When I think of white shoes, they don’t necessarily conjure up stylish images in my head: I’m reminded of the blindingly bright Converse kicks I had as a kid, the shoes my dad matched to his wedding tux (true story), and the bad platform flip flops I wore in college. But the new strappy sandals available feel chic and understated. These Alexander Wang snake-embossed sandals are a great combination of delicate meets edgy, but Zara’s option (at a fraction of the cost) would look just as stunning, when paired with a chiffon dress and a hint of a tan.

A few months back, I shared a sneak peek of our wedding video that Brian sent over. I thought it was perfect – it captured the day so beautifully and left me wanting more. Well, more came in the form of our final video we received this past week. Since it’s Mother’s Day (and I’ve managed to not share it with my mom up until right now), it would be fun to post. We agonized about picking the song for months, but as soon as we decided on Paul Simon’s “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes,” we knew we’d found it. I’d be floored if I’m ever able to watch it without tearing up. Happy Mother’s Day! x

{So happy that my parents came down to visit last week}
I’m not sure if it’s just this new decade I recently entered or what, but this week just worked. Each day felt fulfilling – busy, but productive with enough room for leisurely lunches and wine with dinner. And while I already felt like our house was rather full, we recently rescued a homeless young cat that had taken up residence under our house. It’s been a bit stressful getting everyone acclimated (while also ensuring she’s healthy), but she’s adapted wonderfully and I’m thrilled that we were able to give her a loving home. Have a great weekend!

{Seriously gorgeous flowers from a friend}

{I’m in love with my red rose gel manicure}

{Cali, poised on a lucite table for optimal photo opportunities}

{Finally ordered our wedding album – so impressed with Artifact Uprising}

At some point in college, karaoke became a regular social outing with friends, which is around the same time I became intensely self conscious about my voice. I have a good ear, but that just means that when I hit the wrong note, I’m acutely aware of it. My first time, I chose a song I knew, but really only at parts. Then, a few seconds in (Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer”), I realized that I wasn’t going to come close to hitting the high notes. The rest of the experience was a panicked blur, but it involved calling all of my friends to help and avoiding the microphone at the chorus.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s not like I’m now some sort of a karaoke aficionado, but I’ve learned a couple of things over the years. Pick a song you know, like really know and something that’s fun and upbeat, one in which you’ll sound halfway decent belting out. It’s also made me realize that being slightly prepared will make the whole experience much more enjoyable, so I have a go-to song that I always choose when I do karaoke. Mine is Tom Petty’s “American Girl.” Everyone knows it (a bonus since the crowd will sing along and potentially drown me out), and Tom and I both stick to a similar range. It’s a win-win.
I’d love to know: do you have a go-to song when you sing karaoke or just wing it on stage?
