French toast feels like home. It reminds me of foggy mornings, thick blankets, and entire days spent by a fire. It brings with it such nostalgia – not from childhood, per se, but when I was back home from college, in between semesters. I remember feeling so grown-up and independent while I was away, but when sitting on the stools at the kitchen counter, I loved that my parents still made me french toast for breakfast. This recipe is a variation on the original with a crumbly top that adds a wonderful texture and really elevates the dish to another level. I put mine in ramekins for individual servings and look forward to making it for my parents the next time they’re in town.

J.Crew Shirt, Vintage Necklace, Anthropologie Skirt, Chanel Heels, Zara Clutch
The busier the outfit, the simpler I like to keep everything else – with minimal make-up, a relaxed bun, and delicate jewelry. I essentially live in striped shirts, and usually end up wearing them with jeans or anything in a solid color, but every once in a while it’s a nice change of pace when paired with a dramatic pattern.

{Most refreshing dessert ever – homemade grapefruit and campari granita}
This week has been pretty amazing. I found out from my editor that my book is a National best-seller (and even made it to the top 10 in Publishers Weekly). I’m overwhelmed by the response and am so appreciative of all of your support. This weekend should be just as promising – we’re having people over tonight for the opening ceremony of the Olympics (ideal for take-out and champagne) and a good friend is visiting from out of town. We’ll be doing a marathon day of shopping (she’s a new mom) and I can’t wait to help her rebuild her wardrobe. Have a great weekend!

{Favorite new item: lilac-colored denim}

{Notebooks made from vintage Diane von Furstenberg patterns}

{Strangest item in my bathroom: a mold of my teeth that I painted gold}

{My signature scent – people actually stop me on the street to ask what I’m wearing}

Ray-Ban Aviators, Elizabeth and James Blouse c/o, Anthropologie Necklace, Club Monaco Belt, Gap Jeans (similar here), Nixon Watch, Coach Bag, Costume National Heels
I haven’t worn a belt around my hips since college, when I’d wear them with prairie skirts, turquoise jewelry, and clunky platforms. Instead, I’ve bought belts to wrap around the smallest part of my waist, as a way to make my less-than-lengthy legs appear longer. I saw this belt on display a couple of weeks back and loved the tomboy-inspired look of a low-slung striped belt with broken in jeans so much that I decided to embrace the look, this time without the prairie skirts.
