Cosmetic Clutter

April 26th, 2011

{before}

Given my love of cosmetics, you’d think that I’d have a bathroom drawer that rivaled Sephora in both its scope and organization. Definitely not the case. I even questioned whether or not to include my “before” picture, simply because it was so mortifying (confession: I even removed a few items before snapping the shot).

The other day it took me five minutes to locate a lip gloss, at which point I realized I had to clean things up. I owned doubles and triples of the same item; some of which had been dried up for years. There were eye shadows from college, pieces of trash and used Q-tips; in short, it was disgusting. I decided to create divided sections for eyes, lips, bronzers, cheeks and foundation/powders and only kept the items that I love and actually use.

{after}

{old dividers that I spray painted a glossy gold}

{Dividers for: powders, bronzers and eye make-up}

{Dividers for: lips, cheeks and skin; as well as a few other necessities}

{Vintage saucers now hold bobby pins and rubber bands}

P.S. You can see other organization posts here and here.

    I love this! But I must confess that I am still holding on to my caboodle…can’t seem to cut the cord on that one.

    I don’t at the moment own any makeup really … but as I build my collection I’ll keep your organization here in mind.

    Oh… the golden spray… great idea. It looks great :)

    I love this idea! And I love your blog. It brightens my day, every day. Where did you get the plastic containers that you organize with? I looked for them all day at the mall but I couldn’t find them.. any help?

    That is one of the worse makeup collections I have ever seen! Glad you got organized. I bought a Lucite make up container at containers.com and it has kept me on top of my small collection. I never buy more then one of something so my collection is small and I like it that way because its manageable. I throw everything out every 6 months and mascara goes every 3 months. It holds my MAC brush collection as well as all my makeup and looks clean, organized and nice. .

    Hi there :) I’m new to the site ( and love it ! <3) and realize that this is on old post but I just saw the " Tan Towels" advertised and was wondering if they are any good. I love the after pics! I wish I could keep my collection so neat.

    I love the idea of using saucers or small bowls to hold little items! I’ve used it in my makeup collection, to hold paperclips at my work desk, and even for birthday candles in the kitchen. It’s more useful than plastic bags and prettier than plastic container.

    I am planning on some re-organising of my room. So this is great right now as I have 2 large drawers full of make up! I love it so much!!! I have a few pretty cups and saucers that I dont use so I could use them too… Thanks for the tips! xx Kitty
