Before and After: Luna’s Room
When I first moved into our apartment, my boyfriend and I each had our own bathroom. Now I share mine with Luna. Pretty perfume bottles have been replaced with leftover cat food crumbs and the smell of jasmine candles is overpowered by kitty litter. To say that I had given up on the idea of having a cute bathroom is a major understatement.
{Before}
{After}
I finally decided that a few small changes would make a big impact. My first preference for the room was wallpaper, but since that’s a rather permanent fix for a temporary residence, I went with some patterned wall decals from blik.
{I let Luna decide where the decals should be placed}
{Applying the decals to the wall}
{On the opposite wall – green glass knobs from Anthropologie}
{An organized way to display all of my necklaces}

I really like how you used the wall stickers! I used to have very similar ones in my old place (black tree branches with birds) and I’m hoping to decorate a new house with wall decals soon!

Ah I’d love to have a bathroom separate from my boyfriend’s… “Girl zones” are always good to have… might have to put the “two bathrooms” up on my priority list when choosing our new place!

LOVE the knob idea!

i love those knobs! super cute/functional idea–using them to hang necklaces. anthropologie always has the prettiest decorative items.
Very nice! I really like it.
I really loved how you have used decals to breathe life into the room! Well done!
turned out super cute! I have been wanting to exchange the plain white knobs on my desk drawers with similar glas ones in pretty colors but this far my boyfriend hasn’t warmed up to the idea! sooo lucky for having a separate girl-bathroom!

wow what a difference! i need to change mine soon staring a white walls in my teeny bathroom is becoming some what annoying x
Necklace display is great…wonderful idea. A cat’s bathroom makes me think of ‘Meet the Fockers’…
LOVE the way you set everything up! Are the decals removable?? They look great. I think I want birds in mine
And the glass knobs–what a great idea!
Such great inspiration!

I love your cat
and your passion for interior design.
gorgeous! I love the green knobs!
i cannot wait to buy a house and design my bathroom exactly how i want it.
Those green glass knobs are a gorgeous way to hang necklaces. I think I might steal your idea as mine always end up in a twisted knot which takes hours to untangle!

What a transformation – it looks gorgeous! I love the idea of using the glass knobs for hanging necklaces.
The door knobs/jewellery arranger is totally inspired. Beautiful green glass. Have similar ones of my cupboard but opaque. Are you making any more jewellery?
wow this looks SO good! Loving the tips especially since we just moved from a house where I had free reign into a rental where I’m not allow to paint or put holes in the walls! Your decals look great!
How cute! But if I put necklaces on the wall, my cat would literaly never stop jumping at them lol. They would be torn down by lunch.

thats so weird that you have seperate bathrooms?! why don’t you two just share and let luna have her own? I suppose it would make getting ready for work at the same time easier…
The knobs are super cute……. You really take the best pictures…..

I applaud you for the knobs! anthro has the cutest knobs! i think i might try it too (:
i love the new bathroom! being a college student and moving apartments every year i also gave up on the idea of having a cute and comfortable bathroom, living room, etc. But your little decor efforts are very inspiring and making me reconsider my previous notion. Who knew just a little decor can go so far?
I love the knobs for storing necklaces- I’ve seen people use thumbtacks before, but this is so much chicer!
Lovely bathroom! I hope Luna is very happy in there

I have these same exact decals in my bedroom. Love them!
http://www.poolovesboo.blogspot.com
That knob idea is a NEAT idea.
So cool. x
Love the necklace idea!
Don’t you just love the knobs to hang your necklaces. I did the same thing in my office – all the knobs were on sale at Anthropologie for 2.95, how could I pass that up??
Love your transformation!!
Blik’s are great, wish we could get them here! I remember it was you who first introduced them to me nearly a year ago now…I love the door knobs for the necklaces too, soo effective
the green knobs are a brilliant idea and the thoughtful addition of flowers is oh so sweet.
What a clever idea for displaying jewelry and those tulips are gorgeous!
Your bathroom certainly looks and sounds like a very interesting place, now that you share it with that cute guest, hehe…
The wall decals look great, and you’ve just gave me a very nice idea for the use of crystal knobs! Lovely display!
Am loving the knobs on the walls for necklaces (not to mention rather envious of your necklace collection!). Your creative flair is obviously not just limited to your wardrobe!
You did a great job! It looks beautiful!
The knobs are a clever alternative to sticking your necklaces in a drawer.
Also, I wish I could keep cut flowers in the house. My cats would rip them apart and eat them in 2 seconds!
I really like the fancy knobs…I never thought to use them for necklaces, but that’s great!
I was just thinking about Luna the other day. I was happy to see her in the pic. Darling bathroom!
Great job with the room. Love the knobs.. I have my necklaces hanging like that in my closet but instead on push pins. Lol

I love that she took part in the process, Em! And those green knobs are beautiful. So girly and fun:)
Wow, what an improvement! Your bathroom looks great now. The Anthropologie knobs make me happy. So cute that Luna has decorative skills.
I love the knobs! Much better than the pushpins that line my closet! I’m giving away a Lucky Brand necklace this week if you are wanting to add to your collection!
Btw…great choice on the tulips. They are ok for cats. My cat never really messes with my flowers, but I always check their toxicisity anyway.
WOW! I love these ideas!
http://www.livinglikethekings.com/
This is so frickin cool! I love the idea of your jewelry serving as a room decoration. I’m sure Luna will love this bathroom now, haha.
Good choices! But how do you keep Luna from knocking your necklaces off the knobs? I know my cat would be there 2 seconds
The pic of your cat is hilarious.
The glass knobs? Genius!
Love the green glass knobs from Anthropologie! I’ve been hanging my jewelery off of branches but I’m thinking of making the switch…Thanks for the inspiration! bubbs

wow i love the knobs as a way to decorate the room AND display your jewelry. very creative!!
I really love the way you used the knobs for your necklaces and the color of them. The picture of Luna deciding where the decal went was so cute.
The knobs as display elements? Inspired! Hopefully Luna won’t see them as playthings …
Love the decals! I just knew those knbos were from Anthro. I love looking at their collection. Glad to see them used in a cool way!
http://www.ellesees.blogspot.com
Using those pretty glass knobs to display your necklaces is genius! Serious decorating inspiration wheels turning….
That’s SUCH A GOOD IDEA about the knobs for necklaces! I need to get some for my loads and loads of necklaces. Wow, never crossed my mind! Thanks!

I love those green knobs! I’ve been looking for a good way to organize my necklaces and bracelets and I may have to invest in a few of those!
the decals were probably a great a idea because my kitties used to looove scratching wallpaper off the wall!
Love the green glass knobs!!!
Such a great idea with the necklaces! I display mine with a wire wall holder from Urban Outfitters but those knobs are just great. Love the tulips. Nice touch!
Great idea for the necklaces. May have to borrow that from you!

Yep, I too love the necklace display idea. So clever!
I love the knob idea for necklace display! I think I am going to get some knobs just like those if they are still on the website. Awesome! I love your kitty too. x

the knobs are a really cool and a nice idea!
Very creative idea with the doorknobs!
http://www.Flowerchildstyle.blogspot.com
I really like the knob usage rather than letting them be tangled in a jewelry box. Great idea!
http://seejaneworkplaylive.blogspot.com/
Ok I love those knobs from Anthropologie and have been thinking of using them on an old white dresser I have, but I never thought of using them like that. How did you fix them to the wall?
It’s amazing how little changes can have big impact. I love the knobs. I have mine necklaces displayed on hooks but the knows are so pretty!
http://glamlatte.blogspot.com
LOVE the knobs! Are they placed high enough that Luna can’t bat around the necklaces? (A friend’s kitten perished while playing with looped blind cords.) Sorry to be a downer – I’m a paranoid cat mom (to four felines)!
I second that; how did you attach them to the wall? I’ve considered this a few times but haven’t taken the time to figure out how to get them up there and staying!
genious!!
http://tresladies85.blogspot.com/
Those knobs look wonderful!! Great job!
OK wow. I know that a lot have commented on the glass knobs but they really do warrant a comment from all that see!
Using those on a wall for necklaces is [BRILLIANT]. Thank you for the inspiration. Thankfully kc has an anthropologie!! <3
totally loving your green glass knob idea. i have a crapload of necklaces to organize and you just gave me tons of inspiration so thank you!
Love what you did! They seem like little changes btut they make such a huge impact! Luna’s so cute!
xx Vivian @ http://diamondsandtulle.blogspot.com
love the doorknobs for necklace hanger idea!!! and they look so cute too!! i never know what to do with the big chunky necklaces! =)
i love the knobs to hang jewelry!
Thank you for such great inspiration! Being an apt. renter as well, I often feel a lack of motivation/inspiration to make changes since they cant really be permanent! And I was nervous decals would look tacky, but yours are fabulous and just what the room needed.
And I love the idea of the knobs as jewelry holders…I apologize if I copy that idea!
And Luna is precious (I’m checking to see if my future apt. allows cats!)
Great post. You gave me some good ideas. Do you mind me asking how much the green knobs are?
I love the way the knobs look – that’s such an original idea! I’m totally stealing it for my bathroom!

so cute Emily! I’m sure Luna will enjoy her home muchhh more;)
I did something similar with my necklaces as well, take a look: http://highfashion4less.com/2009/12/22/organization-kick/
So creative, I love the door knob idea for your necklaces! And Luna is precious….my husband and I adopted two kittens from the Lange Foundation as well and they as cute as can be!
What lovely, simple ways to make this room look great! The gorgeous emerald color of those knobs is amazing.

wow, simple good ideas can change completly a room!I would like to have more creativity…!
Wow, thanks for sharing this! I love the knob idea to hold necklaces…are those from Target by any chance?
I love the door knob idea for your necklaces, it would be a great way for exhibiting jewelry too. I bought loads of knobs on a trip to India a few years ago and hadn’t gotten around to using them yet. Thanks for that!
love the decals AND the knobs. i just moved into a new apartment (from a coop we owned to a rental) and i’m trying my best to make it special without making too many permanent changes. i bought some anthropologie knobs to fix up a dresser i bought at a thrift furniture joint on houston street. i’m thinking some decals would be uberfab in my baby’s room. thanks for the link!
http://www.lovelifeandlollipops.com
I am LOVING the knobs. My necklace “tree” is a little over crowded and tangled and this is a fantastic solution!
My cat would definitely be attacking those dangling toys though
i love the knobby necklace idea! so darn cute!
I like the way you displayed your necklaces. That is a great idea!
i love the knobs and the flowers are beautiful too!
smiles, gina
Love the transformation! Blik decals are fantastic and such a great alternative to wallpaper (which isn’t as hip looking, tbh).
You have the best little before and afters…I love that it’s really all subtle yet elegant.

The glass knobs are an adorable idea for jewelry storage!

The wall decals really did sprucing up the place! I’ve been considering some wall decals for my apartment bedroom. This made me want to take a closer look at getting some for myself
the idea of using the knobs to store your necklaces is perfection. I have been brainstorming possible ideas, but this is the right one, thanks!

I have been weary about wall decals, but yours turned out great! I love the knob idea. I replaced all of my knobs with anthro knobs, such an inexpensive way to make a delightful difference!

Those green glass knobs look great. How did you hang them?? I’m always looking for a great way to hang necklaces, this is such a pretty way to do it.
I love love love the knobs to hang necklaces solution! Will be trying this myself. I was lost on how to hang mine-thanks for the great idea! Your blog is lovely!
i love the green glass knobs… so cute.
love how you used the knobs for the necklaces. brilliant.
loving all of it, it´s like a completely new room!
i’ve done pretty much the same thing on my wall with necklaces! except i’ve got too many necklaces and not enough knobs.. yours is so much sipler and waay prettier! love the wall – such a good idea! and your cat is soo cute!!!

Love it! I blogged about jewelry displayed on Anthro knobs a while back, but never executed the plan! http://hautemamadaily.blogspot.com/2010/03/necklace-necklace-on-wall.html
May have to put up a follow-up post with some of your images to show readers how great it looks!

THAT necklace wall is a fantastic thing!
blik is such a great company! someone should have thought of those decals years ago!
http://asequindressatbreakfast.wordpress.com
I recently redid my bathroom too, and knobs from Anthro were at the top of my shopping list
Another thing I did was use lace to line the shelves of my linen cupboards and medicine cabinet – prettier than shelving paper and easier to remove.

I love this idea for the necklaces- but I’m wondering doesn’t Luna swat at them? Anything dangling is a prime target for my kitty. =( Looks cute though!!
Haha, I love when we get peeks of Luna in your blog! So adorable. And great job with the bathroom. I’ve been thinking of switching mine up too. And the necklaces are a great touch! Though did you move them from their original position? I thought I remember you had another post with hanging necklaces.
Love that picture of Luna on the toilet attacking the decal.
Hi Emily! I absolutely love your necklace idea.wow! never would have though to organize my necklace with door knobs on the wall. I will definitely have to try that out… =)
oooo…Bravo! Huge improvment. I have seen the little Anthro knobs used as jewelry hangers before too and love the look!
Bre @ http://theredbungalow.blogspot.com
Using those knobs is a fantastic idea! Looks great
i love it! i’ve never put much effort into making my bathroom very cute, but those glass knobs are just darling!
There is a little Interior Designer in you as well. Among the other things you do so well.
The bathroom looks beautiful.
How do you keep your necklaces from tarnishing or getting ruined from steam from the shower?!
very pretty, and a wonderful idea!

I love the green knobs! Such a great idea!
I do a similar thing with my necklaces, but I use simple push-pins. Your green knobs look far more sophisticated!
The necklace knobs are a great touch… And thanks for the info on the wall decals, living in an apartment rental, I def don’t want to make any long-term investments.
Wow this is brilliant
Definite must for my new apartment decor!
love the adorable necklace organizer. totally stealing that idea.
xo
I love the green knobs for necklaces, I did something similar a while back with fun push pins i found, it really helps to remind me of the necklaces I have, otherwise, out of sight out of mind.
i like the knobs as necklace holders ideas and am definitely going to check out blik!

ha! I love the pic of Luna’s cat paw holding it in position. Did you name her after Sailor Moon’s cat? Too cute.
I love a good before and after!! Great idea using the knobs as a way to keep your necklaces organized! Check out this before and after: http://vagabondblondes.blogspot.com/2010/04/home-decor-before-and-after.html
the glass knobs are gorgeous, love that idea!

The glass knobs are a fabulous idea!! I need to figure out a way to do that in my closet.
Wow! Pretty necklaces and the green glass knobs looks refreshing to look at.
Really pretty, I love the glass knobs.
http://heartoffashion-k.blogspot.com/
The Blick decals look great in there, but I especially love the knobs as a necklace storage solution. So clever! I just hope you put them far enough out of Luna’s reach that she doesn’t steal them.
Wow, my bathroom is so similar! I bought my wall decals at Cost Plus World Market, but they’re very similar. I love the pretty glass knobs from Anthropologie. I went with a much cheaper necklace solution though. I used 3m mini-hooks with silver ribbon bows on them. I just love the look of using jewelry as a decoration, plus I wear them a lot more now that they’re on display.
The bathroom looks great. I never know the best way to hang my necklaces…but I really love this idea. Plus it adds a nice splash of color. But I agree with Rachel, I hope Luna doesn’t steal them
we used to have the same problem (the kitty litter smell) in our guest bathroom and it would take over the whole house! i splurged on the litter robot and now you cannot even tell we have 3 cats in a 1500 square foot house! no kitty litter smell! you should check it out! the knobs are awesome for necklaces! <3 that idea!
i love the idea of the knobs on the wall how pretty! the stickers are also super cute. I put a similar post up about tatoos on the walls in my blog check it out!
http://www.letterstobetsy.com
Love, Love, Love wall decals!!! They make such a difference without spending too much or making such a huge commitment! Looks FAB!!!
I used to work at Anthro and I would always wonder what people did with the LOADS of knobs they would buy (besides put them on shelving of course). Your necklace idea is adorable and a great idea!
PS. The one commenter who asked why you don’t just share the bathroom with your boyfriend made me laugh…if she could only hear the fights I get in with my boyfriend about my makeup being everywhere or him leaving the toilet seat up!
I really like what you have done with the bathroom, the whole project turned out well. I especially like how you had Luna help you with the decorating!
I love the idea of getting pretty door knobs from anthropologie to display your necklaces!
Wow! That cat has great design sense.
I love the doorknobs for your necklaces!
Soooo cute! I luV it ~ and those green knobs are so so pretty! great decorating ideas! p.s. Ur necklaces are fabulous! Xx
great job! I hope Luna likes it, too =)

loveee the wall decals!!
I love those decals. Also the way to hold your necklaces. I’m impressed and might do the same thing for my scarves!
The Knob Idea is so awesome! I use tacts right now. SO boring! How do you get the knobs to stay in the wall like that? I would love to know
heystephj@gmail.com Thanks so much, I enjoy your awesome blog.
I love the knobs!! I have so many long necklaces that always need a place to hang!
This looks great! I also went with decals in my last apartment because of the temporary nature of my time there, they are lovely and for the most part come off perfectly well, but be warned, they might strip off paint! A few of mine did.
Also? I love how those doorknobs look. I’ve been eying them on anthropologie for ages and am glad to see they look as good in use as I thought they would.
Inspired!
Back when I had an apartment which I shared with my cat, I had an ornate litterbox cover. It was custom-made and essentially looked like a little circus tent. You just need someone to weld a frame and then buy some fabric to create a slipcover. Mine came complete with tassels to hold back the entry. Enchanté, darling.
http://ruminationavenue.wordpress.com
Yes– love it! How did you get them to stay in the wall though? Let us know!!
Love the necklace organization. Jewelry can be such a difficult thing to organize! I believe that since earrings, necklaces and bracelets are so beautiful, why not display them like you did? I’ve actually replaced frame backings with screen and dangle my earrings that way. This allows me to hang the frame in the living room! Jewelry as art

Its really nice , you have a good taste its so much better then its was great job
So funny! I love that elephant necklace! I saw one at a flea market and randomly thought, “I bet Emily would love this!”.
Look beautiful!
If I had my own bathroom I’d make it as girlie as possible, even if my “tough guy” cat, Angus would share it with me. I love this. The knobs are amazing. I use a coat rack to organize my necklaces but I love this idea even more! Well done girl! I bet Luna loves it.
Great!!
the glass knobs are beautiful! great idea. how did you install them into the wall though? i have my necklaces hanging on a really pertty cork board (framed) and hanging from pearl pins!
Love this idea.
Looks great! Those green knobs are super cool!
Luna is very cute, picking a spot over the loo! Love blik. They are awesome. Excellent job!!!
Always let the cat have its way
Love the necklace display by the way, and the pretty flowers!
I have a black and white cat named Luna too
Such cuties.
I absolutely LOVE the knobs idea.
Oh, love the glass knobs! So stealing the idea
Oh and did you by any chance name Luna after the Sailor Moon cat? She’s black after all…
Great idea
you did it amazing!

Love, love, LOVE the knob idea!
LOVE LOVE LOVE knob idea for your necklaces – super chic!!

I have the same question as a few people above me – love the knob look, been trying something similar myself. I rent though as well and don’t want to make holes in the wall the size that those knobs seem to require – what’s your trick?!?
love the bliks, I’ve been eyeing a few patterns to add to my living room

Super love this idea!

This is great! I LOVE the little knobs
Just Better Together
awesome knob idea !
how did you stick them on the wall?
Love the knobs…I have a Luna too but she is a baby, not a cat! Super creative
Great idea. I need to do something like this because my tangled web is getting out of control.
really chic and glam!
omg, great idea, love the new necklace holder!
Awwwwwwww Luna. Sooo cute and so helpful.
ooooh i love this idea. i have been searching for a way to organize my jewelry- thanks!
does Luna not mess with your necklaces? hard to believe
<333
The anthropologie knobs were a stroke of genius!
I loveeee the knobs as necklace hangers idea! I’m going to have to implement this into my new apartment, come August!
Can’t believe you’re allowed to do all that with a rental. In Australia we can’t even put a hook on the wall, let alone paint, wall paper etc.
WOW!
“knobbing” the necklaces. brilliant and beautiful!
What a beautiful bathroom! I like the idea of separate bathrooms…. one girly and one masculine!
Do you still keep Luna’s litter box in your bathroom? Do you have chic way on containing it? I keep my cats litter pan in the bathroom but her litter gets every where?!
This is such a good idea for necklaces!
very cute love everything about this!!
Wow, I really like the idea of hanging necklaces on door knobs, and I bet it would be pretty easy to just find a random assortment of knobs at a thrift store. Very inspiring.
this is were i keep all my necklaces..
