Clueless

After I read this on Perez Hilton yesterday, I dusted off my Clueless DVD to revisit some of the trends that made the movie so special.  I’m still undecided on whether a remake would be a good idea, but it was fun to see how one of my favorite parts of the movie has become a reality.

closet.jpg

Remember Cher’s virtual closet that picked out her daily outfits?  Closet is a new app available for the iPhone and iPod Touch that helps categorize your clothing so that getting dressed in the morning is a snap.  Whether you use it to separate your wardrobe into sections (I’m thinking bubble skirts, tulip skirts, pencil skirts…you get the idea) or tag pieces as favorites, it’s a great way to save time and keep tabs on what’s in your closet.  Now if only I could get my hands on a yellow plaid skirt suit, I’d be set.

Sometimes I wish I had an iPhone just to get all the cool apps.

4 candice { 04.24.09 at 2:04 am }

and after that you still gotta try it on to see if it actually works or not lol!

That sounds like an amazing app! I’m with Steph :) I always wanted Cher’s closet!

I’m really undecided about this. I love the film, but I dunno how good it’ll be when she’s 15 years older ….hmmmmm.

Whaaaa? A Clueless remake? Of course I’ll have to see it, but I’m not sure how good this is going to turn out.

Anyways, that app is supercool!

9 paula { 04.24.09 at 5:23 am }

of course I would probably watch it again, but remakes are never quite as good. I always wished for Cher’s closet when I was a teen:)

oh wow, it’s too bad my blackberry can’t do this!

11 Lynne, Tea for Joy { 04.24.09 at 5:40 am }

I loved Clueless – what a blast from the past!

12 Sal { 04.24.09 at 5:56 am }

Brilliant. Utterly brilliant. And just makes me lust for an iPhone all the harder.

13 Sarah { 04.24.09 at 6:06 am }

I remember repeating lines from Clueless over and over. And I’ll always be appreciative because that movie introduced me to delicious Paul Rudd. I think if it was written well, and all of the original stars were back, it might be a good thing. I’m always interested in seeing what happens after the story ends anyway.

14 Thao { 04.24.09 at 6:15 am }

Yes! This is amazing. I love Cher’s closet and this modern manifestation. (I wore a yellow plaid skirt yesterday and pretended I was Cher for a little bit, but sadly, I no longer had a fluffy pink pen to brandish coquettishly.)

15 Melanie { 04.24.09 at 6:24 am }

Sounds like a great app! If only my own closet would rotate like Cher’s!

16 Laura { 04.24.09 at 6:48 am }

OK, I may have to get an iPhone just for that app. I loved Clueless when I was younger!

17 cari { 04.24.09 at 6:49 am }

LOL Sounds like a new fun thing to do while attempting to remove myself from my bed in the morning. xo Cari http://isnotfashion.blogspot.com

18 J. Rene' { 04.24.09 at 6:52 am }

That is fantastic! I don’t think it could be as good, but….. And that app is great, I would love to know if it works well or not.

19 City Girl { 04.24.09 at 6:53 am }

Clueless is such a blast from the past for me – when I watched Mean Girls I had flashbacks of Clueless too come to think of it.

20 Lisi { 04.24.09 at 7:24 am }

This is kind of AMAZING! I am so glad I saw this- it’s being downloaded asap! Love!

21 Michelle { 04.24.09 at 7:30 am }

What a fun idea! Too bad none of my clothes have massive shoulder pads or color coordinated scrunchies like Cher…

22 Caroline { 04.24.09 at 7:35 am }

I’m going to have to get that app pronto!

23 freeteyme { 04.24.09 at 7:48 am }

heaven sent! hopefully this will help save me some time figuring out what to wear =)

24 mina { 04.24.09 at 7:52 am }

I think it’s hilarious that you have clueless on DVD…. I have to go dig out the VHS! I’m going to have to go along with the general consensus here and say that I need that application as well!

25 Lexie { 04.24.09 at 7:57 am }

i have seen clueless 3482489327 times. AND that iphone app is totally brilliant.

26 Becs { 04.24.09 at 8:05 am }

Genius concept.. can they make it for non iphone users?! Hmm… but really, that is one of my FAILS in the a.m. — finding an outfit when I’m running around in the morning. Gotta love technology.

Wow, if I had the iPhone, this is an app I would most definitely use. Please say it’s free, right?

28 hauteworld { 04.24.09 at 8:54 am }

I remember my best friend and I used to be obsessed with these looks. Ahh, the knee-high socks. If I had an iPhone this would probably be the first app I’d get. I tend to forget what I have in my closet…

29 Vanessa { 04.24.09 at 9:12 am }

I do believe Perez sent thousands and thousands of 20-something girls into a tizzy with that post. If the movie actually happens, I think I might die.

30 Rachel (Heart of Light) { 04.24.09 at 9:46 am }

That is so funny that they have a closet app! I’m torn about a remake too. I mean, could anything ever make the brilliance of the original?

31 Julia { 04.24.09 at 9:52 am }

I’m a little unsure as to whether a remake is a good idea, too :) I would love to see you in a yellow plaid suit!

32 Couture Carrie { 04.24.09 at 10:03 am }

OMG I am totally getting that app! Btw, looooooove Clueless and would totally support a sequel!

GENIUS!!

34 mel { 04.24.09 at 10:24 am }

I’ve been anti-iphone (even though I am a hardcore mac lover) but this is one app that make it all worth it.

35 issa { 04.24.09 at 10:28 am }

now i just need an iphone

36 Budget Babe { 04.24.09 at 10:39 am }

Yet another reason why I desperately NEED an iPhone! yes, NEED not want hehe

37 Lainey { 04.24.09 at 10:43 am }

How awesome is that?!!! I wish I had an iphone to get my hands on that program. It usually takes me an hour to decide what to wear.

38 jamieofalltrades { 04.24.09 at 10:48 am }

OMG! What an amazing idea. I love, love, loved that part in the movie when she picked out her clothes in the morning. I wanted that closet so bad. Now I can have… well, sort of. Thanks for sharing!

39 Vanessa { 04.24.09 at 10:53 am }

I think you’ve officially made my day! I had no idea they had something like that! ;)

40 Sara { 04.24.09 at 10:58 am }

love it! another reason i want the iphone. I am so going to have to match that movie again!

41 Jen { 04.24.09 at 11:13 am }

Oh wow! I need that app for my G1! My closet is large and completely out of control :(

42 Carissa { 04.24.09 at 11:39 am }

I’m not too sure about a Clueless sequel, but I absolutely loved the first! And her closet in the movie was amazing– I would need that app if I had that many clothes! alas, my closet isn’t that big… and I don’t have an iPhone

43 danika { 04.24.09 at 11:56 am }

I didn’t know they were making a sequel. I would love to see that!

44 Clarity { 04.24.09 at 12:00 pm }

Remakes are the new film movement of 2000’s. I want to remake “Alice in Wonderland” – and yes the clothes would look fab in it, I ought to invite you as a Costume Advisor.

Speaking of Yellow Plaid Skirt suits, I came across this one, perhaps you can get someone to tailor it better (much better):

46 Kristin @ Contented Me { 04.24.09 at 1:18 pm }

What a cool app!

I loved Cher’s closet…

47 Cafe Fashionista { 04.24.09 at 1:30 pm }

I’ve always coveted that yellow plaid suit skirt that Cher donned in Clueless. Maybe we should simply create one ourselves?

48 hanako66 { 04.24.09 at 2:03 pm }

what! that is amazing…thank you for showing me this app! I always dreamed of having a closet like Cher’s….it is the reason that I started photographing my outfits and making an album on my computer which got me into this whole blogging thing:)

49 Wanderlusting { 04.24.09 at 2:18 pm }

I JUST blogged about this a month ago, wanting some sort of gizmo that would be like Cher’s closet and voila! Thanks SO much for bringing this to my attention Emily – now, to just get an iPhone :P

50 Wanderlusting { 04.24.09 at 2:20 pm }

OK – definitely getting an iPod touch ASAP!

51 Nicole Marie { 04.24.09 at 2:35 pm }

oh i so need this application! My roommate and I are sharing my tiny closet and it’s very difficult to find anything it it!

52 Chessa { 04.24.09 at 4:19 pm }

omg–I loved that movie. loved. now I need that ipod touch:) my NYC closet is so tiny and such a mess…I long for the day when I can walk into it and see everything. it’s good to dream, no?
happy Friday!
:)

53 AML { 04.24.09 at 5:22 pm }

Now that is fantastic. Hopefully they will soon make the app for a blackberry! And an app for my office now that needs some organizing love.

54 Carissa { 04.24.09 at 10:23 pm }

just a short p.s.

I gave you a blog award on my blog today. just cuz I love your blog!

happy weekend!

55 Tart { 04.24.09 at 10:50 pm }

I have had this conversation come up so often with the Sisterly Figure – Cher’s outfit organiser was something every girl would dream of having. There are quite a few different outfit organiser programs/apps out there, but none to truly live up the to killer standard Cher’s set. I STILL YEARN FOR ONE JUST LIKE IT.

56 Melanie { 04.24.09 at 11:20 pm }

And let my remind you, it does not say RSVP on the Statue of Liberty.

57 Anika { 04.25.09 at 2:42 am }

Oooh, that is uber cool in a cliched 80s way. I’d go there, hell yeah.

Lol, if I had an iphone. I guess I’ll just have to rely on instinct and rummaging through the closet for now :)

Have a lovely weekend.

58 sharon rose { 04.25.09 at 3:50 am }

Hi there-what a fabulous idea!! Have a lovely weekend my dear!

60 thischicksgotstyle { 04.25.09 at 6:04 am }

Hahah, I loved that movie! I’m not thrilled about the idea of a remake, they are hardly ever as good as the originals!
And I think I´m going to make a sangria like yours today!

Oh my gosh, awesome! I’m studying computer science and I mentioned this in my (male-dominated) class one day. Love it!

62 Courtney { 04.25.09 at 1:15 pm }

right now I’m looking over at my closet with clothes quite literally flowing out of doors that are unable to shut, dreaming of Cher’s closet. Sigh.

Thanks for letting us all in on the app!

63 Vivian { 04.25.09 at 2:10 pm }

I dreamed of that application since the days of Clueless- thanks for sharing!! And the sequel…. hmmm…. I usually don’t believe in them, but I’m dying to know what Cher is up to these days ;)

64 andhari { 04.26.09 at 6:57 am }

I remember that yellow plaid outfit she wore when she picked up Dionne. I’m loving clueless!

65 Dingo { 04.26.09 at 8:12 am }

That app would be incredible but a bit useless for me. There are only so many combinations for black tees and jeans.

66 Clare { 04.26.09 at 8:12 am }

Ahh! I love this! I just watched Clueless the other week and remembered how awesome it is.

67 Kristin { 04.26.09 at 8:58 am }

So, I totally need an Iphone!! I am still hooked on my Blackberry, but I believe it may be time to upgrade!! That app is so cute!!

68 S.Elisabeth { 04.26.09 at 11:05 am }

nonononononono no WAY should they EVER make a remake. That is an awful idea; like trying to remake Gone With the Wind or Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Epic failure if ever attempted.
Now that virtual closet idea is amazing. Too bad I have neither the Ipod touch or phone =( But that was always my favorite part of the movie when she gets ready in the morning

69 Jules { 04.26.09 at 6:56 pm }

Thanks for posting this.;D
Looking forward on your next post.;D
