I’m not much of a football fan, but I can definitely get behind Super Bowl snacks and of course, the Beyonce halftime show. For those of you going to a party or just looking to eat some good food, here are some of my favorite snacks that would be perfect for this Sunday. Summertime to me means baseball games (fact: I’m a diehard Oakland A’s fan and cringe at all of the Giants bandwagoners that emerged after their World Series victory two years ago). I grew up going to games with my dad, which also meant peanuts, cotton candy and, of course, hot dogs. Hot dogs are one of my favorite indulgences, only made better when baked inside a homemade pretzel roll. I followed Joy’s recipe and they were insanely irresistible – three of us polished off the entire batch in one sitting.

I think homemade desserts almost always trump those bought at a store (unless, of course, baking is seriously not your calling). Sometimes it’s just hard to find the time to make something special that looks as good as it tastes. Chocolate-dipped pretzels have always been one of my favorite treats and because this week has turned out to be unexpectedly hectic, I decided to make something that didn’t even require an oven. I simply melted chocolate (white and milk), dipped in some pretzel rods and decorated them with some Memorial Day-inspired sprinkles.
*Bonus: when stacked in a tall glass or a hurricane vase, it makes for a pretty (and edible!) centerpiece.

When it comes to dessert, I’m really not picky. Sure, I have my favorites (they’re starred on this page), but it’s rare that I’ll ever turn down an opportunity to have something sweet. Doughnuts have never been a top contender among cookies and cupcakes, but on the rare occasion that I’m craving one with a cup of coffee, there’s nothing better. Ever since I mastered the art of frying (with these and these), I’ve been wanting to try my hand at classic doughnuts with a chocolate glaze. I’ll admit that they took an entire afternoon, but even with the threat of scalding oil, annoyingly sticky dough and the fact that my apartment still smells of grease, they were truly fantastic.
