Classic Doughnuts

August 11th, 2010

When it comes to dessert, I’m really not picky.  Sure, I have my favorites (they’re starred on this page), but it’s rare that I’ll ever turn down an opportunity to have something sweet.   Doughnuts have never been a top contender among cookies and cupcakes, but on the rare occasion that I’m craving one with a cup of coffee, there’s nothing better.  Ever since I mastered the art of frying (with these and these), I’ve been wanting to try my hand at classic doughnuts with a chocolate glaze.  I’ll admit that they took an entire afternoon, but even with the threat of scalding oil, annoyingly sticky dough and the fact that my apartment still smells of grease, they were truly fantastic.

  29. Your doughnuts are perfect! I’ve been waiting for the right time to make The Pioneer Woman’s doughnuts. I’m thinking of making them mini size (since everything is cuter that way) and putting a pink glaze on them–Starbucks style.

  36. oh my good gosh. YUM.

  37. yum. a girlfriend used to make powdered doughnuts in her little fryer. hmmm i miss her…!

  38. In my family, it is a special treat to make donuts, but we make them out of biscuits from a can! It sounds strange, but all you do is use the biscuits you get from the grocery in the cold section. You fry those, and then you have to sprinkle powdered sugar on them. My grandpa was a machinist, and he even made a special metal cookie cutter to cut out the “holes.”

(love your blog! very refreshing to read after a day at work!)

    Yours,
    Katie

  42. You are brilliant…simply brilliant.

  43. it find this so ridiculous, .. all american websites have same recipes. panckaes, granola stuff, burgers, everything sprinkled with stuff with no flavor and bunch of chemicals. people if you want to eat good stuff, go to whatever european country! your food looks good, but tastes like a piece of plastic.
