Baked French Toast

July 31st, 2012

French toast feels like home. It reminds me of foggy mornings, thick blankets, and entire days spent by a fire. It brings with it such nostalgia – not from childhood, per se, but when I was back home from college,  in between semesters. I remember feeling so grown-up and independent while I was away, but when sitting on the stools at the kitchen counter, I loved that my parents still made me french toast for breakfast. This recipe is a variation on the original with a crumbly top that adds a wonderful texture and really elevates the dish to another level. I put mine in ramekins for individual servings and look forward to making it for my parents the next time they’re in town.

Everything you do is just simply amazing! how is that possible?!
I gave up on my blog 2 weeks after having starting it, because I just don’t know what do I have more than any other blog, and find everything I write senseless and… random! And even though you are the 3000th blog I’m daily reading, I really think you’ve got way more than all the blogs I’ve seen so far.

    Cheers x

I will definitely try this recipe, untill now I used to make french toast by cutting half of the bread slice and dipping it into the egg mixture and just grill them on top of the griddle.

  • Ruby

Oh this is adorable and it’s giving me the sudden urge to eat something sweet, sticky and drenched in syrup… french toast, maybe?! Love xxxx

Ok this is a problem! These look amazing and now have to make them. However, my thighs will suffer the consequences of my taste buds actions.

Also you need your own show on foodnetwork!

This recipe looks great, but I would like to see the pictures of the final product in greater detail. I think you overuse the large aperture settings on your camera. I would be nice to have some pictures that are less blurry. It’s like only one tiny crumb of that french toast is in focus!

    Yummy yummy!

All of your food always looks so amazingly delicious Emily!
No matter how much time and effort I put in when working in the kitchen, the things I make just don’t have that gorgeous “look” to them.

That French toast looks absolutely divine…
I didn’t grow up eating French toast but now that I’m older and have had plenty of opportunities eating it, I see it as a delicious and sweet comfort food.
French toast seems like the perfect breakfast to start a rainy winter day. Follow that with snuggling in thick sweaters and some cozy reading and you’re set for life! :)

I may need to try this recipe out.
Too bad my body won’t appreciate it as much as my taste buds do! :)
