spring cookies

Working from home has its benefits. There’s no commute, I never have to pack a lunch (a true bonus for someone who’s a constant snacker) and my cats are always nearby. But it can also be tough to separate my work from my life, since I never truly leave the office. I used to alternate where I’d work – occasionally at my desk, sprawled out across the dining room table, and even standing while baking in the kitchen. But over the past couple of weeks, I’ve realized the importance of actually using a designated area that’s just for work. I changed out the lights (fluorescents make even the prettiest rooms instantly horrifying), added a rug to soften the space, and brought a speaker in to play music. A little change – plus some pretty pencils and a desk calendar – really makes a world of a difference with my productivity and happiness. Have a great weekend.

A Spin on Salad

March 28th, 2013

I go to the Farmers’ Market every Sunday and come back with bags full of fresh produce. And even though there’s abundant inspiration in each aisle, I find myself picking up the same salad ingredients each week: lettuce, avocados, and tomatoes (even though they’re not entirely ripe just yet). My salads have become predictable and boring, so I decided to spice things up a bit. Last week I came home with radishes and blood oranges, which I sliced thin and drizzled with a lemon vinaigrette. Since I figured other people might fall victim to the same ho-hum salad routine, here’s a little visual inspiration to change things up.

I’d love to know – what’s in your favorite salad?

Back to Black

Free People Sunglasses (similar here), H&M Top, J.Crew Necklace, Hudson Jeans, Prada Purse, Celine Pumps

When I first decided I needed a leather peplum top in my life (it was a “dramatic” moment), I was prepared to make an investment. I knew it would be one of those pieces I’d constantly reach for and would add a bit of an edge to my otherwise feminine wardrobe. I’m still shocked that I was able to track a great one down at H&M, but it’s proven to be just as versatile as I’d hoped. I simply need to be wary of how I often I throw it on, since the zipper is starting to show how well loved it is.
