Beauty Secrets
When you spend an extended amount of time with a group of girls, you’re guaranteed two things: a lot of gossip and the sharing of valuable beauty secrets. This past weekend I was introduced to several new products, all of which have since been purchased and incorporated into my own make-up bag. As fun as it is to discover new products, it’s just as enjoyable to share my favorites with others. Here are a few of the things I rely on daily.
Maybelline Lipstick – Coral Crush. One of the most universally flattering lipsticks I’ve ever seen. It adds such a fun pop of color and I always feel instantly put together with one easy swipe.
Almay Eye Make-up Remover Pads (oil free). These little pads have saved me from many a night where I desperately wanted to crawl into bed with all of my eye make-up on. They remove everything with one pad and don’t leave your eyes dry and irritated.
Maybelline Define-A-Lash Mascara. I’ve splurged on a lot of different mascaras in the past, but none separate my lashes and still make them look long and dark quite like this one. I’m probably on my 7th consecutive tube.
Tarte Cheek Stain – Dollface. I’m a total sucker for a great cheek stain and Dollface gives you the most perfect, fresh-faced glow. I love the fat stick too that makes it easy to apply and looks just as good on your lips as it does on your cheeks.
Moroccan Oil. My hairdresser introduced me to this miracle serum and I’m not being dramatic when I say that I’m obsessed. It smooths my hair instantly and the scent makes you feel like you’re on some tropical island.
Origins – Modern Friction. A good exfoliator makes such a big difference and this one is consistently great. The granules aren’t too big or too small and always leave my skin feeling smooth and not greasy.
Aveeno – Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer. This lotion has a clean, subtle scent and leaves my skin seriously moisturized.
L’Oreal Linear Intense Felt Tip Eyeliner – Carbon. Most people are intimidated by liquid liner, but this one makes it so simple. The felt tip is key and it glides on seamlessly every time.
Stila Lip Glaze – Watermelon. This gloss has such a pretty pigment with a nice smell and a fun click applicator. I love that it’s in a tube and doesn’t require me dunking my finger in a pot of gloss.
Aquaphor. This is an amazing does-everything salve. Whether you have dry elbows or need a little extra moisture on your lips, I carry a small tube of this everywhere I go.
Guerlain Terrecotta Bronzing Powder. The different shades in this compact give you a nice glow that looks like you just came in from a day at the beach.
Kiehl’s Creme de Corps. This is a seriously heavy duty lotion that can reverse the damage of winter in a few applications.

Too bad that almost none of these are available in Europe!
Have a Fabulous weekend!!!!

I use the Almay Eye Remover pads and L’Oreal liner as well. Great products! The Almay + a Neutrogena makeup remover wipe is a great combination when you don’t feel like fully washing your face some nights.
I’ve been wanting to try the Moroccan oil! Just not sure where I can get it. Also– speaking of coral lipsticks, I just purchased Strawberry Suede by Revlon and looove it! Thanks to you.
Xoxo http://sweatshirtdressshirt.blogspot.com
The lipstick sounds really nice! I’ll be sure to check that one out
Thanks for the post

Moroccan Oil aka LIQUID GOLD – that stuff is incredible.
(I never comment because there are always a bajillion comments by the time I read your posts, but I got here quick this time! haha)
I could bathe in moroccanoil! It’s divine.

that lipstick is GORGEOUS. lovely blog.. following now..

Ok definitely going to go look for some Moroccan Oil to try out! And I’ve always wanted to try the Tarte cheek stain but I don’t really know how to use it. Next two things on my list to buy!
-Jane @ Brunch at the Beach
I also love Maybelline mascara. Those other products look very worth trying out!
I have to try that lipstick! The Tarte cheek stain is the best! Have been using it for 4 years now and it never fails.
Ooooh! I love beauty product recommendations. Will have to try the tarte stain. Mainly for the name! And Kiehl’s is the best!
Thanks for sharing! I have some of these products myself!
Great post!

I absolutely adore all of these products! I use that eyeliner for most of the tutorials on my blog and it always creates a perfect line!
Aquaphor and Moroccan Oil- two of my absolute faves! My hair is seriously color treated and the Moroccan makes if feel like soft baby hair every day. LOVE.
Thanks for the recs! I’ve always wondered about the Tarte cheek stain and now will definitely try it!
I am obsessed with beauty products and love when people recommend products that are already working for them. I have half of these and am going to pick up a few more bases on your recommendations!!
Thanks !
Sadie at heyMamas
Oh great post! You always look so pretty in your pictures!
Also, do you have a favorites for sunless tanning? Or anyone out there for that matter lol?
http://jammer10am.blogspot.com/
I so love both the Moroccan Oil and the Aquafor too!
Thank you thank you thank you…. this will really help my makeup regime!
im an aquaphor fanatic. i have a huge tub of that stuff, i use it under my eyes as well. really works miracles. i love that you gave me some inexpensive options for mascara and eyeliner. I always wondered. I wont put any cheap bronzer on, because you can tell a difference, but mascara and eyeliner is totally replaceable.

Yes, Morrocan Oil is the best.
Thanks for sharing. I love this post!!!
I use some form of Kiehl’s every day – can’t go without it! And love moroccan oil, my old hair dresser used it all the time.
http://bemerrykate.blogspot.com
Hmmm, I love Kiehls. I may have to go find that lotion.
I have heard nothing but good things about that Maybelline mascara. I’d never have thunk it!
Thank you SO much for sharing all of these! I love, love, LOVE the {L’Oreal Linear Intense Felt Tip Eyeliner – Carbon}. It’s a staple I have in my make-up bag always!
i just did a post on my fav cosmetics, will have to try out some of yours! thanks for sharing
Oh boy, looks like I need to make a small trip and pick up a few of these myself. I love discovering new beauty products. Xx
great products! I’ll try the Moroccan oil..my hair seriously needs some help!
I use Aquaphor on Devon all the time and now on my own eternally chapped lips! I have the most sensitive skin ever, so even the Aveeno doesn’t work for me. I basically wash my face with hot water now… the only thing that doesn’t make me break out… isn’t that crazy?! Oh, and thank you for the eye makeup remover tip. I ran out a while back and was just thinking that I need to buy some this weekend bc I’ll be wearing mascara to my friend’s wedding and don’t want to look like Rocky Raccoon in the a.m.! xo
I love the Khiel’s lotion. I named it on my blog as my top non-frugal body lotion!
Moroccan Oil is not great for everyone. I had a skin reaction to it and had to stop using it.
Total Aquaphor freak. Use it under my eyes every night before bed—also great as an eyebrow tamer on particularly unkempt days. P.S. LADIES: My dermatologist said all the plastic surgeons’ wives swear by it for undereyes!
I love that mascara- I get the volume one. I need to just buy Moroccan oil…my friend and my hairdresser swear by it!
Sugar is a great, cheap exfoliator. Just mix it with a little face wash and water. Also, I recently bought Aquaphor, and it really works amazingly!
I love Aquaphor! It really is great for everything.
Awesome, thanks for your list! I’m always overwhelmed by these recommendations in mags (there are way too many to sort through).
I use Tarte cheek stain in Tipsy, and it’s quite possibly the best beauty product I’ve ever owned!
You would think oil would be the last thing we’d want to douse our locks with but I discovered smoothing serum/oil about a year ago and agree – it’s sort of magic. Redken’s Glass is what I’ve been loving but I can’t wait to try the Moroccan oil.
For all the money I spend on beauty products and makeup (my bathroom is my own personal apothecary and my husband begs me to stop buying new things!) I have to say that two of my favorite products are the Aveeno moisturizer you’ve listed and Aquafor. I highly recommend the Aveeno body lotion too! My mom buys it in bulk for us at Costco.
My sister uses Aquafor for her daughter and my little girl will definitely get it too. If it’s good enough for a baby’s tush it’s good enough for me! I smear it on myself too. I use the jelly on my hands and feet in winter and it has changed my life!
What does the Moroccan Oil do exactly?
I have been trying to find a good eye makeup remover and a nice mascara (min has been flacking). I will have to try these, they sounds like they work well. I am always nervous to wear lipstick. I have always been a chapstick girl, but this lip color might just change me
Thanks for the beauty tips.
To answer the sunless tanner question, I really like jergen’s three times as fast tanner. I bought a couple weeks ago and usually apply it every morning out of the shower. It never streaks and everyone keeps asking me if I’ve been out in the sun!
I use most of these too! Why pay more right? I love that mascara as well. I have tried so many different ones and this brand is always my fallback. I also love origins scrubs. I have modern friction and also use the charcoal mask. It is a weird black color but I use it as a spot treatment and clears everything up! I love that stuff! I am contantly up in the winter my elbows and legs get so dry! I have tried so many different things but never aquafor. I am using a vaseline brand right now and it is working good. My mom bought me a giant bottle for xmas last year! Great post I love sharing beauty secrets and ideas.

I’m actually a huuuge Kiehl’s addict! I stock up like crazy everytime I’m back in California or just North America in general since it is unbelievably expensive in Europe. I am a big fan of the lipgloss collection…lovely colors, great flavor and just like lipbalm for your lips!

Moroccan Oil is one of my ultimate beauty must-haves. I’m completely obsessed with it too. It smells like a tropical getaway and makes me beautiful even when I’m wearing sweats and no makeup. Love it. It keeps hair looking healthy and hydrated, and manages to tame frizz. =)
I love the Tarte cheek stain as well and the Stila lip gloss. I agree its so nice that its not messy like others. I will have to look more into the Moroccan Oil. Sounds like my hair could benefit from this! Thanks for the tips and have a great weekend!
I’m a beautyholic and love reading other people’s “musts” – I would say try Dior Show mascara – it’s like fake lashes in the tube! Face wash: Cetaphil – nothing better. Totally agree with you on the Stella Lip Gloss (I think I have every color) – the other thing to try is Lip Smackers in Dr. Pepper – cheap and great color! Plus who doesn’t love whipping out a lip smackers?!?! Anyways: love your blog. Keep it up!
Love the picks Emily! Also agree with everyone on the Aquaphor and Aveeno. Great – even on my excema skin! Going to have to check out that mascara!
xx Vivian @ http://diamondsandtulle.blogspot.com
totally agree with U for the marrocan oil, stilla lipgloss and guerlain terracotta!!
Love the stila lipgloss, it’s pretty much perfect.

I use so many of these too! Moroccan Oil is the shit! I now was to try liquid eyeliner!
I did a post today about beauty items too
I am dying to try the Moroccan Oil!
http://glamlatte.blogspot.com
Thank’s for sharing your products!! I’m very curious about this miracolous oil but I think that I couldn’t find it in my country..does someone know other oil for hair?
Have a wonderful week end!!
I love the Almay remover pads and just bought the mascara this morning! I keep trying others but I keep going back to the Define-a-Lash! And I’ve used the Kiehls for years. I think I must try the coral lipstick and the Moroccan oil!
I love Moroccan oil…my hairdresser also introduced it to me about a year ago, and I haven’t looked back. I’m interested to try cheek stain – thanks for the suggestion.
To Giulia: you can buy it online.
http://www.tightsandbites.com
Well you’ve got me sold. I now want to go buy all these things!
I should really try the felt tip eye liner. I’ve used several liquids and it can be hit or miss on even coverage.
Thanks for all the tips!!!!
Oooo great list! I can’t live without my Laura Mercier under eye concealer and my Ojon dry shampoo, which smells incredible…
Question: How long does the Moroccan Oil last if you use it on a semi regular basis? Or do you not use it regularly?
Yup, I love Eucerin’s products. I have hyper sensitive and dry skin, so I use their original lotion for my face, and it is perfect! Heavy, but absorbs fast enough. Almay’s eyemake up remover pads kinda bug me, I feel like I am yanking out my eyelashes sometimes. I prefer Neutrogena’s Fresh Clean Eye Makeup remover Face Wash. One wash, all clean! The cheek stain looks great… on my list!
Oh, I swear by Keils, Aquaphor, and Morocco Oil. I use all three of those daily! I was just thinking about posting about Morocco Oil…It really is so fabulous!
i LOVE beauty posts… because it is not my expertise. Aveeno rocks though!!!
I love product reviews- thanks for sharing! I use the bronzer and it’s perfect. Sounds like I need to check out the moroccan oil.
Have a happy day!
http://www.hellopretty.net
super cute — have you tried dior greatlash? a friend swears by it but i’m not convinced. also, cetaphil cleanser is a rec i got from a dermatologist a long time ago, and i LOVE it.
I’ve heard fabulous things about the Moroccan Oil line! And I love all Aveeno products – great post!
Many of these are on my must-have list too! But I also love aerosol dry shampoo!
http://everydaytorunway.wordpress.com
i had been using almay eyemakeup pads since middle school but in recent months they added aloe, which im allergic too (ironic, i know) and i don’t even want to put on make up anymore because i haven’t found anything i like as much to take it off!
Great picks! xo
http://www.fashionsnag.com
Love the products….Happy weekend!
Thanks for the tips! I love the Almay makeup removing pads and the stila lip glaze, but I’ll have to try out some of the others.
First, let me say that I have become an avid reader of this blog in the past few weeks since I found it. I’m pretty obsessed, especially with the how tos! I’ve successfully done the smoky eye following your easy tutorial (which, previously, I could never do, it’d always look like I had a black eye when I tried).
Next, this post made my day, since I use most of those products! I was recently a runway model in a show in NY – the International Beauty Show – and they gave us models Moroccan hair oil, and yeah, I fell in love with that too! I would’ve never tried it if I hadn’t been given a sample, but it reminds me of the beach and makes my hair look great.
Thanks for the blog!
i seriously need to invest in those eye make up remover pads, because i constanly go to bed with ALL my eye makeup still on…(gross, I know). and i’m still on the search for the ideal mascara, right now i use mac, and its pretty good. but i have stubby lashes and i want legth and volume big time…maybe i’ll give maybelline a go
I’m excited to try the eye makeup removers. One of my worst habits is going to bed with my lashes still caked in mascara.
I use Tarte’s cheek stain in Perfect Whirled. I really want to try Dollface next. Kiehls lotion is the best. I recently purchased it and I love it. I’m always trying new bronzers as well. Right now I’m loving Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess. I haven’t tried this Moroccan hair oil yet. I have a Macadamia Oil that I use that is essentially the same and the smell is a bit lighter. I really love it.
i adore creme de corps.
That Stila LipGlaze is in such a fun color… Need it now! And that Guerlain bronzer is gorgeous.

I definitely believe that the next best thing to sharing a closet with girlfriends is sharing beauty secrets and products, so I absolutely loved this post! I cant wait to try out the Moroccan hair oil and the coral lipstick!
Thank you so much for sharing! I’m a big fan of Keihl’s Creme de Corps and I have that Tarte cheek stain in Blushing Bride. I love the cheek stain and it actually smells really good! Must try out that mascara. Thanks again!

aquaphor is like liquid gold. thanks so much for sharing your beauty secrets! i just added you to my “on the daily” blogroll! have a great weekend!
I’ve tried many of these in the past and love them and others are new to me… but I am IN LOVE with the Aveeno lotion! seriously, my skin is so dry, sensitive and all around temperamental, but it does the job. I used to use the ultra calming one with feverfew and just recently switched over to the positively radiant. both work great! I don’t know what I’d do without ‘em
Love Maybelline’s Define-A-Lash.
I have GOT to try some of these products and tips!! I love the way you described them too.

What a great list! Emily, do you mind telling me if the Moroccan Oil is conditioning for your hair? I’ve been wanting to get some for some time, but was hoping that it helps in long term conditioning. Thanks so much!
Aquaphor! I stock up on that!
Literally JUST posted on Moroccan Oil this week. Obsessed, and I love to pass the buck. Also am a firm believer in Guerlain bronzer, though lately I’ve been addicted to Lorac TANtalizer Baked Bronzer. I have a giant pot of Aquaphor next to my bed and at work. Planning on doing a post of all my secrets soon!
http://www.20somethingcupcakes.com/2010/03/moroccan-oil/
Aquaphor and Define a lash are staples in my purse as well. I’ve been searching for a perfect spring lipstick, and will have to try the coral you suggested!

moroccan oil is a must for me! And my 4 1/2 year old daughter who has amazing curly hair! She calls it “magic oil”

these are all great beauty products
L’oreal lineur intense is the best eyeliner ever! I love the look of liquid eyeliner, and this one makes it so easy. If I mess up (which is hard with this one), I just run a wet cotton swab along the top of the line to even it out. It works great!
You should check out Paula Begoun’s Beautypedia.com. She calls herself the “beauty cop,” and she goes out and rates different beauty products. Other than concealer and foundation, there’s rarely a good reason to buy expensive products– especially with mascaras (like you found), the drugstore brands are just as good or better!
I love the hair oil too! I have to use it on my dry locks all the time!
Oh–I found a really cute vintage cupcakes sign for you!

Oh that Moroccan Oil is amazing I love it. Going to invest in all off these beauty secrets
I love the Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer, it’s just perfect! What’s there not to love about Moroccan Oil?
Love love love Kiehl’s. It’s divine. And the Aveeno’s moisturizer works just as good as anything I have ever paid twice as much for.
Yes! Moroccan Oil saved my hair from this year’s particularly horrible nyc winter and the smell is an amazing musky scent that I now crave after every shower. LOVE. And I’ve been using Tarte’s cheek stain for years and love love love that it’s now paraben, sulfate, and phthalate free. I’ve been using Flush and it smells like yummy berries, such a nice addition to my morning routine;)
Love the post. Thanks for tips!!
love trying mascaras. drug stores brands are sometimes the best.
there are so many of them!
http://sarissweetlife.blogspot.com/
any faux tanning favourites?? i am always on the look out for tips.
I will be purchasing the lipstick immediately!
haha! i use the same lipstick, makeup remover and eyeliner! and what a coinsident that we have the same name as well! : )
LOVE this post – It’s like a treasure-chest of beauty wonders!
(And I think I may have to hunt down some of that Coral lipstick, it looks gorgeous!)

i’m definitely ‘heart-ing’ this post on bloglovin so i can refer back to it time and time again when i need a beauty pick-me-up!
stila lip glaze is the best!!!
Coral Crush is my go to lip color!
i love that liquid liner, works great!

A favorite product of mine is Bigelow Triple Rose Water Tonic spray. I use a light mist after I wash my face, morning and night. My skin feels hydrated and it has a wonderful, light scent. I buy it online at Bath and Body Works; for some reason they no longer carry it in the stores. I can’t be without it !
I love aquaphor. It really is the best cure all
XO, http://thefrugalistadiaries.blogspot.com/
I have been thinking about trying the Morrocan oil but since I have fairly fine hair, I’m worried it’ll weigh it down and look greasy? As for cheek stain, I have been obsessed with Benetint in both Rose and Poppy. For a pretty faux tan, I’d recommend Tan Towels. You can buy them at Ulta and they are super convenient and less stinky than most brands. Coral Crush looks like a fun spring color I will be picking up soon.
Great recommendations Emily! Oh and by the way, your blog is amazing. I look forward to reading your posts every day.

Love, love, LOVE some of these products…especially the Tarte cheekstain, which I’m about to try for myself. Great post xx
I am always on the lookout for an amazing mascara – I will definitely be trying Maybelline’s Define-A-Lash out ASAP!!
the makeup removers are the best but make sure to be careful and buy the oil FREE ones! almay makes another one in similar packaging which leaves you feeling greasy.
and try aveda foot cream!! theeeee best in my opinion!
Okay, I have been reading about/seeing that Moroccan Oil everywhere lately- I must try it! I’ve always wanted to try that cheek stain as well…2 things to add to my next Sephora trip!
Thanks for all the great tips, I’m of to try them out!
um… is your hair dresser by any chance Dina? My hair dresser, Dina, just introduced Moroccan Oil to me, and I love it!

Which color cheek stain are you using? The pinkish?
Thanks for the tips, picked up the eye make-up remover pads while traveling this weekend and they were a life saver!
Always love sneaking a peek in your make up bag! We always have a little bit of overlap and quite a few differences. I’ll have to check some of these out.
Just sent you an email, but wanted to make sure you knew that perhaps because of you, Coral Crush is sold out all over Long Beach! Thanks, now I’m dreaming of it and can’t get my hands on it!
Great post
I see two of my absolute beauty staples up there, Guerlain bronzing powder and the Moroccan Oil. My hair can’t live without it. I will have to give that eyeliner a try, I always have problems with the liquid type. I end up looking like a “streetwalker”.
I absolutely LOVE the cheek stain by Tarte! I have the color “blushing bride.” But you say that it looks just as good on your lips as your cheeks. I totally tried it on my lips, and it tasted like chemicals– not good ones. Toxic ones.
im definitely adding a couple of these to my shopping list. the one thing i dont get is the tarte cheek stain, i have a hard time blending it without tugging on my skin. what am i doing wrong? i know everyone seems to love it!
I keep hearing about Moroccan oil! Everywhere.
Bought the coral crush! Love it!
Finally did my list! A girl’s gotta share her secrets
Hope you enjoy {Makeup coming soon}
