Before and After: Luna’s Room

April 21st, 2010

When I first moved into our apartment, my boyfriend and I each had our own bathroom. Now I share mine with Luna. Pretty perfume bottles have been replaced with leftover cat food crumbs and the smell of jasmine candles is overpowered by kitty litter. To say that I had given up on the idea of having a cute bathroom is a major understatement.

{Before}

{After}

I finally decided that a few small changes would make a big impact. My first preference for the room was wallpaper, but since that’s a rather permanent fix for a temporary residence, I went with some patterned wall decals from blik.

{I let Luna decide where the decals should be placed}

{Applying the decals to the wall}

{On the opposite wall – green glass knobs from Anthropologie}

{An organized way to display all of my necklaces}

    Love, Love, Love wall decals!!! They make such a difference without spending too much or making such a huge commitment! Looks FAB!!!

    I used to work at Anthro and I would always wonder what people did with the LOADS of knobs they would buy (besides put them on shelving of course). Your necklace idea is adorable and a great idea!

    PS. The one commenter who asked why you don’t just share the bathroom with your boyfriend made me laugh…if she could only hear the fights I get in with my boyfriend about my makeup being everywhere or him leaving the toilet seat up!

    I really like what you have done with the bathroom, the whole project turned out well. I especially like how you had Luna help you with the decorating!

    The Knob Idea is so awesome! I use tacts right now. SO boring! How do you get the knobs to stay in the wall like that? I would love to know :) heystephj@gmail.com Thanks so much, I enjoy your awesome blog.

    I love the knobs!! I have so many long necklaces that always need a place to hang!

    This looks great! I also went with decals in my last apartment because of the temporary nature of my time there, they are lovely and for the most part come off perfectly well, but be warned, they might strip off paint! A few of mine did.

    Also? I love how those doorknobs look. I’ve been eying them on anthropologie for ages and am glad to see they look as good in use as I thought they would.

    Inspired!

    Back when I had an apartment which I shared with my cat, I had an ornate litterbox cover. It was custom-made and essentially looked like a little circus tent. You just need someone to weld a frame and then buy some fabric to create a slipcover. Mine came complete with tassels to hold back the entry. Enchanté, darling.

    Yes– love it! How did you get them to stay in the wall though? Let us know!!

    Love the necklace organization. Jewelry can be such a difficult thing to organize! I believe that since earrings, necklaces and bracelets are so beautiful, why not display them like you did? I’ve actually replaced frame backings with screen and dangle my earrings that way. This allows me to hang the frame in the living room! Jewelry as art :)

    If I had my own bathroom I’d make it as girlie as possible, even if my “tough guy” cat, Angus would share it with me. I love this. The knobs are amazing. I use a coat rack to organize my necklaces but I love this idea even more! Well done girl! I bet Luna loves it.

    I have the same question as a few people above me – love the knob look, been trying something similar myself. I rent though as well and don’t want to make holes in the wall the size that those knobs seem to require – what’s your trick?!?

    love the bliks, I’ve been eyeing a few patterns to add to my living room

    Would LOVE to know how you got the door knobs affixed to the wall. Did you glue? Did you screw? If you screwed, what type of screw did you use since it’s a different surface than a door. Thanks!

  • Marisa

    Figured out how to install the door knobs!

    I really like how you changed your bathroom! But what really amazed me is your creativity on how to put your necklaces in an organized way using doorknobs! :O I have actually considered trying it out, but I haven’t gotten the time to hang the doorknobs up :( (. Keep it up, and good luck!!
