahwj.wordpress.com Sarah

Givenchy for sure. The others almost look, dare I say it, cheap?

  • Natasha

The givenchy heel has a more cohesive look so I think it’s worth giving into the craving!

  • http://www.lovelywanderlust.com Emily and Abigail

lusting the Givenchy shoes.. can you ever replace Givenchy?!

  • RafaelaR.

To be honest the Wilma’s ones look cheap. I would prefer to save the Givenchy shoes are Fierce and seem to have better quality!
    Love your blog, XO

  • http://espelhando.wordpress.com Luana

i wouldnt wear any type of fur/skin

  • sia

love the wilma booties much more than the givenchy ones, i prefer the chunky looking heel and the wide ankle will be alot more flattering than the ankle strap on the givenchy boots. senso has a great rep for quality so it would be a great save.

  • joanna

BTW calf hair is the same as leather and suede.i suppose those who are disturbed by those shoes are wearing pleather shoes, sitting on a pleather couch, with their feet on a pleather poof, eating beans.

  • Anoushka

Wow I’m loving the fur ankle boots, super fierce! I don’t think it matters which you buy because there both lush! But with such a large price difference I would go with the Wilma pair. I’m loving the chunky heal, definite head tuners. Then anyway with the money you save you can buy a hard leather jacket to complete to look. x

  • rose

i like the Givenchy pair waay better! the heel is nicer and i like the ankle strap :)

  • aliyah

Considering the price difference i definately prefer the Wilma booty! if you didnt put the label at the bottom i think this debate would go very differently! The Wilma booty is more street- edgy- fun – i love the chunkyness and slightly unpolished feel..i want them!

    love your blog x

Not sure about the fur, but always go after the crave.
