Classic Doughnuts

When it comes to dessert, I’m really not picky.  Sure, I have my favorites (they’re starred on this page), but it’s rare that I’ll ever turn down an opportunity to have something sweet.   Doughnuts have never been a top contender among cookies and cupcakes, but on the rare occasion that I’m craving one with a cup of coffee, there’s nothing better.  Ever since I mastered the art of frying (with these and these), I’ve been wanting to try my hand at classic doughnuts with a chocolate glaze.  I’ll admit that they took an entire afternoon, but even with the threat of scalding oil, annoyingly sticky dough and the fact that my apartment still smells of grease, they were truly fantastic.

76 Becca { 08.11.10 at 7:14 am }

Oh wow! I’m seriously impressed (and feeling inspired!) I may give these a shot, but making doughnut holes – how fun would that be to serve at the end of a dinner party? I’d have to experiment I think with some combination of cinnamon and spice.

I can’t imagine having the time to make doughnuts, though! Perhaps that is because I am now a mom with two young children. Even so….how do you find the time to do all these creative and expansive baking and craft projects? I mean, don’t things like cleaning, laundry, and life get in the way? If this is what a career in blogging is all about, I think that will be my next career move! LOL

omg. i don’t think you read ltj, but i posted a couple of weeks back about how donuts were literally everywhere – in my face – all the time. so i had some donut holes that were just ok – kind of fake tasting – so my donut craving has yet to subside. this just made it a little worse. homemade donuts? i thought i was doing good to make waffles with my new stupid-proof waffle maker. i’m impressed. and craving a donut. and on weight watchers. so up a creek without a paddle some may say. good job!

Your doughnuts are perfect! I’ve been waiting for the right time to make The Pioneer Woman’s doughnuts. I’m thinking of making them mini size (since everything is cuter that way) and putting a pink glaze on them–Starbucks style.

181 Rachel { 08.12.10 at 11:57 pm }

Wooow! These doughnuts looks so amazing and delicious! They looks so perfect!

oh my good gosh. YUM.

188 Lauren N { 08.19.10 at 1:46 pm }

yum. a girlfriend used to make powdered doughnuts in her little fryer. hmmm i miss her…!

189 Katie { 08.19.10 at 3:16 pm }

In my family, it is a special treat to make donuts, but we make them out of biscuits from a can! It sounds strange, but all you do is use the biscuits you get from the grocery in the cold section. You fry those, and then you have to sprinkle powdered sugar on them. My grandpa was a machinist, and he even made a special metal cookie cutter to cut out the “holes.”

(love your blog! very refreshing to read after a day at work!)

Yours,
Katie
