Before and After: Bedroom

April 1st, 2010

Want to know what I’ve been up to this past week?

I used to conveniently keep the door to our bedroom closed whenever we had company since it was the one room in our place that was sufficiently ugly.  Besides the bedside tables that we redid (here), we hadn’t gotten around to painting, getting new window coverings and I had been wanting a bench at the foot of the bed for years.  This past week, I decided it was time to make some changes and though we’re not completely done, it already feels infinitely more cozy and the dark wall creates a dangerous cave-like atmosphere in the morning.

{I decided on Benjamin Moore’s “Smoke Gray” on the bottom right}

{Borders were cleaned, cracks were sealed and corners were taped}

{I hung curtains so that they were right up against the ceiling}

{I secured a thick ribbon to the edges of the curtains to add some dimension.}

{I bought a vintage bench at the flea market and reupholstered it with some leftover fabric from the chairs I redid here}

    Hi! love the room, i was wondering though where you purchased your black and white striped rug? i have been looking everywhere for one! thanks

  • Mimo

    Hi!
    Got to say, you’re adorable! Your blog is a definite cheer-up and you seem like a wonderful girl. And it’s so great that you’re not just about the clothes and make-ups and all that but you also have great recipes and… well, you know what you have here.

    I was wondering, though… Did you have a pic of your bedroom or some other room where you had this great black and white painting of clock’s pointers? It looked like they were spinning really fast … Do you have that kind of a painting or am I just imagining?

    P.S. In case I didn’t make it clear enough, you and your blog are amazing!

    Love your bedroom make over! I know the feeling of having a blah looking room, it tends to be the last room to re-do because no one else sees it.
    I’m trying to do mine a little bit at a time!
    I’m new to blogging but I’ve been following yours for a while, its definitely inspiring!

    Where did you get the fabric on the bench? It is the exact fabric of my old India Ink duvet cover from Anthropologie, which I want in a queen size but it’s sold out everywhere. If I could find that fabric, maybe I could make a new one…. :)

    it’s soo cute and cozy! And everything a bedroom should be!

    I like the clean look of your room but I’m a sucker for pillows, if you were to add some would they be neutral or a splash of color?

    its looks great but need some curtain and cushion decor by tassels and tiebacks.

  • alice

    that is nice but i think it would be extra super nice with a little bit of a really vibrant color like schiaperelli pink or coral or yellow.

    Hi! I was browsing your blog and saw this post. My fiance and I moved into our apartment recently so I’ve been trying to find some decor ideas. Do you have any tips for adding color to the bedroom without painting (white walls). I’m finding it difficult, without making it look like a childs room.
