Cupcakes and Cashmere

A Sneak Peek – Cupcakes and Cashmere: The Book

June 7th, 2012

After a year of writing, photographing, recipe testing and tasting, styling, and planning, a book emerged…and the first advances arrived two nights ago. It was one of the more exhilarating (and terrifying) moments coming home to find the package waiting at my doorstep – smelling the new pages, feeling its weight. I’m so proud of how it all came together and thought I’d share a few snippets from each of the different sections (style, beauty, at home, and food & entertaining) until it’s officially available on August 1st. Thank you for all of your support and for those of you who have already pre-ordered the book (here). x

I’m also going to be appearing on the 9:30am hour of The Today Show next Wednesday, June 13th. This is my first time on national TV and I’m seriously nervous, but can’t wait!

Congrats on the book! I am an author and it was the most exciting thing in the world when my first book arrived at my door! And then getting the Korean translation was amazing too! Enjoy the ride.

Cute book! I love reading about your fashion stuff. Just a heads up though- I may try and stay away from things out of your realm of expertise, for example- wine experts will actually recommend twisting the bottle to open sparkling wine (“champagne” means its from the Champagne region of France so I think you actually meant sparkling wine in your book), instead of the cork. And you NEVER touch the glass when pouring wine- nice wine glasses can be incredibly thin and heavy bottles like sparkling wine bottles can easily break!!!! So just a heads up.

I have to agree with other posters who pointed out that there’s nothing new here. I was disappointed. And for those who say, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all,” I want to say this: Bloggers make a living from people clicking. Readers are reasonably within their rights of free speech to say something less than fawning. I get quite a giggle from blogs who block responses that aren’t gushing love letters. How else will a blogger learn what people want if they only get “you’re a goddess and here’s my blog at http://www.i‘mjustpostingherefor theeyeballs.com, please visit.”

This is probably a must-buy book! The contents are amazing, along with very helpful tips for weddings and stuff. Definitely going to grab a copy.

  • Alisa

Congratulations, Emily, you must be very excited.

Can I say, that I almost preordered it and, seeing it now, I’m glad I didn’t. Is it perhaps for teens to early twenty year olds? As someone who is also in my late twenties, I find these example pages frighteningly elementary. Who doesn’t know how to open a bottle of champagne or create a playlist?! I hope that you just chose poor examples for this post and the rest is a bit more indicative of your own, personal skills or ideas. No disrespect & best of luck, either way.

At the risk of sounding like a total moo… although suppose it’s a nice change from all “promoting their own blog” sycophants!

I fail to see what is “inspirational” about compiling tips on how to put on lipstick and a few bracelets something which requires as much concentration as breathing does…

Your pictures are very pretty and i like looking at them but forgive me for thinking therehave

  • cc

more worthy candidates to acquire publishing deals!

And as far for a section on popping a cork of champers (that actually made me laugh) at least get it right dear!

  • cc

Ahh, just looking at some of the (few and far between) real comments here and it would seem i am not alone…

  • Romy

Can’t believe that somebody can be successful with such a trivial things… it’s funny..

  • Paula

I have only stumbled on this blog today so I am not a follower, nor do I have a blog to advertise. I’m really quite shocked though that anybody could have a single negative thing to say about somebody else’s success (unless they were sad, bitter or jealous which of course they are not!?) Books and blogs are damn hard work I’m sure and though you may find it funny that this book has been published, I find it worrying that you have the time on your hands to make such patronising remarks, how about making a positive contribution somewhere else instead?…’dear’
    Huge congratulations Emily! X
