Celebration Cake

January 3rd, 2012

There are certain occasions that require celebration cakes. They look like a party on a plate, with fun colors, lots of sprinkles, and each bite has the ideal amount of frosting. On the last day of 2011, I felt it a good time to bake up something special to bring us into the new year. I made a basic yellow cake (recipe here) with Magnolia Bakery’s creamy vanilla frosting (recipe here), which I promptly turned light pink with a bit of food coloring. The result was exactly what I had hoped for and was just the thing to eat right before the clock struck twelve.

  23. Emily- I know you receive tons of comments but I love to bake and have been making cakes for years. I must know, how do you get your cake layers to be so even and how do you make sure that the frosting is even between the layers and on top? Would love to know your tricks.
