Crave or Save

blazers.jpg

Spring weather can be tricky.   We’ve all been there.  You show up to a beach barbecue with not a cloud in the sky only to find that moments later, you’re covered in goosebumps and your skin has turned a lovely shade of purplish blue.  To avoid situations like these, blazers are my go-to choice for looking polished and warm.  The  little rolled up sleeves on the ABS version are right up my alley, but for nearly $300, it’s just a bit of a stretch.  Necessary Objects‘s version (which has been seen on Lauren Conrad) is nearly identical with just right amount of I-stole-this-from-my-boyfriend-charm but with the tailoring fit for a girl.

What’s your take – crave or save?

saaaaaaaave! or go vintage! but that ABS is definitely yummm.

2 kirsty { 06.10.09 at 1:56 am }

Definately the necessary objects one xoxox

3 miriam { 06.10.09 at 2:15 am }

the sleeves of the ABS version is gorgeous!

SAVE :)

SAVE!! I’ve been looking for a cute boyfriend blazer that doesn’t cost hundreds, and this one looks awesome.

I was tempted to get it and I saw that you can enter luckybreaks7 at checkout for 35% off!!

DO IT, EMILY!

Necessary Objects’s, no está mal de precio.
xoxox

7 JGeb { 06.10.09 at 3:53 am }

Save!!

8 Modelmental { 06.10.09 at 4:43 am }

Save! So you can wear it to death and then not feel bad to move on to another shape/style of jacket next season? I got a VERY similar one at Zara for about the same price as the NO one, been wearing it non-stop, so necessary!

9 Alianna { 06.10.09 at 4:53 am }

The only thing I like better on the ABS version is the stripe on the rolled up sleeve. Otherwise, I like the tailoring on the Necessary Objects waaaaaay better. I’d go for the save.

10 Melissa { 06.10.09 at 4:54 am }

Definitely a SAVE situation.

11 real style real people { 06.10.09 at 4:57 am }

go for the save-this trend may not last!

12 PS~Erin { 06.10.09 at 5:03 am }

Save… I am partial to the three button on a man, but I think a girl can pull off either. I love the look!

13 Talk Pretty To Me { 06.10.09 at 5:24 am }

SAVE! I actually like the Necessary Objects blazer better!

i like the save much better

15 nikki { 06.10.09 at 5:51 am }

I agree, save. Love your site btw.

16 Christina { 06.10.09 at 5:56 am }

Personally, I like things that are more fitted anyways, even if they are meant to look slightly boyish. Also, this is a trendy buy, ask yourself if you think the trend will last long enough to purchase the more expensive option. I do however think the details on the ABS are divine.

17 Katie { 06.10.09 at 6:01 am }

Hmm, the Necesary Objects size small is on backorder. Anyone know how the fit of this blazer is?

18 Chaucee { 06.10.09 at 6:06 am }

I actually like the save jacket better then the crave!

19 TheBeautyFile { 06.10.09 at 6:08 am }

Totally save….I am so glad you posted this…I have been on a black blazer hunt to no avail!

20 Arlynn from Fleur De-Licious { 06.10.09 at 6:13 am }

I vote for the save – I actually prefer the length & it’s so similar you’ll still be able to create some fantastic ensembles with it : )

I’m already pictureing it matched with a s=pair o ftime yellow shorts & a sassy scarf, just for that feminine touch!

Lovely.

21 Lauren From Texas { 06.10.09 at 6:17 am }

Save!! I am all about the saving. :)

22 Sarah { 06.10.09 at 6:29 am }

Definitely the save. I bought a Theory one just like it for $50 on sale! If you can find a staple that great under $100, go for it! Plus- Can’t go wrong with Lauren Conrad’s taste and it looks like it will be more flattering than the ABS.

23 Sal { 06.10.09 at 6:53 am }

Save! That ABS silhouette is going to be out of style in seconds, and the Necessary Objects version is actually a classic cut.

24 Lizzy { 06.10.09 at 6:58 am }

I second the Zara suggestion. I got one that’s almost identical to the ABS version and have worn it almost non-stop. There’s a huge selection of gorgeous blazers there for seriously bargain prices.

25 Kaffy { 06.10.09 at 7:08 am }

Not sure if you have checked Topshop out for the blazer, but they have one that might be right up your alley. I tried this one on at the store and its so nice for summer being a linen material which also makes it quite comfortable. And the price is not bad either.

26 steph { 06.10.09 at 7:10 am }

thanks so much for pointing out a blazer that’s under 100! i’ve been looking all over for one i like that won’t break the bank, and this is perfect. :-)

27 The Lil Bee { 06.10.09 at 7:12 am }

In this case, I think save. It’s really cute and it looks like it’s a bit shorter (though that may just be the photo), which I think will work well with shorts and dresses. Plus, you won’t feel so guilty when you spill lemonade or your white wine spritzer on it!

28 Snapshot Fashion { 06.10.09 at 7:17 am }

i think the save one is way cuter!

29 Carlene { 06.10.09 at 7:47 am }

SAVE!!! That way you can buy some cute shoes and an awesome statement necklace to go with that hot blazer! Hollar! :)

30 southern hostess { 06.10.09 at 7:57 am }

Save! That is a great find.

31 chicfaced { 06.10.09 at 8:00 am }

save! the cut seems a little more modern – shorter, less boxy.

32 Amanda { 06.10.09 at 8:03 am }

I also would recommend the Zara’s boyfriend blazer (about $80). I just bought it and its a great combination of both the ABS and Necessary Objects blazers. It has the great striped detailing when you roll up the sleeves but with a more fitted look because it only has one button.

33 Amanda Lalique { 06.10.09 at 8:16 am }

Save! It’s actually cuter and more flattering…. my fave blazer right now is from the Row but wayyy too expensive.

34 Ashley Kosher { 06.10.09 at 8:26 am }

Definitely save. The Necessary Objects blazer is way cuter!

35 K. { 06.10.09 at 8:55 am }

I like the cheaper one better.

36 Kirsten { 06.10.09 at 9:13 am }

I also say check out Zara, went in there the other day and found one almost identical to the ABS blazer.

37 Anne @ The City Sage { 06.10.09 at 9:13 am }

Definitely crave—a piece like this has to fit perfectly, and when it comes to fit, you definitely get what you pay for!

But I agree that if you can find a vintage one that fits well, go for that! Takes a lot of searching, of course, but worth it to score that gem!

38 sharon rose { 06.10.09 at 9:20 am }

Hi there-as long as the cheaper one is still good quality material, I say go for the Necessary Objects one!

39 Andhari { 06.10.09 at 9:33 am }

SAVE> :) The cheaper one look better, although the ABS one has those stripes. But those can easily be achieved by wearing long sleeve shirts.

40 stephanie h { 06.10.09 at 10:14 am }

hrm, good question! if you can tell the difference in quality, then i’d have to go with crave. if there’s not much contrast in the quality and cut, then it’s a definite save! =)

41 Rachel (Heart of Light) { 06.10.09 at 10:17 am }

I actually think I like the ABS one a little better! Score.

42 Meream { 06.10.09 at 10:34 am }

The collar of the cheaper one looks way better. SAVE definitely.

43 natalie { 06.10.09 at 11:21 am }

you can save even more – i found a blazer just like this at target last season for something silly like $20. even has the turned up sleeves with a cream eyelet fabric. score!

44 Rachel { 06.10.09 at 11:28 am }

I actually like the cut of the NO much better. It seems a touch more feminine, which I prefer. SAVE!

45 Haute Whimsy { 06.10.09 at 11:31 am }

I’m going with save! Such a good idea to keep warm!

46 Butterfly { 06.10.09 at 11:41 am }

Definately agree with the tricky weather situation and layering really does help. Love the blazers, great way to look smart and stay warm…love the whole oversized, stolen from the boyfriend look :)

47 brandi { 06.10.09 at 12:35 pm }

SAVE! <3

48 thischicksgotstyle { 06.10.09 at 12:36 pm }

Definately my style philosophy with this weather too!
I also think a black blazer doesn’t have to be that expensive, so it think save!

x!

49 Cafe Fashionista { 06.10.09 at 12:42 pm }

Save, save, save!

50 cindy khor { 06.10.09 at 12:47 pm }

i think the crave version is better. it looks more classy and have to elegant feeling to it (or maybe its just me), but i do think the suit looks sharper. and 300 for a blazer is well worth the price.

51 hanako66 { 06.10.09 at 1:55 pm }

I actually like the save better this time!

52 Chessa! { 06.10.09 at 1:56 pm }

I prefer the save. I actually like the cut more…it looks more feminine and the length makes me think that it’s better for summer than the other one. The Crave one is great but I feel like it belong with the matching pants as a suit…the other one you could dress up with slacks, wear it with jeans or a little dress and it would all work.

53 Wanderlusting { 06.10.09 at 2:14 pm }

I say save, because I like it better than the pricey one. The cut is slimmer and the cuffs aren’t as long :)

54 Heidi { 06.10.09 at 2:28 pm }

The save looks a little boxy, but I’m sure that could be downplayed with a belt or some other styling tricks. Now I’m on the lookout for a blazer!

55 Tina Gold { 06.10.09 at 2:40 pm }

Yeah I agree save looks boxy..ill go vintage!!!

Hey Emily and ladies i just started a blog showcasing my jewels…

56 Savannah { 06.10.09 at 2:58 pm }

I’ve been searching for a boyfriend blazer like this for a while and the nicest inexpensive ones I’ve come across have been from Zara. They look identical to the ABS one, including the stripes on the cuffs. I would say save in this situation because this trend may not last until next year.

57 AJ { 06.10.09 at 3:22 pm }

Save. A slouchy boyfriend blazer actually is very forgiving in fit and fabric so you don’t have to pay more for a great, cute look. I bought a very similar blazer at Target earlier this year for only $13! AND ITS AMAZING. Absolutely adorable.

58 Chelsea { 06.10.09 at 3:49 pm }

Aqua has a great one out there right now, and if you want another crave option, Theory also has an extremely similar one.

My vote goes for the save.

59 Diabolina { 06.10.09 at 3:55 pm }

save. or buy resale.

I’m all for the save!! Love how it’s shaped!

61 Tiffany { 06.10.09 at 5:49 pm }

Neither! I actually DO just steal from my boyfriend. Oh, the shame…

62 Steph { 06.10.09 at 8:44 pm }

I was at JCPenney earlier today and ABS has a line there called Allen B. I saw a jacket that looks similar to the ABS one on clearance for $35. Plus their clearance is an additional 20% off.

63 kristy { 06.11.09 at 12:59 am }

definitely the save. the best place to find blazers is the thrift store! i found the perfect black fitted blazer in the little boys section!

64 Gato { 06.11.09 at 7:15 am }

I actually bought the NO jacket after seeing this post and It came in this morning! I have to say, its got a perfect striped lining and fits well. It came in one day even though I selected ground shipping, and its made in the USA! Its nice to support American jobs when possible. All and all, I highly recommend this jacket. Thanks for sharing it with me.

65 Sara { 06.11.09 at 12:15 pm }

I love the ABS one (and this style in general). But if you’re looking for a cheaper version, I recommend H&M. I was just there the other day and bought a blazer almost identical to the ABS one for $40. Only difference is the lining is black!

66 Alya { 06.11.09 at 2:34 pm }

SAVE. I like it better actually.

67 Michelle (PinQue) { 06.11.09 at 5:57 pm }

SAVE, love that one!

68 Joli { 06.12.09 at 5:08 am }

Don´t buy either. Buy vintage…you will find better quality material and for less than either of those.

69 Kristin @ Contented Me { 06.12.09 at 7:41 am }

SAVE!!

70 jamieofalltrades { 06.14.09 at 10:39 pm }

Save! I like the save style better anyway.

71 Jen { 06.18.09 at 1:31 am }

I just picked up a similar one by Zara, it was 60 Euros over here. It’s very soft and also has the striped lining when you roll up the sleeves.
P.S. Love your blog!
