Crave or Save

crave-or-save-ankle-boots.jpg

For the past few weeks I’ve been searching for a pair of ankle booties with a substantial heel to wear with a dress and tights or to add a bit of height to dark skinny jeans.  Though YSL’s Easy Booties are positively stunning, their price is a bit hard to swallow.  Aldo’s Seace ankle booties are a close match and with their towering heel and curvy silhouette, they’ll make a nice addition to my closet (I should know – I just ran out to buy them on the spot!).

What’s your take – is this a crave or save situation?

Save!

I love the YSL Easy Booties but there are so many things I could buy with that money!! And the truth is, Aldo’s Seace are very cute as well. Aren’t they?

2 courtney { 08.20.09 at 2:05 am }

Save! I like the look of the Aldo ones regardless!

3 vicen { 08.20.09 at 2:07 am }

They are nice but somewhat expensive.

I agree that the YSL ones are beautiful but I too would save in this situation ~ I like the detail on the Aldo ones just as much.

5 abigail { 08.20.09 at 3:22 am }

Save! I actually like the Aldo booties better, and think I might run out and get a pair for myself.

6 Same New Story { 08.20.09 at 3:47 am }

save! the aldo pair is great!

7 Lexi { 08.20.09 at 3:53 am }

save! I like the Aldo ones better as well!

8 Jheanell { 08.20.09 at 4:08 am }

I think the Aldo pair is more than sufficient – the YSL’s are stunning but the Aldo pair are a more logical choice

9 kelly { 08.20.09 at 4:35 am }

The YSL def look richer and cool Y suede down the middle…but I am always for the save ;)

10 Amanda K { 08.20.09 at 4:43 am }

Save!

11 fashion roadkill { 08.20.09 at 5:29 am }

Aesthetically, I love the YSLs..but in terms of price, the Aldo ones.

12 Linda { 08.20.09 at 5:43 am }

Save. The Aldos are cute. I want to see if my local Aldo has them. This is what I really love about your blog, you don’t feel it is necessary to always buy designer. Although those Louboutins you have….oh boy…SWWWOOOONNNNN. I swear if I owned louboutins I’d make myself wear them every day.

13 Pia { 08.20.09 at 5:49 am }

Love the YSL booties, I think of them as an investment if anything; )
The Aldo once just look plain cheap and sure won’t last as long as the YSL ones… So it’s crave crave crave for me in this one. Love your blog!

14 Lauren { 08.20.09 at 5:49 am }

I like the YSL ones better, but they’re so expensive! But hey, if you can afford it..
http://champagneandmarshmallows.blogspot.com/

15 Dina's Days { 08.20.09 at 5:52 am }

Save all the way.

16 The Lil Bee { 08.20.09 at 6:06 am }

The YSL are gorgeous but, yeah, in this case, I’d have to go with the Aldo. Just such a good price.

17 Beth { 08.20.09 at 6:07 am }

This would definitely be a save situation for me! I mean, when there is a less expensive version that I like just as much, or very close to as much, logic says, go for the save!

18 Sal { 08.20.09 at 6:07 am }

I prefer the detailing on the YSL bootie – the exposed platform is SO fun – but I agree that this is a definite save situation. Can’t wait to see what you do with the Aldos!

19 Melissa { 08.20.09 at 6:25 am }

Definitely SAVE! Those are really pretty!

20 www.therantsofrian.blogspot.com { 08.20.09 at 6:30 am }

Save!! I think I too prefer the ones from Aldo. Very classy. Can’t wait to see them in one of your outfit photos!

21 Amber { 08.20.09 at 6:39 am }

Both beautiful booties, but Aldo does it again! Definite save situation.

22 Jaime { 08.20.09 at 6:48 am }

I like both, but I’d save in this situation…. crave a tall boot this season!

23 CashmereLibrarian { 08.20.09 at 6:50 am }

Good for you–I’m still on the lookout for my fall bootie fix!

24 Wrecked Stellar { 08.20.09 at 6:50 am }

I’d go for a save on this! I do like that the YSL one has the platform but this one should be a definite save.

25 Christina { 08.20.09 at 6:59 am }

SAVE!! Personally I like the heel on the ALDO bootie better. It’s way sexier.

26 Vivian { 08.20.09 at 7:02 am }

Oh, the YSL are so lovely, but for the price, I’d definitely go with the Aldo. I think ankle boots are a trend that will come and go, so I’d save the money for a nice fall jacket, or handbag!

27 chicfaced { 08.20.09 at 7:06 am }

I kinda like the Aldo ones better, anyway!

28 freeteyme { 08.20.09 at 7:20 am }

definitely a save. i don’t like the platforms on the YSL, very trendy.

29 Sarah { 08.20.09 at 7:33 am }

This is definitely a save situation. I think the Aldo version is cuter than the YSL version.

30 Cafe Fashionista { 08.20.09 at 7:35 am }

I actually prefer the Aldo offering. Save! :)

31 Tara { 08.20.09 at 7:38 am }

I just get tired of things quite quickly, so I’m always nervous about spending too much! They are both beautiful, really!

32 Nicole Marie { 08.20.09 at 7:40 am }

haha definitely a good purchase! aldo was making some crap recently but i just browsed their site and i make just need to make a trip!

33 Tara { 08.20.09 at 7:48 am }

Save definitely! the aldo one is just as nice !

http://www.coquettishfacade.blogspot.com

34 cara { 08.20.09 at 7:48 am }

You always find *such* good matches in the “save” department for the “crave”s you find! Ditto above + loving that Y detail, but totally the Save is so close + worth saving $755 ;)

35 Amy { 08.20.09 at 8:04 am }

I actually like the Aldo Booties a little bit better (and not just because of the price)… I think they are a little more versatile and can be dressed a little more up or down. Both are stunning though! =)

36 S.Elisabeth { 08.20.09 at 8:04 am }

Definitely save! The aldo booties are too cute.

37 Fashion of Photos { 08.20.09 at 8:10 am }

Emily, I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and I admire your writing style and posts.
I’ve been deciding which pair of booties I want for fall as well, so this post was right up my alley.
I hope you don’t mind, but I’ve mentioned your post in my blog.
http://fashionofphotos.blogspot.com/

38 Absolutely Not Martha { 08.20.09 at 8:10 am }

absolutely save. (if you get a chance, your input please on my post today.)

39 Your Girlfriend is Ugly { 08.20.09 at 8:18 am }

Save. The Aldo ones are better looking anyway.

40 Kristin { 08.20.09 at 8:20 am }

Oh course, the YSL ones are AHmazing, but pricey. The only problem with Aldo is sometimes their shoes end up being very uncomfortable. They look extremely cute though. Go for it

41 Michael { 08.20.09 at 8:45 am }

I want more outfit posts! I’ve never liked aldo though, go for YSL. For sure. I hope next post=outfit.

42 Kelly { 08.20.09 at 8:50 am }

I. Love. Aldo. I miss having one right at my local mall since I moved. I actually think the Aldo version is more fetching and I think it has better staying power as far as fashion goes – it looks more “classic”. I love when you do these segments – $140 is still a bit pricey for me, but it’s a great option vs. the original version! KEEP IT UP!

43 Ali { 08.20.09 at 9:08 am }

Yes! I’m all about an emphasis on the save. Can’t even really tell the difference.

Oh, and they’re way cute.

44 Taylor { 08.20.09 at 9:17 am }

Def. a save situation. I posted about simliar shoes last night from Aldo’s and bought them. So, it is a mjor must! ;) xxTay

45 Taylor { 08.20.09 at 9:40 am }

I like the Aldo’s more than the YSL. GASP! Def save.

46 Alianna { 08.20.09 at 9:42 am }

Definitely save. I like the YSL’s and the Aldo ones aren’t exact, but leather lasts WAY longer than suede. In 3 years, the Aldo’s will still be a good purchase and the YSL while classic may not be.

47 corinna { 08.20.09 at 9:59 am }

i’d buy the aldo booties, because of the little buckle, but $140 would still be a bit too much for me ;)

48 Carolann { 08.20.09 at 10:20 am }

SAVE!!! – if you got the splurge, the fabric-y lining would get all wet and STINK STINK STINK. And who wants to worry about boots getting wet…

49 southern hostess { 08.20.09 at 10:24 am }

Great find! I’m glad you bought them.

50 The Pinky Files { 08.20.09 at 10:47 am }

I would totally save in this situation, but I am very rough on my shoes…and the YSL price would cover 75% of my monthly bills if not all of them. The ALDO’s also remind me of the YSL tribute booties and that’s a bonus =)

51 stylefyles { 08.20.09 at 10:51 am }

Save! Plus you can throw a quick coat of black paint to the inside of that Aldo heel to make it even closer to the real deal!

52 Rachel (Heart of Light) { 08.20.09 at 11:09 am }

I actually like the Aldo’s better! Nice find.

53 Wanderlusting { 08.20.09 at 11:43 am }

ALDO all the way. I like it better too and also there really isn’t anything distinctive about the YSLs…If I had to spend that much, I would rather get the yellow-soled tributes from last year!!

54 fashionista { 08.20.09 at 12:07 pm }

love both booties

55 eyeliah { 08.20.09 at 12:08 pm }

wow, Aldo has been copying so many styles lately. The original is way better.

56 justine { 08.20.09 at 12:47 pm }

Ohh… totally crave (ok and not that I would have the money, but if one did…). Black booties like that are timeless- the Aldo ones would be replaced in a year, while the YSL ones are for life. If this were a bigger trend, I’d say save. :)

57 Neira { 08.20.09 at 12:49 pm }

definitely love the save version better, the bottom of the platforms just looks so much more comfortable, great choice!

xoxo

58 Darrah { 08.20.09 at 12:53 pm }

How silly to pay so much more for such a subtle difference in design.

59 All Women Stalker { 08.20.09 at 1:32 pm }

The “mouth” of the YSL ones are great. But the price, yikes.

-meream

60 Jen Tarte { 08.20.09 at 1:33 pm }

The YSLs are amazing, but the price is wayyy crazy. But seeing that you already bought the Aldo ones…good choice!

61 Erin { 08.20.09 at 1:44 pm }

I think it kind of depends. I wear the heck out of my black booties, which happen to be Aldo. Because they are cheaper they are uncomfortable and already falling apart after one winter season. It you can afford to splurge for durability reasons, I would go for it.

62 modernmommablog { 08.20.09 at 2:11 pm }

I spend on classics and really, the bootie is pretty trendy. I love both versions but if I were to buy one it would be the Aldo.

63 Jacqueline { 08.20.09 at 2:11 pm }

I have been reading your blog for a while now and I love it. This is my first comment. I think you should always go or the Italian ones. Save up or wait for a markdown. It is better to have a few high quality pairs of shoes than a bunch of lower quality. Get both!

64 Erin { 08.20.09 at 2:42 pm }

i love the suade accent on the YSLs, but let’s be honest, definitely a save situation.
you wear a lot of really high heels, have you just gotten used to them, or do you have some secret to wearing them all the time?

65 Courtney { 08.20.09 at 3:38 pm }

The ankle around the YSL looks like it would be a little more comfortable, but comfort for that price? Definetly Aldo.

66 Lexie { 08.20.09 at 3:46 pm }

Save!

67 hanako66 { 08.20.09 at 4:12 pm }

totally save! thank you so much for finding those aldos…..they are close to what I have been on the hunt for!

68 Lainey { 08.20.09 at 4:31 pm }

The YSL’s are stunning, no doubt about that. But man, that is would hurt my wallet. And I’ll always think-”that’s 4 outfits!” or “5 pairs of jeans!” The Aldos would satisfy my black booties ideal. I think it’s just as gorgeous with just the right price.

69 Tink { 08.20.09 at 4:56 pm }

I would love to afford the YSL’s!!! I would have to settle for the Aldos though much more budget friendly!

70 buyergal { 08.20.09 at 5:14 pm }

crave! the aldo ones look cheap but i bet someone will soon enough come out with a better knock off.

http://buyergal.onsugar.com/

71 Joanne { 08.20.09 at 5:29 pm }

Such beautiful booties!! They’re both so wonderful! :)

72 Lauren From Texas { 08.20.09 at 5:40 pm }

save! I am always all about the save :)

73 freckles and fringe { 08.20.09 at 7:37 pm }

I just got a sweet pair you’d love from Nine West. You should check out their bootie selection as well!

74 Rachel { 08.20.09 at 9:17 pm }

save! Great find.

75 Maria { 08.20.09 at 11:10 pm }

As gorgeous as the YSL ones are, the Aldo ones also look good quality and very chic, I’d say save.
xo

76 Marley { 08.21.09 at 12:23 am }

I definitely prefer the YSL ones! Not that I can afford them, by any means, but sometimes the real thing is worth waiting for ;)

77 Patty Ann { 08.21.09 at 1:24 am }

ooooo that’s a tough one! i really like the exposed platform on the ysl’s here though! xx Patty Ann

Oeh beautifulll

79 Jen Ell's Revenge { 08.21.09 at 5:17 am }

The YSL’s are gorgeous, but I would definitely save and get the Aldo ones.

80 MH { 08.21.09 at 9:50 am }

Crave, not do I think the YSL’s are beautiful, but I with the detailing and the lower ankle, I also think that overall they will be more flattering (not that you need to pick on that basis by ANY means, it’s just the way I always think).

81 Andhari { 08.21.09 at 12:50 pm }

That YSL piece looks timeless, invest it if you have some cash to splurge I say. But that Aldo pair looks cute as well.

82 Gordita { 08.21.09 at 12:58 pm }

I actually prefer the Aldos.

83 Becca { 08.21.09 at 1:46 pm }

those YSL are amazing, but the Aldo is definitely a good budget option. Thank goodness for them!

84 Jan { 08.21.09 at 7:03 pm }

I like the Aldos but does anyone know of a lower heel alternative?

85 koko { 08.21.09 at 11:11 pm }

Definitely SAVE !

86 Amy Keeling { 08.23.09 at 2:09 am }

Save save save!

87 Erin { 08.23.09 at 8:10 am }

The Aldo’s! Aldo’s booties is perfectly comfortable, I have one and I’m loving every bit I’m wearing it :)

88 Melody { 08.23.09 at 1:52 pm }

If I had the money I would certainly buy the YSL, it looks so much more gorgeous with the trimming, and black ankle boots are such classics, you should always splurge on the best classic pieces~ ;D

89 Luxe. { 08.24.09 at 7:53 am }

I actually like the Aldo ones better, bargain!.x

90 Bargain Bex { 08.24.09 at 10:05 am }

I found my own patent leather-y ankle bootie for the upcoming winter months from my go-to bargain-y spot: Forever 21. Snatched them for under $30.

http://www.bargainbex.blogspot.com

91 Melanie { 08.24.09 at 11:44 am }

Save, Miss Thing. And take those Aldos to the cobbler and have him paint the soles black. Looks super sleek and a neat trick to make them look sexier when you flash the soles! x…..m

92 miss sophie { 08.27.09 at 9:03 am }

if you like the style long enough to keep it as a wardrobe staple, then get the YSLs! otherwise, for a quick trend fix the aldos look just fine.

93 UNordinaryChic { 08.27.09 at 9:02 pm }

SAVE!
Since this is the kind of look that will only last one or two seasons, I say go for the Aldo’s!

94 Erin { 09.01.09 at 8:30 pm }

love those, but I’m still debating the peep toe bootie phenomenon. Plus, I love these lamb booties http://www.shopbop.com/ramsey-peep-toe-booties-lamb/vp/v=1/845524441848143.htm?folderID=2534374302024643&fm=other-shopbysize-viewall

95 Carrie Goldberg { 09.01.09 at 9:34 pm }

I am having the same argument with myself between the cheapies and the Brian Atwood black leather beauties but I assume I will be making the same decision myself and saving not splurging… :(

96 katy { 09.11.09 at 2:34 pm }

You’ve probably already decided this, but I have a cute similar pair from Steven (slightly more upscale Steve Madden) that I really like! I think generally it’s better not to splurge on boots bc they get destroyed so quickly, at least in NYC where you’re walking everywhere…

97 Kate { 01.12.10 at 2:23 am }

I would definitely go with the Aldo Booties on this one, I don’t like the smaller platform under the platform..not my thing…
