Cupcakes and Cashmere

Cake Pops

December 20th, 2011

I still get giddy every time I eat a cupcake. The ritual of slowing peeling back the wrapper and savoring each bite is not something that will ever waver, regardless of whatever new confectionary creations arise. However, there’s something undeniably adorable about cake pops – balls of cake (mixed with frosting!), dipped into a layer of candy melts, all served on a little stick. I followed these instructions, but they were a lot harder than I anticipated (the balls weren’t round enough, or they would fall into the coating, or just come out all goopy and lopsided). Ultimately I was able to salvage a few that looked and tasted just right – especially with the addition of a few (edible) glittery stars.

I haven’t actually tried out what I’m going to suggest but I figured the consistency might work better than cake pops since I too have struggled with them. What about making Oreo balls into cake pops? :)

Oreo balls aren’t as sweet, easier to make, and are definitely a hit. :)

I usually make the balls, stick them into the bowl of melted white chocolate (it gets hard faster than dark chocolate) and set them back into the cookie sheet until they ‘dry’. That is the perfect point when you can grab them and stick the pop stick on them.

I love the little gold glitter addition, it’s all about “glitterizing” our cake pops! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=318032558222379&set=a.318030988222536.95304.129033803788923&type=3&theater
