Chocolate-Covered Orange Peels
November 30th, 2010
For the next week or so I’ll be avoiding jeans, tight tops and snug skirts, thanks to one massive Thanksgiving meal (and several helpings of leftovers). Since I don’t operate well without sugar though, I won’t be cutting it out completely. Enter: chocolate-covered candied orange peels (recipe here). They’re bright and bitter, but pleasantly so, and a refreshing way to end a meal. Bonus: they make an extra sweet gift if packaged up in a cellophane bag and tied with a ribbon (as would these, these and these).

Those look amazing!

never heard of something like this but definitely willing to try it

You know that tingly feeling in the mouth when seeing or smelling something sour? This just gave me a delicious version of that. Looks amazing. Gotta get me some fresh oranges.
I LOVE chocolate-covered candied orange peels. I worked at a candy store in college and once a customer came in asking for these. We didn’t carry them. She told me that the candy store in the shopping village down the hill from campus sold them, so I walked down there to get some. I still go there to get them–14 years later.
I will have to try my hand at these (I’m usually banned from the kitchen. A self-imposed ban.) Thanks for sharing!
wow, what a fantastic idea for a low cal chocolate-y snack. can’t wait to try the recipe!

wow, nice! I am already drool over!
They look delicious! I think it may be a good for me. I want to try it now.
i have never liked the orange chocolate in the stores but can’t wait to try these!!
With the risk of an angry mob coming after me….Orange Peels? Really? I’m not sure the sweetest chocolate could ever cover up the bitterness of an orange peel.
I much prefer cookies, dipped in chocolate.
I much prefer cookies dipped in chocolate too, but when you want something a little lighter, these are a great alternative. Plus, they’re not bitter after you boil them (twice) in water and soak them in a sugar solution for an hour.
i love the idea to give these as a little gift! a little cellophane bag perched atop a present or on it’s own is perfection… have you ever tried any other types of peels? lemons/limes/grapefruit? could make things a little more colorful… i will definitely be trying this out

Weird! I did not know you could make the peel taste good enough to eat. This is a great way to use peels.
Hmm.. I don’t know if I’d go so far as to make these, but if I was presented with one, I might try it.

A good tip is to boil them, and then roll them in a bit of sugar before you dip them in the chocolate. The harshest part of the bitterness disappears and they’re a lot softer to chew

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
This how you call Chocolate-Covered Orange Peels it’s originally from my country Croatia, city Dubrovnik. We call it arancini. Old ladies made this for Christmas, st.Nicholas and st. Lucy. It’s delicious!
I will do them right now! love such things!

I tried this recipe last night, and it turned out wonderfully! Such a neat idea. Thank you for the inspiration… these are going to make great Christmas treats!
These are Christmas to me. My Great-grandmother, grandmother and mother made them every year for our family. Now that tradition has passed on to me. My favorite candy of the season. <3
